Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport and 2023-2024 ID.4 vehicles. Certain bolts on the chassis, brake system and/or suspension (such as bolts for certain cross member, engine mount, control arm, subframe, rear brake carrier, etc.) of affected vehicles may not have been correctly tightened during the manufacturing process.
This has happened twice in the past 10 days. The vehicle gear selector freezes and cannot be put in D, B, P, N, etc. The only way out of the situation is to get out of the vehicle, get back in, close the door and put the foot on the break pedal. Here is how this is extremely dangerous. In one case, I had backed up out of the driveway to get in the street to leave. Freezing of the gear selector occurred while I was halfway in the street in the path of the traffic. I could have been hit by oncoming traffic. Luckily, it was not a busy road, and only one vehicle came by and stopped safely. In the other instance, it occurred in a shopping center parking lot.

The exterior handle on the driver’s door of my 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 has failed. I live in [XXX]. And on the first day of rain this season, it stopped opening the door from the outside completely. The other doors work normally. I have to enter through the passenger door and open the driver’s door from inside. The failure started when it rained, so water likely got into the handle electronics. This looks like the same problem covered by Volkswagen recall 57J9, which included 2024 ID.4 models. Either the recall repair did not fix it on my car, or my car was missed. This is a safety concern: in an emergency, the driver’s door could not be opened from outside to help the driver. I am reporting recurring drive system and electrical system problems with my leased 2024 Volkswagen ID.4. This is the fourth occurrence of vehicle problems in less than two years, despite previous dealership repairs. On [XXX], after approximately nine months without problems, the vehicle again displayed fault warnings. The Volkswagen app’s Powertrain diagnostic section states: “Error: Drive system. Please service vehicle” and “Electrical system not working correctly. Please service vehicle.” The cause of this latest occurrence has not yet been diagnosed. I plan to take the vehicle to the dealership during the coming week. My safety concern is based on previous incidents involving unexpected shutdowns while driving. During one incident last year, I was traveling approximately 40 mph with my family when the vehicle suddenly jerked violently and came to a complete stop in the roadway. A battery overheating warning appeared during that incident. The vehicle subsequently remained at AutoNation Volkswagen in Buford, Georgia, for nearly a month for repairs. An earlier shutdown also required towing. The return of drive system and electrical warnings after previous repairs raises serious concerns about another unexpected loss of propulsion or sudden stop in traffic, which could result in a collision and endanger my family and other road users. I have videos, photographs, previous correspondence with Volkswagen, and repair records available to support this complaint. I have requested that Volkswagen reopen my previous case. I am asking NHTSA to review these recurring safety concerns. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The central display of this 2024 VW Id.4 on random drives will refuse to light up. The following features are no longer able to be used: parking sensors (they don't show up when put into reverse), ac controls (no way to manage fan speed or turn on and off, no defrost), ADAS systems (no way to change any settings), no warnings prior to entry or exiting the vehicle (no chime). Dealership says they were unable to replicate the issue and the car issued no codes. Since then there are 5 different records showing with time stamp video showing the vehicle exhibiting the exact same faults. The car completed all safety recalls and there are no messages or warnings on the dash.

Dealer canceled my scheduled recall service twice arguing backlog. Indicated they have no solution but did not provide any alternative arrangements. I have been waiting for my car to be serviced to fix urgent safety recall regarding potential fire from EV battery. This is a severe hazard.
