- #11583708April 17, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The car suddenly and unintentionally accelerated. To avoid going through the back of my garage, I turned slightly and hit the frame of the garage. It continued to accelerate for a few seconds until I managed to stop it. I then backed up. Again, the car suddenly unintentionally accelerated. I managed to stop it. I slowly drove it into the garage. I left it in the garage until having it towed to Planet Hyundai. I did not want to drive it in case it accelerated on the drive to Planet Hyundai. I was driving about 5 mph when I hit the frame of the garage. The car continued to accelerate. Automatic Emergency breaking and Forward collision warning. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. The inspector or the dealer could not reproduce the problem. The vehicle can be inspected. The vehicle has been parked at Planet Hyundai from 1/29/2024 to 4/15/2024 I reported the incident to Hyundai USA.I have not received any inspection reports.

- #11583313April 16, 2024AIR BAGS
None of the air bags deployed. The vehicle is currently sitting in a tow yard, but is awaiting a an assessment by the insurance adjuster. If the car is totaled, I do not know where it will go. My safety was compromised both when I was T boned by the first car on the passenger side of my car, which no air bags deployed at that time, and then from that car, I was pushed into oncoming traffic, where I was hit head on from another car. I was jilted to the left and sustained injuries, and then when I was struck head on, I was jilted forward towards the steering wheel, and then jilted backwards, also resulting in injury. I believe all other airbags on the other 2 cars were deployed. However, my car, and myself received the most severe damage to my car and myself. The car has been inspected by the police, and the Tow Truck owner in person. The insurance company, and hospital personnel has viewed the vehicle by pictures only. However, I am awaiting communications from the claims adjuster. I am unaware of any waring lamps etc. as the wreck happened less than a second. I was doing 35-40 mph, and she pulled out in front of me, and I had no chance or opportunity to apply my brakes. I have a chest wall, and left shoulder contusion, a concussion, an a hairline fractured collarbone. I do believe that if the airbags had deployed, I would not have suffered these injuries, or the severity.

Timing Chain/ Engine failure. Alert/Dashboard failure. The car ran out of oil from the leaking oil pan. Car failed to notified the driver of low oil. Engine failure due to low oil while driving on interstate. Causing to low all power in the middle of the road. Vehicle was inspected by a mechanic and Tow company. Both said it was the timing chain and that the engine was not good anymore. No warning lamps or messages or any other symptoms prior to the incident.

After owning my vehicle for 4 years, it has started burning oil. Burning about 2 quarts every 14 days. Was directed by dealership to perform oil consumption test every 1000 miles, which is all logged through the dealership and was sent on my way. The problem is now affecting my spark plugs and could packs. After all we're replaced/changed, when plugs are removed, they are covered in oil and are fried! Hyundai has not addressed the issue, but many consumers have this same problem.

While on the highway going 70mph the check engine light flashed on the immediately off out of nowhere and car started aggressively shaking before loosing temporary power. My wife and toddler were in the car and we were all pretty shaken up. Luckily I was able to gain control of the car but I'm concerned that another issue may occur. I immediately took my car in to the shop and they were unable to replicate the issue. Spark plugs, oil, transmission fluid and coolant fluids were all as regular maintenance but no real issue was addressed. My car has also had issues with struggling to accelerate from stop, causing jerking motion and my oil seems to be burning faster than usual.

My 2016 Hyundai Tucson has had power and acceleration issues since I purchased it brand new in 2016 from the dealership. When trying to accelerate onto the freeway, or trying to turn onto busy traffic the engine would rev but not pick up speed causing a dangerous situation when traffic is present. I have had all the updates to my vehicle, but the issue did not improve. At first I thought it had something to do with the transmission, but recently I have discovered that it was probably something wrong with the engine all this time. I currently have 111,070 miles on my vehicle, and I have kept up with routine maintenance. I had noticed in the last couple of years that my engine oil was burning at an extremely high rate, and I had to keep replenishing it between oil changes. I never saw any oil leaking on the ground though. About a month ago while I was entering a freeway, my check engine light started flashing and I could not accelerate. The vehicle’s engine started misfiring and the vehicle was having a hard time switching gears. Fortunately it was early in the morning before rush hour traffic otherwise I would have been hit by oncoming traffic. I had the codes read and they came back as P0300, P0302, and P0304. I had already had the spark plugs replaced less than 10,000 miles prior to this, so we tried changing the ignition coils. That did not help, so we changed the spark plugs too. This still did not solve the problem. A mechanic ran a compression test and determined there is a problem with the engine. I have read numerous other complaints online now about similar issues with the 2016 Hyundai Tucson engine failure with less than 150,000 miles that put people in harms way while driving down the road. The engine failure is occurring even with regular maintenance.

