I am reporting a potential safety issue involving my **2026 BMW X3 30 xDrive**. I was parked on the right side of a parking lot. I moved the vehicle partially out of the parking space and slightly to the left to allow someone to enter the vehicle. I came to a stop and removed my foot from the brake while the vehicle was being held. I then turned toward the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle suddenly accelerated/moved forward across the parking aisle and struck two vehicles. The incident happened extremely quickly. I cannot state with certainty whether my foot inadvertently contacted the accelerator, and I do not want to speculate. I believe I attempted to brake. Of particular concern, I experienced **no apparent automatic collision-avoidance/emergency braking intervention before striking the vehicles**. Prior to this accident, I had expressed concern to a BMW advisor about the speed and acceleration of this vehicle while using its automated parking system. While the advisor was demonstrating the automated parking feature, I specifically commented that the vehicle was moving unusually fast and that I was uncomfortable with the amount of acceleration. I was told that this behavior was normal. On another occasion while using the automated parking/reverse function, I became sufficiently concerned about the vehicle's speed and acceleration that I applied the brake myself because I was afraid the vehicle could cause a collision. I had also previously raised concerns regarding inconsistent operation of the vehicle's Lane Departure Warning/assistance system. I have contacted BMW of North America and requested that BMW preserve and examine the vehicle's electronic and diagnostic data, including accelerator and brake inputs, Auto Hold status, automated parking system activity, Forward Collision Mitigation/Automatic Emergency Braking activity, sensor information, diagnostic/event logs and available crash/event data. I have specifically asked BMW to determine whether acc

2022 BMW X3 M40i. The Driver Assistance system appears to activate normally after startup with no warning or indication that a fault is present. However, within approximately 3–5 minutes of driving, a Check Control message appears stating “Driver Assistance limited. Camera vision.” The vehicle then identifies affected systems including Pedestrian Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, Side Collision Warning, Automatic Lane Change, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Steering Assistant. A separate message states that Active Cruise Control is reduced and there may be no brake intervention for stationary vehicles. The safety concern is that the system can appear active and available before the warning appears, even though at least some driver-assistance functions may already not be operating. Before the warning was displayed, I observed that Steering Assistant/lane-keeping did not intervene and I crossed out of my lane without steering correction or a lane-departure warning. There was no prior warning that the camera-based system was malfunctioning. I cannot confirm whether the other affected safety functions were operational during this interval. A BMW dealer inspected the vehicle and physically found the KAFAS camera hood/trim warped from heat. The warped component was removed and shown to me, and the dealer ordered a replacement. BMW has issued SIB 66 13 23 addressing KAFAS camera hood deformation on affected vehicles. Fault memory also contained KAFAS codes 800ABF, 800ABE, and 800AC4 for camera field-of-view disturbance and calibration failure. This creates a potential safety defect because the driver may reasonably believe lane-keeping and other camera-based safety systems are functioning until the vehicle detects the failure several minutes later. The vehicle/component can be made available for inspection

I was pulling out of a parking spot and my X3 completely stalled and lost power. I got infomation on my screen to take my car to my dealer as soon as possible. I was able to start and drive it home. The following week I took it to the dealer for the problem. My local BMW dealer has had my X3 since July 27th over 2 weeks. They said they waiting for a code or fix for what happened. I don’t know if it’s a power train or engine problem. My X3 only has 21,000 miles on it. My concern is this problem could have happened on highway and I could have had a different outcome.

**NHTSA Complaint — 2025 BMW X3 M50 Category: Suspension / Vehicle Stability** Video Evidence: A video showing the body motion over a standard safety speed bump is available here: [[XXX]] Complaint Summary: I am reporting a suspension and stability concern with my 2025 BMW X3 M50. At very low speeds (under 5 mph), when driving over standard safety zone speed bumps, the vehicle exhibits excessive side to side body motion. After crossing the bump, the SUV rocks left to right at least twice before settling, even when all four wheels travel over the bump in a straight line. This behavior is repeatable and occurs on multiple similar speed bumps in my parking garage. The condition is significantly reduced in Sport mode, where the suspension feels tighter and more controlled. In Comfort mode, the rocking motion is pronounced and feels unstable. Dealer Visit: I brought the vehicle to the BMW Service Center in Port Chester, NY on XXXThe dealer documented the issue exactly as I described it: “At very low speeds under 5 mph the vehicle has excessive side to side body motion, feels unsettled, rocks back and forth twice before settling… The condition is significantly reduced in Sports mode.” Despite acknowledging the symptoms, the service manager stated that “the suspension is normal,” noted that there were “no Check Control Messages,” and reported that they “compared to another X3 M50 and vehicle feels the same.” No repairs were performed. Safety Concern: The side to side oscillation affects vehicle stability and driver control during low speed maneuvers, especially in confined areas such as parking garages. I am submitting this complaint to request further investigation into whether this suspension behavior is normal for this model or indicative of a potential defect in the suspension damping or stability control calibration. Mileage: 31,694 (bought [new]) The engine starter intermittently fails to crank the engine and, per an open manufacturer recall, presents a fire risk while the vehicle is running. On multiple occasions the vehicle struggled to start during normal use. There was no crash, no injury, and no airbag deployment. To isolate the issue I contacted my authorized BMW dealer three times 07/01/2026, 07/16/2026 & 07/27/2026; on each call I was told no recall remedy is currently available and to call back in approximately one month. The vehicle remains subject to the open starter recall with no repair available. No relevant aftermarket equipment is installed.

