- #11626703November 21, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
Just started, while driving in high winds: electrical power steering problem, vehicle stability assist problem, hill start assist problem, trailer stability assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, emissions system problem. Brake system warning light is also on. I don’t have a towing system installed- so that’s odd to get a warning for trailer stability. I had an oil change @ 101076 miles, on 19 November 2024, and my tires were rotated at that time. This issue repeated itself today, 21 November 2024.

- #11626744November 21, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My car hesitates during acceleration, I received the recall for the fuel pump in February, called the dealer, they say they do not have parts, I called again in early November, and they say the same thing. I am afraid the pump isa going to go out when we are driving in Traffic, so I do not trust the vehicle. I can take the car to any repair shop and they will replace it in a day. Why can't the dealer replace it? They are slow-walking this recall while we take the risk. What can I do?

My Auntie was on her way to a sports game driving about 70 MPH when she heard a loud bang then sounded like metal in a blender and chirping. After that the engine had no power what so ever luckily she was going down hill carrying enough speed to safely move to the shoulder cause before hand she was going over an under pass and there’s nothing but the barrier so she couldn’t move over till the top of the hill. If that engine had locked up completely she could have been killed at worst. The thing is that we took the vehicle to Honda 2 weeks prior to see if the vehicle was affected by the bearing recall and they said no the best they could do is give me honda corporate phone number to make a complaint which we did. I’ve also read online about fellow honda owners having these engines failing and not being covered which is a $6000 dollar job that’s half the vehicle's price which is insane that is what the mechanic quoted us to replace the engine. She still has the vehicle parked cause the repair is expensive. So these v6 engine have to be looked into cause so many families could get hurt.

On May 1, 2022, While driving on the thruway, numerous alert lights lit up on the dashboard. The engine began to knock and thump and lost power. I coasted through traffic to the side of the thruway and shut the engine off (dangerous). Upon restarting the knocking noise restarted and I shut it down and had it towed to the Honda dealership. Diagnosis: Blown engine. I had the tech disassemble the engine to determine cause, which was identified as the "number 1 connecting rod wore journal on side of crank". Pieces of the engine internals were found in the oil drip pan. Since then, I have read of: Honda is recalling certain 2016-2022 Acura MDX, 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2018-19 Honda Odyssey, 2016 and 2018-19 Honda Pilot, and 2017 and 2019 Honda Ridgeline models. These vehicles all use the same 3.5L engine. My Pilots model was excluded from this recall. In a recent USA today article it was stated that NHTSA was investigating years excluded from this recall. The investigation announcement into the 1.4 million vehicles says that the safety administration received 173 complaints from drivers whose cars were not included in the recall.

When shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the motor dips in RPM's then speeds up quickly. I now have 5000 miles on the vehicle and it is still happening. It's a safety hazard that the Honda Service Dept says is normal. On many quorum's, many people are complaining about the same problem. My local mechanic says that the electronic sequence of the transmission needs refreshed but has to wait for a Honda Repair Directive. Others have said that this issue is in one in three Honda Pilots with 10 speed transmissions.

While driving home from a church event, I got a “Internal control module torque calculation” error on my dash. I pulled over to the curb and as soon as I stopped, more error messages appeared. Failure Brake System, Failure Anti-lock Brake System, Failure Hill Start Assist, Failure Adaptive Failure Cruise Control, Failure Lane Keep Assist, Failure Collision Mitigation, Failure Breaking System, Failure Road Departure Mitigation System, Failure Low Speed Braking, Failure Auto High Beam, Failure Parking Sensor, the check engine light was on and no AWD only FWD. I shut the car off and restarted it only to have all of the error messages reappear. I used my scan tool to clear the codes and drove it home. The next day, while driving my daughter home from school, the car shifted into neutral on its own then when the vehicle came to a stop it shifted into park and stalled and there was a transmission error on the dash. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership which reported 2 pages of error codes. The dealership reported that there was an issue with the gear selector unit due to liquid intrusion. They changed out the gear selector unit which at the moment seems to have rectified the problem.

The vehicle had an engine bearing rod failure but was not included in the 23V-751 recall. The repair is covered under warranty but because there is no recall, I have to pay for car rental myself and the repair could take weeks to months.

In my 2015 pilot I have rod bearing connector that failed,The report says that the engine in all vehicles is the 3.5L V6 that was popular from 2016 through 2020. However , my engine is a 3.5L V6 as well, and it has the same issue. The car has 162K .

While driving a 2016 Honda Pilot, the vehicle began to lurch, and engine failed by what appears to be rod(s) failing within the engine, penetrating the engine casing leaving a large hole in the casing. The RPMs went fully to the right before the engine seized. The hood smoked significantly, likely due to oil through the hole in engine. Luckily the driver was in the right lane of a 3-lane interstate, and was able to pull over to the shoulder and exited the vehicle on foot as the cabin began to fill with smoke. The Pilot was towed to a Honda dealership that night and repairs were assessed in the morning. The technician took photos and a video of his findings. He noticed oil leaking from the engine block and ran a scope up and he observed and documented a very large hole in the engine casing with metal appearing to fold outward, an indication of impact from inside the engine, likely from a rod failure. The engine was seized and could not be cranked by hand. The repair would require using a used engine block and rebuilding the engine. The cost of the repair was significant and so we sold the Honda Pilot to the Honda acquisition team. The fair market value for this Honda Pilot was noted as $16,916 via KBB.com as run by Honda based on the VIN# and mileage. Due to the damage, the price of the vehicle offered to us was only $2,500 (a $14,416 loss in value). We assumed this was a very rare incident, however the very next week we saw an article that NHTSA was investigating Honda for this exact issue. A recall was issued for model another model year, but the recall did not include the 2016 model year. The particular investigation is NHTSA RQ24013. In our instance, there were no warning lamps and our oil changes were current. There was an ongoing vibration issue we first observed at around 6000 miles that we correlated with specific RPMs and documented. To our frustration, Honda service never was able to find and fix the issue and we lived with this issue until the failure.
