Hood prop up rod comes loose in windy conditions. The was captured on my CCTV cameras and is also duplicatable. Simply shake the hood when it’s open and the rod comes loose Toyota was notified and instructed me to show the dealer. Dealer was notified and we duplicated the problem in their presence. They informed me that there was nothing they can do and they noted in in the maintenance report. ENGINE
Engine began making abnormal ticking noise, heard primarily on the passenger side of vehicle. Upon removal of valve cover for inspection, found that there are chunks of camshafts breaking off causing the noise. Appears to be a manufacturing defect. Local dealer said they have seen this issue before. This issue could result in catastrophic engine failure and/or loss of power and cause a crash. My truck has 70k miles on it, regularly maintained and operated.

ENGINE
This vehicle thermostat and sensor system are faulty! My sensor started lighting up within a year and half after purchasing. Engine was not overheating at first, they said it will eventually happen and it did; all dealers said to replace but I was out of 360000 miles due to commute to Seattle. This vehicle is less then 3 years old and should have this item listed specifically in power train warranty since connected to engine directly. If engine overheats it is no longer usable and truck is useless! Engine warranty if this is a know issue from Toyota dealerships. Contacted 3-4 dealerships in the state of WA and all had known of issue. One dealer stated anything from 2020 to current has had thermostat issues. This is serious concern knowing the engine can seize up! Their thermostat and sensor should not be a combined item in my opinion. Please advise and or confirm this is an issue that should be looked into. If the engine overheats then the vehicle could cause an accident! This is a huge safety risk that can be avoided! I work and make it from paycheck to paycheck this was very expensive to fix and had to paid out of pocket. Please help others be aware of situation!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The owner and operator of the vehicle, stated that they were driving the vehicle on the Interstate when they noticed white smoke and ashes emanating from the steering column. They pulled into the parking lot to investigate and opened the hood to see no smoke or fire. When they returned to the passenger compartment, the smoke turned black in color, and they observed fire emanating from the steering column. I am the Lead Fire Investigator on this incident for the Edmond Fire Department. The electrical components in the area observed with fire contained electrical arc sites and melting. No other accidental heat sources were present, and natural causes and human involvement were ruled out as well. Incident number is [XXX] in Edmond, OK. Vehicle lurched forward with a “bang” accelerating in stop and go traffic. Vehicle then stalled and flashed multiple warnings. Hybrid system failure. Drive mode failure. General failure. Vehicle would not restart on first attempt - multiple attempts made to restart. Upon restarting, it would not move forward in Drive, prompting a new error stating it needed to be returned to park. After a couple more restarts it was able to engage the gear and move forward. Power was limited, it drove differently, and the hybrid error persisted.

SUSPENSION
I was driving along and the top hat on my suspension blew out. Toyota used a cast aluminum top hat on the top of the coil over and the shock blew through the top of the top shock mount. They used a steel top hat on the 4Runner so I believe they know it is an issue but haven’t had enough issues with it yet to do a recall. I uploaded a picture of what my coil over looks like after it happened and what it is supposed to look like. Stock trd offroad suspension.

Six speed manual transmission would not shift into second fourth or sixth gears. It started in a parking lot shifting from first to second, then it made a grinding noise and all the bottom gears of the extended 'H' shift pattern were not functioning.

POWER TRAIN
Vehicle was set in tow/haul mode. Tow/haul mode provides higher acceleration by changing the operation of transmission. Vehicle was towing 2500lb cargo trailer on interstate. Driver stopped at rest area and turned off engine and left vehicle. Driver returned to vehicle 5 minutes later. Driver started engine and proceeded to leave the rest area. Driver was on highway entrance ramp. Entrance ramp merges with right lanr Driver attempted to accelerate to enter highway in such a way that there would be safe distance between end of trailer and car on highway approaching end of trailer. Vehicle would not accelerate as quickly as it was accelerating for the past 2 hours. Driver was surprised and distracted. Margin of safety between rear end of trailer and car on highway was greatly reduced. Some time after the incident Driver realized that car forgot it was in tow haul mode whenever engine is turned off. There is no warning that mode changed. This means that car does not behave as reasonably expected after an ignition cycle

POWER TRAIN
Transmission is failing, fluid was black and burnt at 35k miles (dealer did not provide a large enough sample to allow for testing the fluid because I didn't specify the amount I needed), and vehicle is not throwing a CEL or MIL so therefore Toyota says that there is no defect. Fluid change did improve the functioning, but it did not correct the problem. Transmission failures are a known problem on numerous Toyota vehicles using an A series transmission. My vehicle has done this and progressively worsened since it had roughly 500 miles on it. Dealership originally refused to document my complaints in their system and Toyota Customer Care's assistance has been minimal at best. My vehicle suffers from numerous of the same complaints that are listed under the 2024 model Tacoma. Before servicing the transmission fluid the vehicle would occasionally have an extremely hard shift around 55mph that would result in the truck spinning tires on the interstate which shouldn't even be possible. I actually managed to capture a short video of the dash as it was doing this once and even sent it to Toyota but they said if they can't replicate it then it doesn't count. I think there needs to be an investigation into Toyota's transmission issues as well as someone should investigate their programming for MIL/CEL activation parameters as their vehicles are alerting the driver's to a problem until there is a complete and total failure which could leave the driver in an unnecessary and dangerous situation that could possibly be avoided if the driver was informed when the "Fail-safe" features activate instead of when they're unable to compensate. Feb 06,2025 Manufacturer Recall Number25TB04 NHTSA Recall Number25V058 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available Summary The rear brake hoses in the subject vehicles can be damaged over time if there is enough build-up of mud and dirt inside the rear wheels from operating under certain off-road conditions. Safety Risk This can result in a brake fluid leak, increasing the risk of crash. Mileage is under 4K now. Truck was paid off for over $40k and I can't drive it the way intended. They have informed me once regarding the recall via email and when getting routine service the service department was aware of recall and stated to just not drive my truck in 4x4 mode. That's why I bought this truck. The 4x4 mode.

The contact owns a 2021 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the fuel pump was very noisy while having a routine oil change at an independent mechanic. There was an abnormal clacking sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V682000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that sound was coming from the fuel pump. The dealer informed the contact that the sound was normal. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

Driver's door unlatched during the winter (January 2025) while stopping at an intersection. The incident repeated yesterday April 19, 2025, while driving on the freeway and turning right. The door partially opened and a warning light appeared on the dashboard. Reduced speed / stopped, to be able to completely open the door and close again. The vehicle has approximately 25,200 miles. Vehicle is being taken to a Toyota dealer to have the door latch inspected and to try to reproduce the failure mode. No explanation needed on why a door unlatching on its own, while cruising on a freeway, is a safety risk to the driver and others.

I have a new 2024 Toyota Tacoma that I purchased December 2024. my dashboard lit up the morning of Thursday, April 17. Drive start warning on the dashboard and a secondary breaking malfunction warning I contacted my local Toyota dealer and informed him that my vehicle is giving me warnings and I only have 13,000 miles on the vehicle. I took the vehicle and they told me that it was the fuel pump they replaced the fuel pump return the vehicle to me, and before I could leave the parking lot both codes on the dashboard shut up again and the vehicle would not move. I am writing this report to document what is going on with the vehicle. I believe that it is a lemon and there’s something majorly wrong with it. I brought the vehicle brand new in December and again it’s only has 13,000 miles on it right now.
