Engine locked up from crankshaft bearing failure, mega fuse blown My wife and I were driving 70mph on a highway when I lost the throttle and other power. I pulled over to the side the best I could but barely over the white line. It was a dangerous situation for us & tow trucks, the engine was locked up & the flat bed truck couldn't tow vehicle. The 2nd truck was a reaper style truck which was dangerous to setup on the side of highway. The dealership diagnosed and replaced engine to their guidelines. I requested the oil cooling lines & housing be replaced as well to avoid metal debris to enter new engine to avoid recurring engine failure. At first both requests were denied, then another dealer represntive said the oil lines would be replaced but the housing would not be. I even offered to pay for that replacement which was denied. I invested a lot into the vehicle, I was assured the original recall and engine oil change would be sufficient. I also purchased to dealer premium care package to really take care of my vehicle investment.Engine failure was around 29,000 miles. The engine failure happened on a Sunday morning, I didn't receive any loaner car or rental car until Thursday affecting my work transportation. Once the dealer rented me a car, I asked if I needed anything to pick up the car, dealer rep said no. Once at rental car place, I needed a credit card and ID, I was charged $250 for the time I had the rental car. The rental car was not close or comparable to my vehicle, which I still had to make payments while it was broken at the dealership. I really worry about my safety, reliability and travel going forward with this vehicle. I also am very concerned about the vehicle losing value due to known issues. There was no warning signs until the failure, I believe the dash message said 'please press start' or 'press start'. Overall this has been a tough and stressful situation with my expensive vehicle investment. Vehicle unavailable- 7/26-8/17

Onstar hardware failure. I have already replaced the onstar module in 2023 due to failure. Now the hardware has failed again. No longer under warranty and GM will not replace.

I am writing to express my disappointment with how the L87 engine recall was handled on my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. I purchased this vehicle for approximately $82,000 and brought it to Kunes Chevrolet in Lake Geneva multiple times for scheduled maintenance. During my first visit after learning of the recall involving potential connecting rod and crankshaft defects, I specifically asked when my vehicle would be inspected and repaired. I was repeatedly told that I would receive additional information in the mail and that I would be contacted when repairs became available. Over the course of several oil change visits, I continued to ask about the recall. Each time, I received essentially the same response. During my most recent visit, I was informed that when the recall procedure became available, the dealership would listen to the engine with a stethoscope and then determine whether the vehicle required repairs or only a switch to a heavier oil viscosity. As a customer who invested $82,000 in a full-size SUV, I found that response extremely disappointing. The recall concerns involve engine components that could potentially lead to catastrophic engine failure. Being told that the solution may simply be listening to the engine and installing thicker oil did not inspire confidence in the long-term reliability of the vehicle. Ultimately, my confidence in both the vehicle and the handling of this recall deteriorated to the point where I no longer felt comfortable taking long trips with my family. I made the difficult decision to trade the vehicle in less than two years after purchase, resulting in an approximately $26,000 financial loss. I believe customers who invested significant amounts of money in these vehicles deserved clearer communication, a more proactive response, and a solution that restored confidence in the product. Unfortunately, my experience left me with serious trust concerns regarding both this recall process and General Motors' customer commitment.

I have 19,000 miles. After each oil change, the engine begins to idol rough, the vehicle violently shakes and the traction control and ABS turn off. The first time this happened it was determined that there was a cylinder (4) failure causing a missfire. This was corrected under warranty. A few months later immediately after receiving an oil change again, the same actions occurred. This time the computer is showing a cylinder (7) failure and engine missfire. This is very similar to what is happening on the 6.7 L GM recall l, but I don’t have the 6.7 I have the 5.8. I believe the issue is bigger than just the 6.7 L.

This vehicle is subject to Safety Recall N252494000 / NHTSA Campaign 25V274 for a known L87 6.2L V8 engine defect. Prior to the June 2025 recall notice, I incurred repair costs for the same defect at Schumacher Chevrolet, [XXX], on XXX ($405.63) and XXX ($2,755.76), neither of which resolved the issue. On XXX and again on 02/14/2025, the vehicle suffered total loss of propulsion on [XXX], once causing a missed professional licensing exam and requiring emergency roadside repair. The vehicle's engine replacement repair order remained open for 181 consecutive days (XXX) before GM authorized a full engine replacement under warranty. I submitted a written reimbursement demand to GM on XXX for $10,717.31 in documented losses under 49 CFR § 577.7. GM has not responded in writing and instead offered an unverifiable verbal credit of $3,000, which the servicing dealer has no record of. I am filing this complaint due to GM's failure to remedy this known, pre-notification defect within a reasonable time as required by 49 U.S.C. § 30120. Nearly new Chevrolet Tahoe in 2021 with less than 4,000 miles had an engine failure due to defective valve lifters that required a significant repair and lengthy out of service period (replaced valve lifters in one bank). Now in 2026 the same vehicle's engine has failed for the same reason and the engine needed to be replaced.

