My 2017 Hyundai sonata burns oil rapidly, almost 400 miles it burns 5 quarts of oil. The engine stalls randomly and beings to mis fire. The car has stalled on me in the middle of the road with no check engine light or indicator that a problem is present. I have had to change spark plugs and coils far to offen and every time I have to pay the mechanical shop. There is a recall on the hybrids sonatas but not the gas ones. The dealer acknowledges that the car burns oil allot. Which I’ve been told it can lead to engine failure I have done everything possible. And I’ve spoke to other owners and I’m not alone. The vehicle hasn’t been inspected by others such as police. No warning lights appear

I see that the recall notice was issued in September of 2023 but I have to say that for no recall remedy to be available yet is disheartening. I drive my car every day and it is the only car I have, because of that I risk my life everyday. My car loses power because of this recall daily and it ranges from 3-6 times a day. I lose power on the highway, the main roads and back roads, it does not matter the speed or time of day. I would like them to push out a fix now. Eventually I will end up in an accident because sadly I cannot afford to get into a new car or a used car.

I am the only owner of a 2015 Hyundai Sonata: in December 2018 the car had a new engine put in when the mileage was 106,894 due to the engine burning oil much too fast. On 9/20/2023 while getting an oil change Jiffy Lube told me the oil was almost empty, as the engine was burning oil way too fast again. This was at mileage 162,148. I checked the oil periodically to make sure the engine had oil. I added a quart around 163k and on Feb 3, 2024 I checked the oil at 165,000# miles on it barely had any oil in. I filled with about four quarts and then I started the car. Upon starting there was an explosion in the engine and all the oil drained out. My complaint is Hyundai replaced a know defective engine with the same defective engine, which unknowingly to me but me at risk driving the car. I am lucky the engine did not blow while driving on the highway. In researching after the engine blew the second time I found there was class action suits for this same problem in the past and there was some settlement. I do not know if the NHTSA was involved

Initially had loss of cabin heat. Later, vehicle randomly overheated. Repair shop replaced EGR due to finding confidant buildup of water/coolant mix. Within one week, problem returned. Dealer notified me that while replacing another part they found a TSB for coolant leakage into exhaust that was consistent with my issue. After research, it is clear that this is a widespread failure and should be a recall.

- #11571570February 13, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Had been traveling for approximately 2.5 hours in a winter storm, pushed on brake to slow down and park and the car started to chug. Turned car off and then back on again. Car would not start and had to be towed to nearest Hyundai dealership. There were no warning signs at all, car just suddenly quit. We were later informed that it was the fuel injectors. We were very fortunate that this did not occur in a place with no cell service on a very frigid, stormy night.

Engine leaks/burns oil too frequently. Every other week I’m continuously having to put oil to refill levels. Also electrical system for turn signals is always going in and out. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Safety hazard because other vehicles can’t tell that I’m turning.

- #11571357February 11, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Vehicle 1 operating normally in traffic on [XXX] in Westfield MA. Operator 1 notices alert on dashboard. As Operator 1 looks down briefly and returns eyes immediately to the road, she sees Vehicle 2 braking to slow or stop. Operator 1 depresses brakes, but vehicle does not slow as it usually does, nor does Automatic Emergency Braking engage as it always has in the past. Front of Vehicle 1 makes contact with rear of Vehicle 2. Dashcam footage appears like brakes did not activate at all, either manually or automatically. Vehicle 1 airbags deploy. Westfield Police respond, as well as Westfield Fire, who cut the battery cable. Vehicle towed to Interstate Towing, Inc. Yard 5, 20 Clifton St, Westfield, Ma 01085. (413) 593-1900 interstatetowing.com. Owner 1 viewed vehicle at tow yard, and noted that the battery was completely melted, with only portions of the plastic casing along with internal plates visible. Much of the plastic and rubber components immediately adjacent to battery location were melted and deformed. As a layperson, it almost appears as though the battery was in the process of shorting out just prior to the collision, possibly rendering many of the safety systems inoperable. I purchased this vehicle with 79k miles less than a year ago and it has barely 90k. My engine light is on, vehicle stalls, and the error codes are revealing misfire involving cylinder #3. I go to the dealership for maintenance, and have kept up with it. Replaced the ignition coil and spark plug for this cylinder and nothing is working. It stalled in the middle of the intersection and I nearly was hit by another vehicle. Supposedly, there are no recalls but I also had issues with the vehicle burning through oil after 1,000 miles of getting oil changed. The dealership claimed nothing was wrong with car but they were so desperate for me to buy this car. Shame on Hyundai.
