I own a 2018 Honda Accord EX‑L (VIN#: [XXX]). Shortly after a service visit to a Honda dealer for unrelated maintenance (in Sep. 2024 with an estimated 50,000 miles), the dashboard began showing ‘Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer’. A dealer quoted $400+ to diagnose and replace what appears to be a common passenger airbag indicator sensor failure, a known issue reported by many 2018 Accord owners. I believe Honda should issue a recall due to the safety risk. I’m filing this as a VOQ complaint for ODI’s review and authorize NHTSA to share my identifying info with Honda if needed. Supporting Documentation and numerous examples of complaints from hundreds of Honda Accord owners relating to this problem: - Numerous drivers of 2018 Honda Accords have reported the identical warning (“Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer”) along with fault code B002013, intermittent dashboard behavior, and inability of dealers to resolve it consistently. - Honda’s 2024 Campaign 24‑050 identifies the seat weight sensor as directly causing SRS warnings and passenger airbag indicator failure - demonstrating this component is known to fail and trigger airbag system alert behavior, even if not yet applied to 2018 model year. - Independent coverage confirms the risk and design defect in seat sensors causing unintended SRS failures, underscoring the safety risk and Honda’s formal acknowledgment of the issue in later models. - Multiple complaints about post‑service warning lights that match this scenario (electrical system category), and public news coverage stating Honda is recalling vehicles due to faulty passenger seat sensors that may cause airbag or SRS failures. - 37 official complaints for the 2018 Accord, with no repair by dealer and failure left unresolved. One report (May 12, 2025) describes this exact issue saying the dashboard message randomly popped up and a "dealer wanted $250 diagnostic and $4,000 to repair. - My service quote attached. Issues with the radio. Unbearable, ear piercing static coming from speakers. You can turn the volume all the way down and even power off the radio and it continues to have loud static coming from speakers. You have to pull over and turn the car off to stop the noise and alot of times it will not stop. There is no way to stop the noise. The car had this same issue when I bought it from a honda dealer. The dealer replaced the radio and 1 year later im having the same issue and the radio is 1 month out of warranty. I was quoted 1400 dollars for a new radio plus labor. Just doing a quick Google search, this seems to be a common problem with this year make and model vehicle. There are no recalls for the radio at this time. This is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed. Ive contacted honda america and have a case started.. please follow up on this issue... thanks

While driving ~40 mph call all of a sudden lost power in middle of busy street, was not able to steer or drive (pedals weren't working to provide power). I pulled off to side and saw check engine light blinking and warning message pop up about Brake system not working. I turned the car off then turned it back on and worked normally and was able to drive home.

While driving my 2018 Honda Accord, the engine began running roughly and the check engine lights and multiple warning lights came on. The vehicle was taken to a Honda dealership for diagnosis. The service department informed me that coolant was leaking into the engine, causing damage to the head gasket and cylinders 2 and 3. They confirmed this issue and recommended either an expensive head gasket/cylinder repair or a full engine replacement. Prior to this failure, I occasionally noticed mild engine hesitation, but no specific warning messages about low coolant or overheating appeared until the check engine light activated. The dealership stated this is not an uncommon issue with this engine. Upon further research, I discovered many other 2018 Accord owners with the same 1.5L turbocharged engine have reported coolant intrusion, cylinder damage, and head gasket failures — often affecting cylinders 2 and 3 specifically. This appears to be a design or manufacturing defect in the engine. This type of failure poses a safety risk due to potential engine misfires, power loss, or stalling while driving. The problem was confirmed by a licensed Honda service center, and I believe this issue should be investigated further for potential recall or manufacturer accountability.

- #11678709August 6, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The car was in cruise control going 73mph on the freeway. I was passing a semi on the left hand side. When I was parallel to the semi, the car brakes hard and a big "BRAKE" light came on the cluster. There were no cars in front of me and luckily no one behind me. If there was a car behind me there would have been a collision. It was a clear day and again the road was clear. It took me from 70 to about 40 mph until I hit the accelerator to get back to speed. The CMBS is faulty and I will take it in to a dealer asap.

- #11678721August 6, 2025ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled, and several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact attempted to drive the vehicle off the road, and the engine seized. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving on a busy highway. While attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that due to the failure, the vehicle was almost involved in a crash. The contact stated that drivers were shouting and were very aggressive. The contact was concerned for his safety and considered calling the Police for assistance. The two nearby drivers attempted to jumpstart the vehicle and assisted with pushing the vehicle off the road. The tow truck arrived on the scene and attempted to jumpstart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. The tow truck driver determined that the vehicle failed to start due to a possible fuel pump failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with fuel pump failure. The contact was advised to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was repaired; however, the contact was not informed of the cause of the failure until after the repair was completed. The contact requested the diagnostic information and was informed that the failure was fuel pump failure. In addition, the contact stated that an unknown gasket needed to be replaced and there was evidence of a coolant leak. The contact stated that because of the failure the vehicle was towed three times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 88,630.

