Vehicle down shifted hard and dash board lit up. Wouldn’t shift any higher than 4th or 5th gear. Fortunately we were only going about 35mph. If we would have been on the interstate as we had been the 2 previous days on our trip to Florida it could have been deadly. Brought the Tahoe to Ron Anderson GMC Chevrolet in Yulee, Florida on 3/18/25. The transmission valve body is the problem. As of today 4/11/25 we haven’t heard another word and returned home to Michigan 3 weeks ago.

- #11659186May 6, 2025ENGINE, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, POWER TRAIN
While traveling on the highway one day, my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe began warning lights on the dashboard. Shortly after, it running roughly,, and jerking, so I pulled over to investigate. There no visible smoke, so I drove to the nearest auto parts store, where they ran a diagnostic test that returned a code of P0306. I then took vehicle back to the dealership where have always received oil changes and repairs. I have never visited any other dealership, relying on certified GM/Chevrolet dealerships. After inspecting the vehicle, they informed me that the lifters needed replacement advised that it would be best to replace the engine entirely. Upon further research, I discovered that issue has been affecting many people in our area and across the United States. This needs to be addressed, as the vehicle is only three years old, purchased brand new with zero miles, and I have not done anything out of the ordinary to cause this problem. The vehicle being 70,000 and 12.000 for repairs is insane.

My wife drove the 2024 Tahoe with 13,464 miles to Florida for a beach trip with the kids. The car stopped working while she was driving. The vehicle flashed and the automatic transmission wasn’t changing gears. She manually shifted the gears until arriving at a safe place. The dealer states it is the transmission valve body that needs replaced. The part is on back order and from what the dealer said being built as needed.

Dear. My name is [XXX] . Phone # [XXX] . My email: [XXX] On [XXX] my Tahoe suddenly shut off while I was driving over 70 mph on the highway. It was towed to the South pointe chevrolet dealership in tulsa. I was told a fuse had failed and paid nearly $400. On April 17, 2025 they returned my Tahoe and said it fixed. [XXX] When i tried to start engine, then it acted like something almost can't start, then i text dealership and told them situation. On [XXX], the same failure occurred again — again at highway speed — nearly causing an accident with an 18-wheeler. The Tahoe was towed a second time. 2 times i was able to re-start engine drive until i stop then can't start it agian. Both time i smell something burned when i tried to re-start it. On April 21, I texted the service manager about GM TSB N252494000, which describes propulsion loss involving the L87 engine — the same engine in my Tahoe. Two days later, I was sent an invoice for $865.30 for a starter replacement. I was told the repair would not be covered under warranty — despite the vehicle still being under 60,000 miles at the time and the defect appearing to fall under a known GM issue. This is a recurring, life-threatening failure that GM and its dealer have not fixed. The vehicle is still under warranty, yet GM is refusing to cover the repairs. When driving on the highway at 75 mph, my vehicle alerted me to add oil. We immediately pulled off the side of the road checked the oil. There was not even a drop on the dip stick. Had to add 3 quarts of oil to even register on the very tip of the dip stick. Please note we were within 100 miles of being due for an oil change. The vehicle is currently at a Chevy dealership to start the process of inspection and do an oil consumption test. This vehicle is my main transportation to take my children to and from school and activities. We live in Larkspur, our children go to school in Monument and we have sports in Castle Rock, so we drive quite a bit. I’m not sure that I’m comfortable with a small fix and using a different type of oil to see if my engine will be salvageable. My questions: Can you confidently let me leave your dealership and guarantee that my family will be safe and know that my engine will not fail due to the recall issues? If my car engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced do you have a comparable loner car until then? If my car engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced can you confidently say this is not going to affect my resale or trade in value? Do you have a recall trade in credit for a 2025 vehicle? I spent $85k on what I thought was a reliable vehicle for me to drive my 2 children around in. My biggest concern is that my engine stops running while I’m on the highway at a fast speed with or without my family. If my husband wasn’t in my car when the oil notification came on, we probably would have lost our engine. How is GM going to make this right and guarantee safety for my family? How is GM going to help with our frustration, anxiety and loss of time dealing with this mistake of selling vehicles with a defective engine? When will I have these answers?

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights illuminated. The message "Loss of Oil Pressure" was displayed, and the vehicle made an abnormally loud banging sound. The contact was able to continue driving at slow speeds with the hazard lights engaged. The contact drove to the dealer, where he was employed. The dealer diagnosed that the engine lifters had failed. The vehicle was then towed to the Chevrolet dealer, where it was diagnosed that the lifters had failed. The dealer provided an estimated fee for the repair. The vehicle was towed to Redline Performance LLC, where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings in the oil pump, camshaft, and in other unknown parts, along with the lifters failure. The mechanic replaced the lifters, the connecting rod, the camshaft, the oil pump, and other unknown parts; however, the failure recurred after picking up and driving the vehicle to the residence. Additionally, there was smoke coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to Stan McNabb Chevrolet Columbia (101 S James Campbell Blvd, Columbia, TN 38401), who informed the contact that the vehicle would not be diagnosed by the dealer. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

On May 14, 2023 I was on a trip driving the Tahoe (midnight blue Tahoe in the pictures) about 60 mph, on highway 41 (middle of nowhere, no cell reception) south of kettleman city, CA when, without any warning or symptoms of any problem whatsoever, the engine lost propulsion and died. I was able to coast onto the shoulder and tried starting it. It started again and I continued driving and about 35 minutes later I stopped at a red light on Highway 41 in Lemoore, CA. Again the Tahoe engine died without warning and would not restart. When I tried starting it I could smell a burning smell. The engine cranked but wouldn’t start, and then the check engine light came on. I was at a stoplight on a major highway and was unable to move the vehicle, and was scared to sit in it, so I put on the vehicle hazard lights, got out of the car and ran to the side of the road for safety. Luckily I did not have my children with me. I called 911 and a police officer came and parked behind my vehicle with his lights on so hopefully no other vehicles would hit it. A tow truck was immediately dispatched as high priority by the police. I had it towed to Hedricks Chevrolet dealership in Clovis, California, who informed me there was metal parts in the oil and that the engine was destroyed and had to be replaced. It took several months to get the engine replaced and in the meantime, I bought a new 2023 Cadillac Escalade so I would have a vehicle to drive. The Cadillac Escalade ended up having an extremely similar problem (and I will file a separate report for that vehicle). A few months later when the Tahoe replacement engine was installed I picked up the Tahoe from the dealership and sold it to Carmax.
