One cell in the Hybrid Battery failed causing the car to go into safety mode. Battery assistance to the engine stopped and gas engine was the only source of power. Was told the car could be a fire hazard in this condition and required repairing the hybrid system.

The contact owns a 2021 BMW X3. The contact stated that upon refueling the vehicle and attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start on several occasions. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to restart after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where DTC: P0172 and P0446 were retrieved. The contact related the failure to BMW TSB Number: SIB 01 02 24. An independent mechanic advised the contact to only fill the fuel tank to half full. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

BMW USA has stopped providing warranty and service manuals, probably to save on costs. Instead, BMW requires a user to log into its website to find these documents. However, despite the 2026 model year BMW X3 being offered in the market since September 2025, the website does not offer these important documents. This is a safety violation because owners cannot determine what recommended service is for their vehicles. It's also a consumer protection issue as the abbreviated printed card provided at delivery specifically refers owners to the online service and warranty manuals which as of late October 2025 are unavailable online.

OE Windshield failed with a crack from no strike or extremely small pebbles. Have had to replace windshield 2x in 3 months of ownership. Others with the same FUYAO glass have had to replace multiple times as well. Owners are starting to figure out there may be a manufacturing defect in the glass.

I am a [XXX] male who has been driving for [XXX]. I am very familiar with cars. I recently experienced a situation which could be catastrophic for anyone, especially children. I was sitting in the car on a moderately cool day with the sun shining very bright. I was in a parking lot parked in a remote location. My wife, who was driving went into a store to shop. She took the FOB with her. She shopped longer than expected. The car's interior started to heat up and eventually I realized i was in a very dangerous situation. I could not open the doors or windows without the FOB. I was considering kicking out a window when my wife returned to the car and opened a door. She later went to the dealership and was told there is a special procedure one most follow to unlock the doors without the FOB being present and someone in the car. This is a ridiculous situation which could become tragic if a child was involved. The simple remedy would be to have the interior locking pin for each door extend far enough beyond the door panel so one can unlock the door in an emergency like they did in the "old" days. POWER TRAIN
*Rear differential bolt and bushing failure two times in less than twelve months. Rear drive making loud banging noises. Vehicle not able to drive. Vehicle rear drive failed as vehicle was in motion. *If I was traveling at high rate of speed, this could have cause the vehicle to lose control. *Problem was reported to dealer and fixed the first time. The second time the dealer refused to fix the problem. *Vehicle was inspected by dealer and I was blamed for the bolt and bushing failure, with no proof of any fault or abusive driving. *No warning lamps or messages were alerted to warn of any danger or damage to vehicle. *First Incident was January 14th, 2025. Second incident was August 28th, 2025.

I own a 2024 BMW X3 that has developed a recurring and unpredictable safety issue with the tailgate. Without any input from me — and without pressing the key fob, tailgate button, or any switch — the rear tailgate will open on its own. This has occurred multiple times while the vehicle was parked, locked, and unattended, and it has also happened shortly after driving and parking. I brought the vehicle to an authorized BMW dealership for diagnosis under warranty. The dealership inspected the vehicle but was unable to identify the cause and returned the vehicle without repairing the problem. Despite my request for further escalation (such as opening a technical case with BMW’s engineering team), the issue remains unresolved. This defect poses a significant safety risk. An uncommanded tailgate opening could result in the vehicle’s contents falling out, create a road hazard, or lead to injury to people nearby. It also increases the risk of theft or water intrusion into the cargo area. The problem is intermittent and unpredictable, but it continues to happen. I am submitting this report because the issue remains unresolved by the manufacturer and could endanger both occupants and the public.

Within 2 months of buying the new vehicle this year in February 2025, a rodent entered the vehicle through the air suction vent, reached the cabin air filter and damaged it. The vehicle tech told me that it was good that the rodent didn't damage the car wiring. Else it could have cost me thousands of dollars. But I think, it is a safety concern as well. If the rodent would have chewed the wiring insulation, shorting of two wires or broken wires can cause safety risk while driving by causing sudden malfunctioning. So, I told BMW that it is manufacturing defect, and they should 1) Put a mesh barrier to prevent from future access of any rodent. 2) Pay for the repair because my car is covered by bumper-to-bumper warranty. They didn't accept any of my above requests. So, I had to pay for the repairs, and the defect still remains which can cause similar or worse damage.

