My wife was picking up our daughter from school. The car shutdown as my wife was getting into the left hand turn lane to go onto our main street. The warning dash lights turned on, but she could not turn on the car. She called me and I left work early to help her out. She called me a few minutes later telling me she was able to get the car started but that it sounded as though "rocks were in the engine." When I got home, I opened the hood and checked the dip stick and noticed metal flecks and shavings on the end. I tested the dipstick 3 more times and each time I inspected it noticed the flecks and shavings. I then called a tow truck to have the car transported to Hyundai. The sudden engine failure led me down a rabbit hole online and realized this is a widespread issue with a lot of Hyundai vehicles. Luckily, the dealership is replacing the engine since it is still under warranty. I plan on getting rid of the vehicle as soon as possible. The quality of their engines is awful. Despite taking the car for regular maintenance it still failed. It's also telling that the dealership I'm at has several other Hyundai's they're servicing FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUE! I was also informed it can take up to a month for the engine to be replaced. Stay away from Hyundai and Kia. There's a reason why they have the types of warranty's for their vehicles. They know they're unreliable and faulty.

On [XXX] as I was driving down the highway, the check engine light came on the dashboard and the car lost acceleration. I could not go any faster than approximately 30 miles per hour. Very dangerous situation when you’re traveling in a lane of traffic that’s is doing 65/70 mph. I was able to get the car to Premier Hyundai, a dealer in Seaside, CA. At that time there was a recall for the Knock sensor. They replaced the knock sensor at that time and did some other services including an oil change and sent me on my way. They told me at the time that the code that had come up was P1326. Entering this incident now, because I realized I had missed reporting this specific incident. This VIN# has had the issues 5 times since the [XXX] incident and I feel very strongly that this is a HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. when this happens when you are driving down the freeway at 65-70 MPH and it suddenly goes into LIMP MODE. You are at the mercy of the cars that are approaching you from behind doing 70 when you're only able to do 30 mph. This is an ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. PLEASE Do SOMETHING. I see where you closed an investigation into these issues. - PLEASE REOPEN the investigation and hold the manufacturer accountable. These settlements they come up with are not worth the paper they're written on. The consumer is getting fed up and we need someone to help us. On March [XXX], at [XXX]., on my way to a meeting, my Hyundai Tucson 2019 suddenly lost acceleration at 35mph. Immediately, the engine light came on and flashed very constantly. The acceleration pedal was not able to give more speed. There was a lot of traffic, and it was a very scary moment. I was very close to the Hyundai dealership at 750 N York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126. I spoke with one of their representatives, and I was informed that they would evaluate the problem, but it would be up to two days before they could give a full diagnostic; this step will be $185.00, but they will call me before they do anything with the car. The dealership paid for my Uber ride back to work, as they said that no loaner cars were available. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

First incident: While driving on the highway, my vehicle began to vibrate intensely, jerking, lost acceleration and ultimately was unable to drive. Smelled burning. No warning lights came on- no indication of a problem. I only had time to exit on ramp and car stopped in the middle of traffic. Car had to be towed to dealer. Second incident: I was driving and the vehicle began jerking and vibrating with no acceleration. Smelled burning again. Only after this happened did the engine light appear. I was able to get over to the side of the road. Luckily I wasn’t far from home. Car had to be towed to dealer again Very unsafe and no recall from Hyundai.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that after the vehicle came to a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle lurched forward but hesitated to accelerate immediately. An unknown warning light illuminated, and the check engine warning light was later illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved DTC Code: P073F (Unable to Engage Gear 1), but no repair was recommended. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V628000 (Power Train, Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

Loss of power while driving thru heavy traffic causing car to go into a low speed. No warning lights until after turning off and back on. Hyundai dealership confirms no compression cyl 3, metal shaving in engine block, oil full. Engine in car 1.6L GDI turbo, not under hyundai recall. Hyundai denying claim to replace because vin not included in recall but does admit engine is same as in other recalled engines for same issue. Losing power in heavy traffic with no warning was safety issue. Only light to come on was engine light after the fact.

2017 tuscon with less than 100k miles, started making knocking sounds and unable to accerlate. The engine light came on. I go to the dealership, without any inspections he says it's a rod bearings. The 1.6T engine was retired because of the issues and they are still selling these faulty vehicles! I've only had the vehicle for 2 yrs.

Was driving home from shopping on highway- lights flashed on dash and check engine light came on. Driving on highway and car goes into “limp mode” and will not go over 30 mph. Almost got rear ended by car coming up from behind traveling at normal highway speed. DANGEROUS!!! This is 5th time this has happened! The manufacturer needs to address these issues. Its happening to way too many people! [XXX] Theres a facebook group too but i can’t seem to get the url. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Door locks no longer work. Passenger side failed and now (3 months later) drivers side failed. This prevents entry and exit in case of emergency. Rear doors function appropriately. When locking and unlocking the doors, the front two make a mechanical sound. When unlocked, they do not open.

