While stopped at a red traffic light after taking a freeway exit with one foot on the brake, my 2020 Honda Pilot engaged in auto stop (auto idle stop). When the traffic light turned green, I took my foot off of the brake, the vehicle attempted to start but stalled with the electrical components still on (dashboard indicators and ventilation still on). I stepped on the brake and attempted to put the vehicle in park, but noticed the vehicle would not shift out of neutral. I pressed the start/stop button (ignition) and the dashboard indicators flashed but the engine did not start until the second attempt. Somewhere in between, I pressed the emergency lights to indicate to drivers behind me of an issue. About 15-20 seconds had lapsed during my troubleshooting attempt. Prior to this event, there were at least 8 individual events where when the auto start/stop was engaged and disengaged, the dashboard would flash warning signals for a fraction of a second with an audible warning sound. Dashboard warnings flashed on and off too quickly to clearly see what was being displayed. A short delay in restarting the vehicle from idle stop would occur, about 1-2 seconds but the car would then proceed and run as usual.

- #11591402May 29, 2024BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The MOST communication cable connector recall causes the rear view camera to die early due to excess electrical noise going through the wire. There are many reports of the rear view cameras dying quickly due to the electrical issue of the MOST cable. The recall needs to cover the camera as well as the cable connectors, as they suffer damage as a result of the poor connection. My camera is still broken after the recall work was completed.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V431000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the contact was concerned the replacement of the rear-view camera was not included in the recall. The contact stated that while attempting to park, there was an abnormal sound followed by the rear camera failing to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an update; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

We noticed the engine making an unusual sound, so we took the vehicle into the Honda dealership service department. The engine tech used a borescope which showed damage to the cam shaft. The tech then determined the knocking sound was caused by a rod knock. The service advisor recommended replacing the engine with a remanufactured engine. The cause of this issue is unknown, although we are suspecting 23V-751. There have been no lights or codes that indicated any engine issues. This vehicle has 125,000 miles on it, and has been meticulously maintained at the local Honda dealership for that entire time.

- #11591035May 28, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My 2018 Honda Pilot has a fuel injector recall. Per Honda, "Safety Consequence: An inoperable fuel pump could prevent an engine from starting, cause a vehicle to lose drive power, or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury." - My car is hesitating with acceleration at low (20-25mph) along with (45-55mph). The RPMs do not stay steady and the car is hesitating to shift into gear. - I called Westbrook Honda, Westbrook, CT on [XXX] to inquire and was told I would know if the car was part of the recall because it will stall. - Unsatisfied, I took my car to Brandfon Honda, Branford, CT for diagnosis on [XXX] and was told by service that if it's an issue they will prioritize it since the part will not be available until Fall 2024. Brandfon Honda is advising 4 other recommendations to see if it will fix the problem versus addressing the fuel injector recall which points to what is the issue with the car (as advised by my independent auto shop) INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11591124May 28, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Car brake warning pops up on dashboard when there is no object directly in front of the car. This occurs when there is oncoming traffic in another lane and it has happened when I am going over train tracks. It's as if the concrete curb is in front of me. My car has never stopped abruptly. This has happened over the last few years. I was unaware to report it. I did bring it up to the dealer but they didn't seem to understand.

Car abrupt stopped working while driving. All the lights on dashboard popped up with emissions warning on dashboard. The car was unable to start. Luckily for me I was in the neighborhood. This would have been very dangerous if I was on a highway or busy road. I had my children in the car. My vehicle was towed to the dealer who inspected it and said that my fuel pump needs to be replaced. A week prior the blind spot, emissions and transmissions light popped up and the car was semi drivable for me to make it to the dealer. I was told that it was my oil pressure switch that needed to be replaced just for my car to die 5 days later

All electrical systems failed at once due to a malfunction in the front camera-sudden failure with no damage to the vehicle physically. Honda refuses to fix or honor the issue. A recall should be required due to the vast amounts of complaints on the same issues. This should not be a financial responsibility on the owner.

Auto start stop feature did not restart engine after I stopped in traffic ahead of me on [XXX] in New Hyde Park. This has happened twice to me and a few times to my wife although she did not report them through this site. All this is after I had reported earlier the same incidents and Honda diagnosed it to the battery needing replacement after 2 years. There is a problem with this feature and NHTSA SHOULD ACT. My Honda Pilot has, on multiple occasions, just died after the auto engine idle stop engaged. I have had to put my vehicle back in park, restart it, immediately disable the auto idle stop and put it back in drive. On several other occasions it has also said "engine idle stop system unavailable". Even with that useless feature disabled my car will hesitate and kinda sputter when I stop at red lights. It's dangerous. I just bought this car from the Toyota Dealership in my area so I shouldn't be having these issues. There's less than 28,000 miles on it, I shouldn't be having any issues whatsoever.

- #11590771May 25, 2024WHEELS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
On May 4, 2024, normal driving conditions, experienced what felt like a loss of power. Warning on dashboard says All Wheel Drive System Problem, Only Front Wheels May Be Powered. See Dealer. Pulled car over to side of road and turned engine off. Turned back on and warning was gone. Occurred again today May 25, 2024 while driving on freeway. Loss of power and same warning message displayed. I do not feel at all safe in this vehicle. I drove straight to dealership for service to look at it. Hopefully have some answers after the holiday weekend. Just purchased vehicle in August 2023 brand new. Honda Pilot Elite. Starting to think I got a lemon.

- #11590277May 23, 2024POWER TRAIN, ENGINE
My spouse was stopped at a traffic light, when the light turned green she accelerated but immediately lost power and the vehicle was stalled in the middle of the intersection. She tried to start it but would not restart. We had to leave the car in the intersection while waiting for the police and towing. She worried that a vehicle would collide with our vehicle and until she was able to exit the vehicle and move to a nearby sidewalk.. Luckily she made it safely and no-one collided with the car. We had it towed to our local mechanic. The inspected the car and found that the bearing had seized up the crankshaft. I connected with Honda and they told me to take it to a local dealer to have it inspected by them. The dealer had the vehicle for two weeks and came up with the same conclusion. After a little back and forth with Honda they declined to give any help with fixing the engine, (a $20,000 repair estimate). I ended up selling the car for junk. Two weeks later a friend sent me an article that Honda was recalling 2016 Pilots for the same incident that happened to my car. There were no warnings prior to the engine failure. My vehicle is not listed on the recall. Honda knew the problem and was attempting to issue a recall.
