Sticky steering while driving. It makes it difficult to maintain a straight line when making small corrections to maintain a straight line. Any small steering corrections/ inputs are met with a sticky feel in the steering and causes an over correction, making it difficult to maintain a smooth straight line. This problem had occurred once in the past and repaired by the dealer stating that there have been recalls for later year models.

Sticky steering wheel at high speeds after driving for a while. The steering wheel will stick in a spot and I have to use a little extra force to move the steering wheel.

The steering wheel is “sticky” and has to be hand corrected at certain angles. Once you steer too far left or right, it gets stuck in that position

Issue has not been looked at by the dealer or a mechanic. Reporting "Sticky Steering" with some observations and would like to be an example or participant in finding the root cause. Current milage is about 12,000. Issue began around the 7-8,000 mile range. Notice that the steering, as you make minor adjustments while driving to stay centered in lane it takes more effort to move the steering wheel slightly but then gives and sometimes the car overcorrects. Occurs at any speed on the road, typically more pronounced, or much more concerning on rainy days in traffic, especially tight lanes, rain and fast moving tractor trailers encroaching on the line. Observation recently (because my radio was off and the car was very quiet) I noticed that even sitting at a traffic light, you can hear the give, or release at the "sticky" point. Makes me think it should be fixable or fairly easy to identify.

Vehicle has "sticky / notchy" steering when driving above 40mph, issue worsens with higher speed. Any minor adjustment make to the steering just to stay in the lane, steering gets very tight and when extra force is applied to move steering wheel it then releases and causes overcorrection. Issue especially dangerous when going around a long sweeping turn or corner, steering will get so tight the steering wheel gets stuck, to the degree that you can let your hand off the steering wheel entirely and the wheel stays in the turned position on its own. Tightness progressively getting worse over time.

In April of 2023 I reported to Honda corporate and a local dealership that I was having an issue with “sticky” steering. I took it to the dealer, and was told there were no recalls, and that they couldn’t replicate the problem. I just left it to even though I could still feel it. Now, as of March 2024 it has started again as soon as the weather starts to get warmer. Once you feel it it’s very obvious that it’s happening. It’s when you make small adjustments on the highway to stay in the lane and when the weather is warmer. There is a distinct point where you feel resistance moving the wheel. Almost like the power steering is failing for a brief second. Based on the amount of reports of this Honda has to know this was a flaw in design yet refuses to fix it.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver's side air bag warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was acquired and equipped with air bags. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently and now the warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was scheduled for a service appointment in several days. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

I recently purchased a 22' civic EX used less then a week ago and noticed the steering wheel acting almost as if its sticking/catching when driving 45-50mph+ and doesnt want to correct unless you pull/yank to get out of turn. Ive also noticed having to make many small corrections while driving even in a straight line like it wants to veer due to the constant jerkiness almost like an alignment issue but tighter. It is a safety concern especially with how hard it can be to correct; even worse on the interstate at higher rates of speed and more traffic. Issue seems to gradually get worse, the warmer the car is. Took car in to Music city Honda to be inspected, they test drove and noticed issue. Was unwilling to fix bc my car is just outside of warranty. Manufacturering errors/issue should be fixed free of charge!! Told me it would cost $3200 roughly to repair! The car was purchased from dealer with the issue! Called Honda Corporate to file complaint, and now filing here. This is really an unacceptable issue!

When traveling at highway speeds the steering is starting to feel "sticky". Making small adjustments to keep the car driving straight are starting to require more force leading to slight oversteering.

Having to adjust the wheel to maintain a straight path while driving. - Steering resistance for minor adjustments while driving at highway speeds. - The wheel sticks, causing the driver to need more force than usual to turn When more force is applied to break the wheel free from its stick, the car may overcompensate in that direction - When turning, the wheel will maintain its position, not slide back to center, if hands are removed from the steering wheel

Sticky steering wheel causes difficulty in steering. Car requires adjustment constantly to keep it straight and the steering wheel is hard to adjust. Took it to dealership and they say it isn’t part of the recall but it’s not smooth when turning.

Steering switches from stiff to loose while driving causing the vehicle to jerk when that occurs. This occurs at all speeds. Honda Service says the issue is related to the EPS and that it must be replaced. This is an issue affecting many Civic owners that Honda is not taking responsibility to fix. This is a safety hazard.

Subject: Formal Complaint - Premature AC Evaporator Failure in 2019 Honda Civic Vehicles National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE Washington, DC 20590 Dear NHTSA, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the premature failure of the air conditioning (A/C) evaporator in my 2019 Honda Civic EX. The substantial repair cost, exceeding $2,100, leaves me deeply concerned about a potentially widespread defect within this model's A/C system. My dealership informed me that other crucial A/C components, such as the condenser and compressor, are covered by an extended 10-year warranty. However, the evaporator, is not. This disparity in coverage seems unjustified, given the significant number of similar complaints I have found online. A discussion thread [XXX] {Honda forum} ) features numerous Honda owners reporting evaporator failures, with a Honda mechanic's post highlighting the issue's frequency. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation of Honda's renowned reliability. I face significant financial hardship within a year of purchase. A previous substantial engine wiring repair further burdened my situation, even leading to my full coverage insurance being dropped. Now, facing the steep cost of the evaporator repair, I am left with expensive liability-only insurance. Based on my experience, the widespread online reports, and the extended warranties on other A/C components, I have strong reason to believe that this model's A/C system is inherently faulty. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and consider the potential need for a recall or extended warranty coverage for the A/C evaporator to protect other Honda owners from similar unexpected expenses. I have attached the repair estimate for your reference. Thank you for your attention and dedication to vehicle safety. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Steering is best described as “notchy” or “sticky,” it feels stiff. Minor wheel corrections on the highway cause the car to overcorrect and overcompensate steering. Small adjustments made while driving do not feel smooth.

Steering is "sticky" at higher speeds, taking more force than usual to turn or make adjustments. During these situations the steering wheel also does not return to center by itself when completing the turn. There is also a "knocking"/"clunking" noise when turning the steering wheel while stationary or at low speeds. Vehicle mileage was at around 25,000 miles when the problem was detected.

The steering mechanism of my vehicle exhibits noticeable resistance (stickiness), necessitating constant, minor adjustments to stay centered in my lane, particularly when traveling at speeds over 40 mph. This condition is a significant safety risk, as it could lead to excessive steering correction during emergency situations at highway speeds, which might cause a loss of control over the vehicle. Although I have reported this issue to the dealership and told them about the TSB 23-037 issued by honda, they have concluded that there is no recall with the vehicle and want to charge me a diagnostic fees and keep the vehicle with them for multiple days. The vehicle is in warranty. I contest their evaluation, believing that the problem has not been adequately addressed.

I took my car in because the steering wheel feels like it gets stuck and starts shifting my car to the left. I have to turn the “sticky” wheel until it snaps back from shifting. I had scheduled a service because it felt very unsafe and then the day before I took it in, I noticed there was a recall. However, when I mentioned it to the tech he said that the recall didn’t affect my car and that everything was good. I took it to another service center where they found the issues- steering rack issue. BUT NOW the parts on back order and it’s progressively getting worse! It feels safe to drive and that’s the only mode of transportation I have!