The car experienced a red, blinking check engine light. We had the car towed to the local Hyundai dealership. Please see attached document for the work that was done. This was in November 2023, and we just now had to have the car towed to the dealership again (April 2024).

I was driving on the highway when the engine would not accelerate. I was stuck in a high speed lane and drivers were on my rear bumper. I could not move over and felt helpless. I pulled off at the next exit and the vehicle was sputtering. I made it home at reduced speed. The vehicle would not start the next morning. I had it towed to the nearest dealership. I was contacted days later and informed that the is a bulletin about power loss due to faulty fuel injectors. Many complaint sites are full of the same problems. I now feel unsafe driving the vehicle on trips. I don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere. I am a female senior citizen.

I was driving on the road way and the entire engine seized. I had to glide over to the side of the roadway and call AAA. I called Route 1 Hyundai, where the car was originally bought, 7324126502 brand new in 2012. and they told me no warranty on vehical. I had vehical towed to a mechanic in Hightstown, NJ and they told me to check that he just put in a new engine in the same car covered under a class action lawsuit for the same problem. I called the dealership service manager William, and they told me that they are not willing to do anything. I am the original owner and what happened was very dangerous and I could have lost my life! I usually drive on highway going 65mph. This could have been a catastrophe with no warning!!

On two occasions, immediately after startup, the vehicle has experienced vastly diminished power. Once in November 2023 and once on [XXX]. Both instances were identical. Vehicle could barely move from a stop, even at full throttle. Speed above 25 mph could not be achieved. RPMs exceeded 4500. Vehicle did not stall. No dash lights, warnings or chimes were triggered. Upon shutdown and restart, problem disappeared. Source of failure is unknown. Upon notification, dealer (Gossett, Memphis TN) offered a diagnostic service for $100 with a two month wait for available appointment. Vehicle has had no other issues. Vehicle is accident-free. Vehicle is unmodified and has received no service beyond scheduled oil changes. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that heavy, black smoke would emit from the tailpipe upon the start of the vehicle without warning. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the contact discovered that the oil level was low. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed, and the diagnostic test showed that the vehicle was consuming excessive amounts of engine oil. The contact was informed to bring the vehicle back to the dealer every 1,000 miles to track the oil consumption. The oil gasket, oil filter, and oil pan were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000

- #11582183April 10, 2024ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
NHTSA Complaint On Sunday, March 10th 2024 our 2022 Hyundai Tucson with 2.5L engine started missing in one of the cylinders. It did not disable the vehicle and it ran like that for several blocks until we could pullover to safety. At this time there were no warning lights of any kind. It wasn’t until I turned the car off, checked the oil (which was good), started the car again and did a lap around the parking lot that the check engine light came on. So there were no warnings. We dropped the car off at our local Hyundai service center that night so it could be checked first thing the next day. It turned out that it was a bad spark plug and injector. At that point it was no big deal. We chalked it up to a fluke. We received the car back on Thursday, March 14th with the explanation of what happened and that it was replaced under warranty. There were NO RECOMMENDATIONS made upon pick up. Exactly 2 weeks later on Thursday, March 28th, the car lost all power while traveling 60mph in the middle lane of the interstate. Again, there were no warning or diagnostic lights coming on. It was pure luck that there was minimal traffic and other drivers were paying attention as the car came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway in order to be restarted and it refused to accelerate above 20mph in order to limp to the shoulder and get to safety. Over an hour later and stopping and starting the car in a parking lot, the check engine light finally came on. The engine was running worse this time. The car had to be towed this time to the service center. After being checked out it was another spark plug and a fouled fuel injector. Researching online showed that this is a very common issue with Hyundai fuel injectors between 12,000 and 25,000 miles. There are currently no technical service bulletins or recalls warning owners of this common failure and potentially losing power traveling at high speeds. Research showed there have been 3 collisions caused by this exact issue to date.

This is a complaint related to the status of Hyundai's recall 251. The recall has gone on for months without a resolution, and puts me and my passengers at risk should there be a fire. On April 4, 2024, I received an email notice from Stafford Brown Hyundai that indicated a fix was ready for my car. I made an appointment to complete the fix, scheduled for Tuesday April 9. Two hours after dropping off my car, I received a phone call from Stafford Brown Hyundai indicating the fix was still not available for my car. They did not know when it would be available. This recall has gone on for an unacceptable length with no fix available. The risk to myself, my passengers, and my property is high. A resolution needs to be implemented now. Furthermore, Hyundai needs better management of how they communicate information to their dealers and car owners in regards to this recall, so as not to send inaccurate updates and create confusion.