I went out side at 6 AM on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, and found my 2015 Hyundai Tucson locked and running. The windshield wipers were on. I did not start the car myself and it was locked. Both keys were inside my house and had not been out of my care. The remote start key was in my locked jewelry box, never having been used since I owned the car. My regular key was in my purse. I did not know what to do so looked on line and found several incidents similar to this but unexplained. I called two Hyundai dealerships, a corporate office, and a national Hyundai help line. No one from Hyundai that I spoke with had ever heard of such an incident, although there were a few reported by private individuals on the internet. On that evening the car started up on its own outside my house at 6:00 o’clock. I called the police who told me to disconnect the battery for safety’s sake. I called the Hyundai numbers again and they have agreed to talk with in a few days.

Hyundai Corporate and Bentley Huntsville are refusing to fix faulty engine in vehicle. Bentley Hyundai submitted a fake PA asking for Hyundai Corporation to pay for engine combustion cleaning. Hyundai Corporation and Bentley Hyundai Huntsville Alabama are not honoring extended warranties on known engine failure in their vehicles that are stalling on highways, catching fire and damaging other car parts such as catalytic converter, compressors and rod throwing of engines on highways. This is a danger to consumers and should be addressed.

I have joined the millions of disappointed Hyundai customers who have faulty engines in their cars. Hyundai is refusing to replace my engine or provide any assistance because there is no formal recall for my vehicle. In May of 2023, my engine failed after starting to have oil consumption issues and Hyundai diagnosed it as failure due to maintenance neglect. When I opened a case with Hyundai, I gave all maintenance records, including a January full-point inspection done by Hyundai, showing no engine issues or anything engine-related to be addressed. In follow up after providing the records, Hyundai determined it was actually not due to neglect of maintenance, but a dirty valve train, and therefore there was nothing they could do since I was out of my warranty period. However, when I asked how I was to know my valve train was dirty if all my inspections came back with no issues, I was told that it just happens and there is no way to prevent. I asked them to re-open my case and they again asked for maintenance records, the ones I already provided, to try and say again that it was maintenance related. I kept getting different stories from the case manager, the service manager at Cool Springs Hyundai, and the GM at Cool Springs Hyundai. I have since joined a group on Facebook with thousands of others encountering this same issue - random engine failure and case managers requesting maintenance records in the hopes Hyundai can find a way to blame it on the consumer. It’s no secret that Hyundai makes vehicles with faulty engines as seen by the multiple recalls over the past few years, including the recent one regarding engine fires affecting 3+ million customers. Hyundai needs to be held accountable. In research of my engine, the 1.6L GDI, I see that this engine is under recall for the Hyundai Veloster for the same exact issue that I have had, but for some reason that same engine in my vehicle has yet to be recalled. I plead for your assistance and resolving.

Rear passenger door not opening even with door lock in the unlocked position. Child lock was is not activated. I've seen multiple Hyundai fourms regarding this. With door unable to open, presents a safety risk in an accident if the other doors become unoperable. My Hyundai service department has acknowledged the issue, but will not fix without charging.

When both driving and idling, the car will either stall or feel like it is about to stall, when all of a sudden the vehicle “pauses” for a second and then all of the dashboard lights come on. This has now happened at least 4 times in the past month. It will reset after turning the car off, but on more than one occasion after turning the car off, the engine doesn’t restart right away. Thankfully, the car has restarted and it resets the dashboard lights. My safety is a concern if my car stalls while driving at any speed! I have yet to take it to the dealer, as there’s a VERY long wait for an appointment - another recurring issue. No one has inspected this for me, and it is very concerning. There is plenty of evidence that this is happening to others in both online forums and Hyundai owners sites online.

It started [XXX] when i took my car to the dealership due to it going into limp mode. The dealership took it in and said it was throwing error code p1326 which is the knock sensor code. they replaced the knock sensor, drove my tucson home after the replacement, by the time i got home it went into limp mode again, took my car back to the dealership turns out it was a faulty sensor they received. So the dealership replaced the sensor again, did not have an issue with it until decemember 2023, so i took it to get the error code read again and it was the p1326, so i make an appointment with the dealership to bring it back in and they said hyundai of america says it needed the combustion chamber cleaning, which i had to pay for. even though it was throwing the p1326 error code. but after the cleaning is done i pick it back up and not even ten miles from the dealership my car goes back into limp mode, so i turn around and take it back. they just got back to me on [XXX] saying hyundia of america is declining to replace my engine since its no longer under warranty.
