Owners of certain 2025 Audi A5 and Q5 models may notice an issue where the on-board computer displays implausibly high average fuel consumption. This condition typically appears after the vehicle has accumulated at least 2,668 miles.

The implausibly high average consumption, such as readings of "8 gal./62 miles" or "26 gal./62 miles," suddenly appears in the on-board computer's long-term memory. This happens after the ignition (terminal 15) is switched off and then on again. While driving, the displayed average consumption may decrease, it often remains significantly higher than actual fuel usage. It's important to note that the short-term memory of the on-board computer is not affected by this issue, as it automatically resets itself after the vehicle has been stationary for two hours.

Technical Details

This issue, identified by Audi TSB 2078354/1, stems from a software problem within the HCP3 (high-performance computing platform), specifically affecting cluster 3. The manufacturer has developed an optimized software, version 4361, which has already been implemented in production vehicles.

For affected vehicles, a permanent solution is anticipated to be available by the end of the fourth quarter of 2025. Until then, no repairs are currently necessary to address the 2025 Audi A5 high average consumption problem.

Audi has issued specific guidance regarding this issue:

• "Do not replace any components for this condition since this will not resolve the customer's concern." This means that replacing parts like sensors or other modules will not fix the implausibly high average consumption reading and should be avoided.
• For vehicles still within the new model launch repair authorization period, workshops must create a case with the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) per the repair authorization. The vehicle must also be entered into the PSS database, and TSB 2078354/1 should be referenced in the first line of the TAC case.