- #11678735August 6, 2025ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I am reporting two safety-related issues with my 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid. 1. Head Gasket Failure At approximately 93,500 miles, the head gasket failed without any prior warning signs. The vehicle had been regularly maintained at Honda dealerships, with one service done by a third-party mechanic around 87,000 miles. There were no engine warning lights or coolant leak warnings before the incident. The engine temperature warning suddenly appeared while driving, and I immediately stopped the car. A Honda dealership confirmed the head gasket failure and quoted over $4,000 for repairs. This kind of major engine failure is highly unusual for such a new vehicle and raises serious concerns about long-term engine durability or possible design flaws in the cooling system or head gasket components. 2. False Activation of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) The vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system frequently activates or issues a warning while driving, even when there are no obstacles or vehicles nearby. This has happened multiple times and creates a sudden sense of panic, increasing the risk of being rear-ended or losing control of the vehicle. Both issues suggest potential safety defects in this model. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate whether similar complaints have been reported for the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid, as these failures could pose significant safety risks.

The Infotainment system (car audio) in my car is intermittently extremely defective and very distracting. The system will intermittently have ghost touches on the screen, switch screens on its own, end GPS routes, place phone calls on hold, and all kinds of other things while I am driving. Searching the internet for a solution this is a problem that many owners are experiencing and they also report it to be extremely distracting and dangerous. A recall should be issued to correct the problem before someone is distracted and has a bad accident and gets injured or killed.

Touchscreen glitches by itself, clicking randomly on the screen and is unresponsive to touch. It started after 2 years of use after purchasing new, and has not resolved. Heat seems to make it worse. It is a safety issue as it'll click out of navigation, or become difficult/impossible to change settings.

The infotainment system is registering multiple "ghost" touches, switching screens from GPS Air Play, to FM radio, to system info, to screen saver, to making actual phone calls, etc. This happens many times within a 30 second window. Many times, the infotainment system will power on its own accord and then flip through various screens. It has been reset 20-25 times and a hard reset by disconnecting a battery 5 times. Nothing helps. Honda said nothing they can do. I have multiple videos to prove the problem. This is a common problem as stated across multiple Honda Accord forums. It creates an unsafe driving environment.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2007 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 201,000, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 309,000.

The screen is not working. In the middle of driving, the screen keeps changing and appears that someone is touching it, but no one is. It starts beeping, the audio switches, the GPS goes off, and will not change even when you try clicking the buttons. It is extremely distracting while driving, navigation does not respond, and interferes with the ability to focus on driving. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer, has happened to numerous other customers, and the dealers have done nothing to fix it. It has been inspected by the Honda dealership multiple times. No warning prior to failure. According to research, this has been an ongoing problem for various other people, yet there is still not a fix available for this safety issue. This is unacceptable.

I purchased the Accord new and bought an extended warranty from Honda (Honda Care). My car started having intermittent glitches with the infotainment system about 8 or 9 months ago. The system experiences ghost touches, freezes up, disconnects from my phone, randomly makes calls, hangs up on calls I actually make, will not turn off. Basically, this thing controls the car's brain. I have taken the car to 2 different dealerships and gotten the same response: there is no known fix at this time. Keep in mind, Honda has know about this problem since 2019. I contacted Honda Corporation. I have spoken to them several times. The second to last time I spoke with them (7/31/25), I requested Honda buy the car back. Today Honda called and told me that my car does not qualify for repurchase because I haven't had an inordinate amount of issues with the car. They further said, as we as we have a fix they will contact me and there was nothing else they could do. Remember, they have know about this issue for better than 6 years and, according to information I gathered from the internet, it has been prevalent issue with many people. Not only is this issue a nuisance, it is a safety issue as well.

Infotainment head unit (touchscreen radio) overheats in the warmer months, causing the touchscreen to process commands without human touches (acts like a ghost is operating the unit). This can range from calling radom people within my contacts, turning th volume of the radio up to the max volume (startling and distracting), starting/stopping a GPS route, to freezing the screen altogether. I feel this is a safety issue, as we are warned not to operate this unit while the car is in motion. When the head unit is operating on its own, it is distracting and startling at times while driving. This can cause an accident. I've heard other owners say the manufacturer of this head unit has stated they don't have a fix for the "overheating" issue. Honda should be pursuing a remedy for their consumers to correct this safety hazzard.