While driving, noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Immediately pulled in a parking lot where the smoke turned to fire and burned the entire car by the time fire dept arrived. I was the only person in the car and was luckily able to exit the vehicle before the actual fire started. Incident reported to insurance company and they are investigating. There were no dash warning lights of any kind.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
My wife was driving our 2025 BMW X3 in traffic and when the car in front braked suddenly. She tried to change lanes but clipped the car in front, resulting in nearly $22 thousand in damages. BMW's review of the car's "black box" purportedly shows that the Forward Collision Mitigation system engaged, but only a split second prior to the crash, which my wife did not experience. BMW's review also purports that my wife did not brake, which she also disputes. Even more concerning is that the parts need to repair the car seem to be completely unavailable from BMW--the car has been sitting in a body shop for almost 2 months and BMW has "no ETA" for the parts.

Brand new 2025 BMW X3 loud suspension noise coming front the font below 20 miles per hour. The car has ~5,000 miles. It happens every time and is pretty consistent. You can hear every imperfection on the road. I think is can be a safety concert - I see multiple reports that having similar concern.

SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
When starting the vehicle, the message center displays "Loss Communications Brake System Control Module A." The vehicle losses power steering, speedometer indication, tire pressure monitoring, and stability control. There are numerous codes displayed for Brake System, Power Steering, Parking Brake and Stability Control. This is the third time that this event has happened. Turning the vehicle off and restarting after approximately 1 hour the codes were clear and everything appears to work properly. This event occurs randomly and resets after the vehicle is turned off and restarted after a period of approximately 1 hour. The loss of power steering and speed indication is a safety hazard. I have been driving this vehicle when the power steering and speedometer stopped working. The steering requires a lot more effort to turn and you do not know the current speed of the vehicle. The BMW dealer charged us the customer for a software update to fix this issue. We are not confident that the vehicle is fixed because this is a random event. I believe this should be a safety recall. There is a recall on BMW 2023 and 2024 models for the same issue. The recall does not include the 2022 model at this time. SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING, SUSPENSION
I am reporting a persistent and concerning mechanical issue with my 2025 BMW X3. A clunking noise is occurring frequently, particularly over uneven road surfaces and during normal driving maneuvers such as turning, accelerating, or braking at low speeds (generally below 20 mph). This noise is accompanied by a noticeable vibration that can be felt through the steering wheel and the brake pedal. The sound has been heard and confirmed by several passengers who have ridden in the vehicle with me. I have brought this issue to the attention of my local BMW dealership on August 6, 2025. During my visit, the service team was unable to replicate the issue and stated they could not confirm a problem. They advised me to continue driving the vehicle and suggested that if a defect exists, it would likely worsen over time and become easier to diagnose. I have since contacted the dealership again to request a more thorough inspection, as the issue has not resolved and remains a significant concern.

The vehicle had decelerated and was jerking abnormally. There was an abnormal flickering sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who retrieved codes related to computer failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
Rear view camera can be obstructed entirely by other full screen elements when interacting with hard of soft buttons. This 100% reproducible effect results in the need to occasionally shift back into park and then reverse to restart the rvc process and have the video appear on top of other on screen content. This appears to violate fmvss rules for reverse cameras.

Driving on the highway, unexpectedly i was not able to turn anymore. On the road was something I wanted to not hit, but steering did not work as usual. The car was forced to the left into the wall and the only thing i was able to do was using the breaks steady and slowly. Steering in the other direction did not work and in the end i hit the divider wall on the left shoulder

I believe there is a flaw in the architecture of start-stop technology in conjunction with the electronic shifting technology installed in cars today.. I have ran into this issue twice in a 18month period and I believe it is something the NHTSA should institute new requirements on car manufacturers. My wifes BMW X3 start stop technology has failed twice in 18months and that is not a big deal. Things break and need to be repaired but given the car can not be put in neutral it left us stranded unable to move the vehicle in the middle of the road until a tow truck could move us out of the road. I could have easily put the car in the neutral (if allowed) and pushed the car off to the side of the road out of traffic. Luckily in both occasions a police officer pulled up very quickly and was able to alert traffic there was a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. I want you to imagine being in stop and go traffic on highway 95 and this happens. Then the traffic actually dissipates and your vehicl is in the middle lane on hwy 95 unable to be moved until a tow truck arrives and now the traffic is going 65-70 mph. The BMW X3 can not be place in neutral unless you go underneath the car in some sort of service panel. I do not believe given the mandate of auto-stop start on these new cars coupled with the inability to place cars into neutral is a good design point and I would hope the the NHTSA would mandate cars be able to put cars in neutral to avoid potentially catastrophic accidents on the highways across America..
