My ID4 windshield chips very easily and in fact i have had it for less then 1 year and small rocks on freeway damaged windshield and had to replace it out of my pocket. Even after getting new windshield it’s chipping again. The glass is hazardous as i am afraid it will break easily when compared with other cars. Cars speedometer turn off due to VW software glitch while driving so in the middle of freeway drivers would have no idea on speed and can cause accidents.

These recalls are old: February 7, May 5, and August 25 of last year. My local dealership, Hansel Volkswagen, 2951 Corby Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95407 (1-707-578-1320), is unable to get the parts for these repairs from VW of America, even though WV of America is steadily building new cars. My 2021 ID4 is still not repaired.

After parking on a slope, front of car uphill, slope of about 15-20 degrees, placing car in park, the car would roll back once out of car. It happened once and went up against another car, minor scrape, but I was almost pinned. I moved the car to a different spot with similar slope, it happed again. The wheels were rotating, had to jump in passenger side and push hand onto brake. It had happened once before, but went up against a curb, but I had thought I had parked poorly. But in retrospect, likely rolled. Tried to call/contact VW, but it is a Friday and they do not accept safety calls Friday evening through Tuesday.

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the instrument panel turned off and was completely black. The contact stated that the driver assistance systems and the speedometer were unavailable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the same dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

Door won't unlock / open from inside. Got stuck a few times, had to turn off and on the car for doors to re-engaged electronically. Nothing in manual reflects manual emergency open doors. What happens in the event of power failure or dead battery?

I submitted a previous report regarding my passenger front door attempting to open while the vehicle was in motion. Yesterday the door fully opened under motion with my wife as a passenger. It sounds like the latch kept cycling until the door opened. My wife just prior to departure decided to start video recording while driving as we both believed the dealer may not be able to replicate the incidents. We have recording of this we can email. The door does attempt to open several times on some days, some days it doesn't. My vehicle according to the dealer is not a part of the affected vin's for the recall. It has not been back to the dealer for evaluation and repair yet. This has become an extremely dangerous situation as an owner or passenger.

Passenger window moves in opposite direction. Specifically, when the passenger window is partially down, trying to close the window from the driver side switch results in the window traveling in the opposite direction. This is a safety concern. If there are children or dogs in the passenger side, or if there is someone outside trying to get in, the window opening instead of closing is very unexpected and is a concern. Brought to the dealer and reproduced. Said they “fixed it”. Then when I showed them again, they said this was by design. How can a switch cause the window to open when intending to close? Easily reproducible. This is a defect and safety issue. There are no warning lights, documentation, or otherwise explaining this unexpected behavior.

Intermittent problem since purchasing the car in September 2021: if child safety lock is engaged when parking the car and the doors are otherwise unlocked, upon exiting the car, the rear doors will not open from the outside. Clicking unlock on the key FOB won't unlock the doors. I need to power the car on again and deactivate the lock from within the car. Earliest occurrence was in October 2021.

Driver-side door opens and closes by itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Driver-side door also locks and unlocks itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Unable to unlock driver-side door from the outside of the car. Some times the driver side door will not open from the inside all the way. Before, this was just a frustrating inconvenience, but yesterday, it became a scary, safety hazard. I was stopped in the middle of the street during peak hour traffic at a green light unable to start my car because the driver-side door had opened itself, but I could not open the door all the way to close it and the car would not let me start because it thought the door was open. Even after I was finally able to open my door and tried to close it, the car still would not start. I had to try repeatedly to start the car back up before it finally started. This happened for several minutes while I had my small children in the backseat and other cars were honking around us and nearly hit us. I have told the dealership and taken the car to get serviced, but the part to fix the door is back ordered with an unknown delivery date. The dealership says that many of their 2023 ID.4 customers are facing the same door issue and they've reported their frustrations with VW headquarters. This needs to be investigated and VW should issue a formal recall.

- #11579090March 23, 2024BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING
I was backing up from a stand still on a parking lot when the car braked extremely hard. There briefly was a message on the center dash with the word emergency on it. The message went away immediately and the car continued to work normal. My neck is still hurting hours later from the very hard brake. During the whole incident there was no other car moving and no person or other object anywhere in the path of the car. I have not yet brought the car to the dealer but will do so next week.

