On [XXX], I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Tucson from DriveTime, located at 6400 Pensacola Boulevard, Pensacola, FL 32505. Within approximately nine days of purchase, the vehicle began experiencing serious mechanical problems, raising significant concerns about its safety and roadworthiness. On [XXX], the vehicle suffered a severe loss of acceleration and was unable to exceed approximately 30 mph. This sudden reduction in engine performance created a dangerous situation while driving, particularly when attempting to maintain normal traffic speeds. Following these issues, mechanical inspections revealed water inside the spark plug wells, a severely rusted ignition coil, and a failing catalytic converter. Firestone estimated the catalytic converter repair at approximately $5,000. The presence of water and corrosion raised concerns about possible pre-existing damage and whether the vehicle had been properly inspected before being sold. The vehicle remained in repair-related custody for approximately 29 days. Despite repeated communications with DriveTime, the mechanical problems were not satisfactorily resolved. DriveTime representatives informed me that a replacement vehicle had been approved. On [XXX], I returned to the dealership expecting a replacement but was informed that no suitable vehicle was available. I was left without transportation, and the dealership failed to provide a satisfactory resolution. As of October 21, 2026, I remain without a vehicle. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the sudden loss of engine power, possible electrical or ignition system damage caused by moisture intrusion, and any similar safety complaints involving the 2017 Hyundai Tucson. My primary concern is that these mechanical failures could cause another driver to experience a dangerous loss of power while operating the vehicle, potentially resulting in a serious collision. The vehicle was already running and in Drive. When I pressed the accelerator pedal to accelerate further, the vehicle would not accelerate. The RPMs did not increase and vehicle did not respond. No warning lights appeared. I had to press hazard lights coast to shoulder and turn vehicle off and on to regain power]. This created a hazardous situation as traffic was behind me and could not anticipate my sudden loss of speed. We just got this vehicle on October 1, 2026 and vehicle has been maintained per schedule. This was the first time it happened. I am concerned this is related to recall affecting 2023 Tucson models, and request investigation as this is a safety defect that can occur without warning at highway speed.

Suspect faulty TCU or associated software: My 2026 Tucson Hybrid, purchased in February, has an intermittent “Shift-by-Wire (SBW)” fault where the car refuses to shift into gear (e.g., Reverse) and displays “The car is already in the desired gear” warning on dashboard and the Check Engine light comes On. Retrying (turn car off, wait a while and restart) generally resolves the immediate issue and the Check Engine light turns Off. However, I don’t feel safe driving the car until a definitive warranty repair can be done. So, I had it towed to the dealer. The dealer showed me screen shots of their initial scan indicating No DTC codes were found, that they could not duplicate the problem, and I could pick the car up. If the Check Engine light came on there should be a DTC code stored in non-volatile memory, right? I asked the dealer to keep the car and have a technician drive it until they duplicate and fix the problem. They agreed but I have evidence that indicates the car is not being driven. I filed a formal consumer complaint with Hyundai Corporate Customer Care and received a Case Number (43328121) but no other communication in the weeks since.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2024 Hyundai Tucson N Line Hybrid (VIN: [XXX]), purchased as a Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned vehicle from Balise Hyundai in XXX. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced a persistent grinding noise that continued despite multiple dealership visits. Initially, I was told a pebble lodged in the rotor was causing the noise. Further evaluation by the dealership’s General Manager and Service Manager led to additional investigation and proposed repairs. On XXX, I was informed that a factory-welded nut was not attached to anything on the vehicle’s floor support structure. The dealership advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and had to be moved to the collision department for further assessment. On XXX, the Service Manager informed me that the proposed repair would require removal and replacement of the entire floor pan. This raises serious concerns about a potential manufacturing or assembly defect in a structural component of the vehicle. My primary safety concerns include: An apparent factory-related defect involving an unattached welded nut on the floor support structure. The dealership’s determination that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Potential risks to structural integrity, crashworthiness, and occupant protection. The need for extensive structural repairs on a relatively new vehicle. Whether similar defects may exist in other vehicles of the same make and model. The persistent grinding noise and multiple service visits preceded the discovery of this structural issue. I am concerned that this defect may have safety implications beyond my individual vehicle. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this condition, determine its potential safety implications, and assess whether similar manufacturing or assembly defects may affect other vehicles. Dealership service records and documentation of the diagnosis are available. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Back up camera intermittently doesn’t work. Car can have sat in driveway or been driven, either one, and the cameras will randomly not work and then work again for no apparent reason. Green screen saying that camera not available now and check again later, or words to that effect. This is not one incident, has happened many times. Each time I've tried to take it to the dealer it works when I'm there so they can't troubleshoot it. I consider this a major safety issue that needs an official recall and fix from hyundai