I am writing to report a known safety-related defect on my 2021 BMW X3, VIN [XXX]. 1 The vehicle was diagnosed at BMW of Manhasset, an authorized BMW dealer, with a coolant leak originating from the heat management module and oil filter housing. This is not ordinary wear and tear. BMW's own service bulletin SIB 11 10 25 identifies this failure mode as a known issue affecting B46/B48/B58-equipped vehicles, which includes my X3. 3 4 5 The same defect is also the subject of an active U.S. class action, XXX. v. BMW of North America, LLC (D.N.J.), covering the same engine families. This defect presents a genuine safety risk, not merely a cost issue. The oil filter housing's internal wall structures, which separate the oil and coolant passages, are prone to failing or warping, and the gaskets sealing those passages are prone to premature failure. When this occurs, coolant can leak into the oil sump or drain externally, which can cause sudden engine overheating and/or engine failure, sometimes within minutes of the leak developing. If oil escapes and contacts the hot exhaust, it can also create a fire risk. A vehicle experiencing this failure is not safe to continue driving, and the risk of sudden, catastrophic engine damage or fire warrants a recall rather than leaving affected owners to discover and pay for this known defect on their own. Since purchasing my vehicle, I have experienced numerous ongoing issues that BMW has failed to address. The problems include: A squealing and beeping noise coming from the engine. The headlights turning on by themselves. Interior lights turning on without warning. The vehicle shaking while driving. The check engine light repeatedly coming on. A recent gasoline smell that required me to take the vehicle to the shop due to safety concerns. The roof making a popping noise when driving over uneven driveways or surfaces. I have documented many of these issues with multiple videos. Despite providing evidence and repeatedly reporting these problems, BMW has ignored my concerns and has not adequately resolved the defects.

There is an open safety recall for the engine starter on this vehicle. I contacted the local BMW dealer on 7/10/26 to have the recall fixed they advised me that they cannot address the recall because BMW North America has not sent the parts out for them to do so. I would like this on record in case there is any future damage to my vehicle due to the recall.

I was driving on the interstate at about 65-70 MPH when the sunroof exploded without apparent cause. This caused glass to be scattered throughout the vehicle and given the sudden event, sound and disruption to driving I would say that this is a safety issue. The same day this happened I dropped the car off at the dealer for repair estimate and coincidentally there was another BMW, a new X7, that just had the same thing happen without cause. This makes me think that there is a manufacturing defect.

- #11748083July 2, 2026LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
Lane keep assist performance has been degrading to the point that it very quickly disables itself when overcorrecting or an oscillation of the steering wheel is developed while system is trying to keep the car inside the lane (which eventually also disables the system). System always had a bit of “bounce” between the two sides of the lane and struggled to keep the vehicle exactly in the middle of the lane. But it is much worse now and I am now more often than not disabling it. System feels unsafe now. The KAFAS (camera) module is having random faults now that disable the system but go away and Lane Assist can be re-engaged without any change in the performance I described above. As an engineer I would simply call the Lane Assist control algorithm unstable with an oscillation that gets amplified. I’ve done simple tests where I center the vehicle inside the lane, engage the feature, and take my hands off the steering wheel (vehicle has some limited hands free capability—goal is to eliminate any disturbance from my hands to be the potential trigger for the oscillation). I used to be able to do this and now it rarely works and forces me to quickly take over. Another observation has been that the camera is also used to follow a vehicle ahead of me (in lieu of centering in the lane) and this rarely works now to the point of trusting it. Nothing recent has changed on the vehicle. At first I thought it may be a wheel alignment problem but when the camera module started to have sporadic errors I eliminated that root cause (recall that Lane Assist system always oscillated when engaged, but was definitely usable before). Seems like both problems originate at the camera module. Vehicle did have a windshield replacement and camera was recalibrated many months before this problem developed. Performance was the same immediately before and after replacement.

On June 23, 2026 around 3:30pm, we were driving 70 mph on an interstate (I40) and the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered on our BMW X3. We were not struck by anything and there was no inclement weather or extreme heat. The sunshade was pulled so we were not hit by the glass, but we were very much in danger. My baby was in the backseat and he would have had glass all over him. We had to pull over on the highway and had to arrange for another car to take us home.