My 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe (VIN: [XXX]) suffered a catastrophic failure of the 6.2L V8 L87 engine assembly — specifically the connecting rod and crankshaft components — at freeway speeds on [XXX], just 9 days after purchase. The original failed engine is no longer available for inspection as it was removed and returned as a core by Shaheen Chevrolet in Lansing, MI as part of the warranty replacement process. The only symptom prior to failure was a brief squeaking noise that began approximately 0.5 miles before the engine failed. No warning lamps, messages, or other indicators appeared at any point before the failure. The engine then failed suddenly and completely at freeway speed, causing immediate loss of propulsion. My family was left stranded in an unsafe roadside location until a tow truck arrived. Sudden loss of power at freeway speeds creates significant risk of collision for both the vehicle's occupants and surrounding motorists. The failure was inspected and confirmed by Shaheen Chevrolet as a GM manufacturing defect involving the connecting rod and crankshaft. No police, insurance representatives, or GM field engineers inspected the vehicle beyond the dealership. GM authorized a full engine replacement under Special Coverage warranty (10 years/150,000 miles). The replacement engine (GM part #12740076) was on national backorder for over two months due to supplier capacity constraints. A loaner vehicle was provided during that time. This failure occurred despite a prior GM recall addressing the same rod/crankshaft defect having been performed on this vehicle. The recall remedy was ineffective. I have no confidence the replacement engine will not fail again. With approximately 597,630 vehicles affected, this represents a serious and ongoing public safety risk. 6.2L engine failure. Camshaft and lifters. My [XXX] wife ([XXX]) was driving and it shut off going down the highway. It is at my local Chevrolet dealer getting repaired. No warnings. No engine light. Vehicle has 88,000 miles on it, I purchased it April 22, 2026 with 84,700 miles on it. My Chevrolet App says there are no issues with the vehicle..it’s in pieces at the dealership. I had higher standards for a high country. Always owned Chevrolets. May be my last one. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine failure of the 6.2L L87. Was 12 hours from home with my family on vacation in Colorado cruising up a 4 lane mountain highway about 700 yards from entering [XXX] thru the mountain and the engine started screaming and knocking. Thank the lord there was a way I could quickly steer my vehicle and family off the 65 mph hwy. Engine had recently passed the recall inspection test. “3,000ish miles ago” dealership confirmed engine failure and it’s sitting in cooorado waiting for a replacement engine. I believe this will be the 3rd engine now in my car. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that two hours after parking the vehicle in the garage and turning off the vehicle, there was excessive heat coming from the vehicle, and the vehicle was extremely hot to the touch above the wheel well. Due to the heat coming from the vehicle, the contact stated that it was difficult to breathe while inside the garage. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but no failure was found with the vehicle. Later, while driving the vehicle, the vehicle lost power, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven back to the nearby dealer and was diagnosed with a fuel pump module and fuel pump hose failure. The contact was informed that the parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 129.

A GM software update removed the ability to seek radio stations using the steering-wheel controls, forcing me to use the center infotainment screen for a routine task that previously could be done without looking away from the road. Since this change, I have experienced unintended lane deviation while trying to change stations. I reported the issue to GM, but they only documented the complaint and provided no corrective action. I am asking NHTSA to evaluate whether this software change creates an unreasonable driver-distraction safety risk.

The automatic transmission on my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe (gasoline engine, 10-speed 10L80 transmission) has been exhibiting intermittent slipping/skipping during gear changes, particularly during acceleration and deceleration. The transmission component is available for inspection upon request. The malfunction poses a safety risk as the unexpected hesitation and rough shifting creates unpredictable vehicle behavior at highway speeds and during merging, increasing the risk of a collision with other vehicles. The problem has not yet been formally confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, however a knowledgeable automotive advisor has assessed the likely cause as moisture contamination of the transmission fluid, which degrades lubrication and causes erratic shifting behavior, known issue in several GM vehicles, but the only recall related to this issue is for just Diesel vehicles. I contacted General Motors customer service regarding this issue and was directed to file this complaint with NHTSA, as GM stated they were unable to attach or create a related existing recall to my vehicle. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or the manufacturer at this time. I am in the process of scheduling service at a transmission specialist. No warning lamps or dashboard messages appeared prior to or during the shifting malfunction. Symptoms first became noticeable at 85,000 miles, and have continued since.

My vehicle, 2023 Tahoe, previously had the GM Recall 25V-274 / N252494001 remedy performed (0W-40 oil swap) in October of 2025. Despite completing the manufacturer's official recall remedy, the engine suffered a sudden, dangerous loss of motive power at highway speeds when I was making an out of state move and traveling alone; it was terrifying. I had to have it towed to the nearest dealership and that is where it is now as I had to leave since I was in the middle of moving. I need a new engine. I have no idea how I will get my Tahoe to my new residence or when. The dealership was not open on Sundays so I had to find a place to stay after leaving my Tahoe full of my items and my bike. I was so afraid it would be broken into. I had an oil pressure warning right before the engine completely stalled. And, I was accelerating up an incline and it felt like my Tahoe couldn't get enough power to make the incline. My Tahoe only has 35,047 miles, and threw the Diagnostic Trouble Code P0016 through my ONSTAR app as well as with the tech at the dealership. And, I am having a lot of trouble with GM corporate with rental cars. I had to pay out of pocket in order to get back on the road with my belongings as I start a new job this week at my new home. I had to leave some belongings and my bike with my Tahoe at the dealership.

The transmission began slipping at 20, 25, 35, and 45 mph by the time we hit 80k miles. The vehicle was out of warranty. We were told it was unaffected by the recalls and not related to the issues affecting other drivers. It now has 167k miles and we have tried having the transmission flushed but it still slips and needs a new transmission. Chevy knows about these issues and refuses to replace their horrible product since they also sell the cure to the problem and make money off of it.