For fuse function, location and value, the owners manual has incorrect information which is worse than no information at all. This creates a safety and fire hazard in cases where higher amperage fuses can be placed in lower amperage circuits. The fuse panel cover is also deficient with no information about fuse function, location or value. The implication is that in time of need, an operator is unable to locate and replace a fuse to make the vehicles safety and operating systems functional. Worse yet, if a fuse is replaced it can be the wrong value creating a fire hazard or compromising the vehicles wiring and safety systems. I have called VW corporate customer service twice and explained how my safety is being compromised. VW will not take action. No solution offered. No effort.

After leaving a stop sign and making a right turn I heard what sounded like a clunk with an audible tone. This was followed by the interior lights turning on and a red door open symbol on the dashboard display (see attached photo). A few hundred feet later I parked my car at work and took photos of the passenger front door ajar as if attempting to unlatch while in motion. I read of a recall (campaign number 23V312) for 2021 -2022 Volkswagen ID4's for this issue. My dealer stated my vehicle is not included in the recall though it's having the same issue. I'm scheduling a service visit in soon.

RE: Case No: [XXX]- VIN: [XXX] Consumer: [XXX] & [XXX] Manufacturer: Volkswagen/Audi of America, INC Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology To All Concerned: My take on the following is that not automatically resuming adaptive cruise control after a lengthy stop or if the driver is looking away from the road is the choice. Just broaching the subject of Evaluating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology indicates they have reason to investigate. Evaluating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology Insurance Institute for Highway Safety The IIHS outlines the full list of criteria that qualifies a vehicle for a good rating: •Monitors both the driver’s gaze and hand position •Uses multiple types of rapidly escalating alerts to get the driver’s attention •Employs a fail-safe procedure to slow the vehicle, notify the manufacturer and keep automation off limits for the remainder of the drive •Requires automated lane changes to be initiated or confirmed by the driver •Does not automatically resume adaptive cruise control after a lengthy stop or if the driver is looking away from the road •Does not discourage steering by the driver while lane-centering •Prohibits automation features if the seat belt is unfastened •Prohibits automation features if automatic emergency braking or lane departure prevention and warning systems are disabled Not terminating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology upon manual braking creates an unsafe condition. I am still including this page simply because it reinforces the primary fact that Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology offers different programing related to resetting/reactivating the Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology. - The front passenger door unlatched at speed while driving around 30 mph. It is available for inspection. - The safety of the passenger seated in the front passenger seat is at risk if the door were to fully open, as well as any objects in the errant door’s way. - The problem has NOT been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. - The vehicle and component has NOT been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. - There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, only after the door was opened was there a notification (chime and message) of an open door.

In two years I haven’t been able to open my passenger side doors from the outside.. VW states it a recall item with no fix available. This is only a way to skirt the lemon laws. VW should be forced to fix these defective doors at once to take the car back,. I going to seek remedy in Federal Court if this isn’t addressed soon.

Center console spontaneously shuts down while driving. After about 3 min, the system reboots, but temporarily the driver console also disappears and the speedometer cannot be seen. A warning that lane assist is not available is shown. The backup rear view cannot be used during the downtime. In this car, this happened three times over a 4 month period with about 2000 total miles driven. In a previous instance in a different ID4, braking was also impacted and additional error messages appeared temporarily.

- #11572783February 19, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
1. The brake pedal freezes intermittently when I step on the brake. 2. The sensor is faulty - it flashes red and warns me that the brake isn't working. 3. In autonomous driving mode, it did not detect the vehicle in front of me and didn't slow down. 4. After driving in the rain, the front brakes seized up. VW of Wellesley in MA said they fixed these issues, but I continue to experience 1 and 2. It hasn't rained so I couldn't test #4. My car was in the shop from [XXX] to [XXX] this last time. Previously, it was there twice for shorter time. #2 first happened when my car was new. I mentioned it to the sales guy and he said the sensor was probably blocked. It kept happened but when my car stopped detecting the car in front on the highway, I knew something was wrong. The backup camera flickers intermittently on the system. The unit has been in for repairs 2 times for this issue, with the camera unit being replaced once. The system continues to flicker intermittently with a rough correlation to having direct sunlight on the back of the vehicle.