NHTSA Safety Complaint – 2019 Hyundai Tucson Engine Failure I am reporting a serious engine safety concern involving my 2019 Hyundai Tucson AWD 2.0L (VIN: [XXX]). On XXX, the red engine oil-pressure warning light suddenly illuminated while I was preparing to drive home. Concerned about possible engine failure, I stopped using the vehicle and had it towed to Pohanka Hyundai in [XXX]. On XXX, the dealership provided a diagnostic video indicating that the engine was defective and needed replacement. A written estimate dated XXX quoted $7,823.58 for an engine replacement. Despite this diagnosis, the dealership later declared the vehicle drivable and returned it after adding oil, without providing a satisfactory explanation for reversing its original findings. The engine problems continued, and the vehicle had to be returned to the dealership. This presents a serious potential safety hazard. An unresolved engine or oil-pressure problem could cause sudden engine failure, loss of propulsion, or a breakdown while driving on a highway or in heavy traffic, increasing the risk of a collision and injuries to occupants and other motorists. I am particularly concerned that a vehicle initially diagnosed as needing engine replacement was subsequently declared safe to drive without documented evidence that the underlying problem had been corrected. I request that NHTSA investigate whether this engine failure represents a broader safety defect affecting 2019 Hyundai Tucson vehicles and whether additional safety measures, including a recall investigation, are warranted. Vehicle: 2019 Hyundai Tucson AWD 2.0L VIN: [XXX] Mileage at diagnosis: Approximately 87,656 miles Incident Date: XXX INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The HUD will disappear and warning lights will flash on the dashboard. It lasts for about five seconds. Sometimes it happens a few times in a row and then it might not occur again for a couple of days. This problem is covered by NHTSA Campaign 26V400 and I had the car's software updated at the dealership in July as per Hyundai Recall 304. However, the problem persists. Hyundai issued TSB 24-BE-007H-1 and has provided tools to dealers to fix the issue, but the dealer is refusing to perform the repair saying that it isn't covered by Hyundai.

I am submitting this complaint to report a potential safety concern involving the Forward Safety (Collision-Avoidance) System and Smart Cruise Control System in my Hyundai vehicle. I am concerned that these warnings may indicate a problem with safety-related driver-assistance systems, and I want to bring this issue to NHTSA's attention so it can be evaluated for potential risks to other vehicle owners. Vehicle and diagnostic information as - Make: Hyundai - Model: Hyundai Tucson SEL FWD - Model year: 2024 - Purchase date: March 2024 - Odometer reading: 24,359 miles - Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC): C174181 - System identified in Bluelink: Chassis - Date the code originated: October 13, 2026 Description of the problem My vehicle's dashboard displayed the following warning messages: - Check Forward Safety System (Collision-Avoidance System) - Check Smart Cruise Control System On my Hyundai Bluelink account also displayed an “Attention Needed” notification identifying one chassis diagnostic trouble code, C174181, originating on October 13, 2026. These warnings concern systems intended to assist with collision avoidance and vehicle following distance. I am concerned that their malfunction or unavailability could reduce the vehicle's driver-assistance capabilities and potentially create a safety risk while driving. I am reporting the symptoms and diagnostic code for NHTSA's evaluation; I do not yet know the underlying technical cause. My primary concern in filing this report is vehicle safety. I request that NHTSA record and evaluate this complaint and determine whether similar reports involving Hyundai vehicles indicate a potential safety-related defect that warrants further investigation. I am submitting this information to help identify any possible recurring problem that could affect other drivers, passengers, and road users. I can provide screenshots from Bluelink, warning-message photographs, repair orders and additional diagnostic information if needed. Thanks

Excessive oil consumption. Mileage is 116.7K miles. Over 4 quarts used in approximately 3,500 miles. Car went into "limp" mode with no power. Top speed on level ground was 45 mph, on a hill 25 mph. Had to pull over to the side of the road so that other cars could pass. Drove to mechanic who saw about 1 quart remained in the car. Oil light didn't go on. Service engine light flashed when the car went into "limp" mode.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled and was unable to exceed 30 MPH. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the shoulder of the road, and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and oil contaminated the catalytic converter, causing the catalytic converter to fail and require replacement. The transmission was repaired by the dealer, and the catalytic converter was replaced by an independent repair facility. The contact subsequently observed continued oil loss following the repairs. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the exhaust manifold headers failed and required replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact requested and received a complete diagnostic report from the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 90,502.

Warning lamp included oil for several months prior. I added oil often. No oil was ever seen under car or leaking in any way. Car had been serviced several times during the oil warning lamp warning. Nothing was ever found. I continued adding oil on a regular basis. Engine completely stopped in the middle of a busy street.
