- #11637207January 20, 2025VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD
The windshield on our new 2025 Mazda CX-5 is defective. Objects viewed through the windshield are distorted, to include the Active Driver’s Display (colloquially known as the HUD). Drivers and passengers are impeded from clearly seeing and focusing on objects visible throughout the front of the vehicle. Objects to include road signs are distorted, lose clarity which result in unnecessary and dangerous distractions. This problem significantly degrades the vehicle’s usability, safety and ultimate enjoyment.

I have a sensitive key fob that releases my hatch without my knowledge or intention. Twice my hatch opened causing damage to my hatch inside my garage. I’ve have read many complaints about the same issue, dating back years and some having their hatch open while parked outside. I have contacted the dealership and the corporation all saying there was a nothing that can be done. This is a major concern since the key fob is so sensitive and can activate in only a second to touch

Engine light came on. Immediately brought to dealer. Always serviced at dealership. One previous occurance of illuminated light reading major engine malfunction. Pulled car to side of road, called dealership who advised turn off and back on. Didn't tell me about ALL the problems that Mazda was aware of. Now I'm told my new car with 22k miles has a blown engine. No notification from Mazda about a known problem. Asked when buying the car if there were any major problems with this car. Mazda apparently lies.

Car engine shut down and slowly came to a full stop on the highway on 1/4/25, putting myself and my daughter of being rear ended at full speed on a highway where the speed limit is 65mph. The steering wheel locked and I was unable to move the car to any shoulder. I put the car in park and pressed the start ignition button to start the car and was able to drive again. An appointment is scheduled for 1/17/25 for diagnostics at a Mazda dealership. There were no warning messages prior to this event.. My battery was replaced 2 weeks prior to this incident.

The contact owns a 2023 Mazda CX-5. The contact stated that while the temperature was 45 degrees or lower, the vehicle failed to start properly, and the engine failed to warm up properly. The coolant light was illuminated, and the engine temperature gauge failed to rise above COLD. The vehicle occasionally failed to start or while started and driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled while and engine temperature failed to reach the normal operating temperature. The check engine light was illuminated. The contact would shift to SPORT Mode to prevent the cylinder activation from occurring and causing the vehicle to stall. The contact stated that the failure persisted, and the vehicle was hesitating while driving in temperatures of 50 degrees or less. Additionally, the key fob intermittently failed to unlock the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and had to be towed. The contact stated that during the recent failure, the battery was disconnected, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the key fob battery had been replaced 6 times; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired for the engine failure. The contact called another dealer, J. Allen Mazda (15150 Airport Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503); however, only an appointment to inspect the vehicle was made but the vehicle was not yet inspected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.

The Low Oil Warning Light comes on between oil changes. I think this is the 3-4th time. I will have to add 1 quart of oil to the car after 3000-4000 miles. I only have about 33,000 miles on this vehichle and do the oil changes myself. I checked for leaks at the oil filter and oil drain plug. No indication of oil leaking or I would see it on the floor of my garage. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Engine using excessive amounts of oil. It could be available for inspection How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I plan to take it into the dealer for next oil change and report it. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The Low Oil warning comes on

While driving on the road at the posted speed limit (55 mph), I heard a gunshot-like sound. There was no debris on the road and no drivers close ahead. After hearing the sound, I hear wind above me. I open the shade of my sunroof and see that the glass on the sunroof had exploded. The sunroof was not open prior to the incident and no windows were open either. The AC was on minimal capacity. After getting off the road and looking at what happened, the glass on the sunroof had completely exploded out. You could tell by the shape of the glass that it bursted from within, either due to pressure, faulty glass, improper assembly/manufacturing, etc.

Mazda’s CX-5 engines, particularly in earlier models, have been known to experience issues with Hydraulic Lash Adjusters (HLAs), which are responsible for maintaining proper valve clearance. Many owners have reported a persistent tapping or ticking noise, especially during cold starts. This issue is often caused by air bubbles or insufficient oil supply to the HLAs, and cold weather exacerbates the problem as thicker oil struggles to circulate until the engine warms up. The HLAs have also faced criticism for their sensitivity to oil pressure and quality, making them prone to failure in less-than-ideal conditions. Mazda claims that replacements and redesigns have resolved these issues in newer engine models and has not issued any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for models after 2021. However, I experienced the HLA “ticking” noise in my 2022 CX-5, suggesting the issue has not been fully addressed. I am concerned about the longevity of these parts and potential repair costs in the future, as Mazda seems to be dismissing the problem. I have a video capturing the noise but cannot attach it to this form. If interested, please contact me, and I can provide the video. Additionally, there are countless videos of similar issues shared on the CX-5 subreddit, which can be found by searching “clicking” at the following link: [XXX] . The engine on my 2022 naturally aspirated Mazda CX5, is making a loud ticking noise when cold started. The vehicle is in pristine condition and is services regularly at the dealer with only 33,000 miles. The ticking noise is a known issue for this make and model, where Mazda has issued a TSB for faulty hydraulic valve lash. This is a distinct noise that is sharp and metallic and distracting when driving the vehicle, even after a period of time. I can hear it through my radio and it does not sound good. Evidently 2022 is not part of the TSB, yet my vehicle is still affected by this noise. Filing a complaint with NHTSA to formalize this record.

The vehicle continues to have safety features malfunctions with its sensors. The forward facing camera sensor and the Blind Spot Monitoring Sensor continues to malfunctions when driving in clear visibility with light to heavy traffic at random times during a day. These features assist the driver to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles while driving. My vehicle has almost crashed several times due to the failures of the features such as the stop and go traffic and forward facing crash detection not working properly.

Just received a Warranty Extension Program - Special Service Program (SSP) D8 notice from Mazda. It states that on my vehicle the fail-safe thermostat could fail in the stuck open position and they are extending the warranty for that part to 15 years. Meaning, if it fails, they'll fix it. My issue is that if that part COULD fail, they should go ahead and do a voluntary recall, and replace the part, and be done with it. I'm thinking maybe you could require Mazda to do that.

I was driving to Home Depot after work around 6PM PST on [XXX] and must have fallen asleep at the wheel about a.1/4 of a mile from my house and left the road way after a turn. I hit my head so hard I had to be treated for a head injury and the car dialed 911 for me to report a crash. The airbags nor any other safety system triggered besides detecting a crash and dialing 911. My car was deemed totalled by insurance and had to go to the hospital. Headlight of the motor keeps rumbling in about 25000 miles of usage. Expense of fixing such a motor is estimated between 2500-2800$. Further, it is unknown how safe it would be for someone to keep driving such a car with a rumbling motor if they dont fix it. This sound and vibration of the motor can be felt even in a standing car when lights are on.

Check engine oil light came on after only 2K miles from last oil change. Upon inspection there was practically no oil in my engine!!! I see there is an ongoing issue since 10/21 with 2021 Mazda CX-5 turbo engines. Despite Mazda’s awareness of the problem, they have yet to issue a recall to fix this issue!!!

Engine developed a major oil leak at 70,000 miles, with multiple seals leaking. This appears to be a known defect with these vehicles and owners should not be bearing the cost for repairs.
