Driver-side mirror (glass part only) vibrates while driving, no matter the speed. This causes a distorted rear view — for example, it's hard to read the license plate of a car on your left.

I, as well as other owners of 2017–2018 Toyota Highlanders and 2017–2018 Siennas are experiencing serious transmission issues—including high-pitched whining, erratic shifting, clunks, hesitation, and premature failure. My 2017 Toyota Sienna has the UA80 8-speed automatic transmission at issue and started whining upon acceleration in March/April 2026 timeframe. It has always had the clunking and hesitation problem. According to Gears Magazine, the issue stems from a flawed assembly process involving the counter drive gear support. A locking tab meant to secure a vital retaining nut was not bent properly during factory assembly. This leads to gear movement, internal wear, whining, and eventually failure. Unknown to me, in 2019, Toyota had acknowledged the problem in Technical Service Bulletins T-SB-0160-18, T-SB-0008-21, which only go to dealers, and implemented a limited Customer Support Program (CSP ZJC)—but only offered coverage to a narrow group of VINs, not to all VINs for model years that have these transmissions. My car is experiencing these same symptoms. My Toyota Dealer confirmed this problem and recommended a transmission replacement for $11,000 including labor. They said my VIN was not included in the Customer Support Program. Driving with a failing transmission is highly dangerous. A bad transmission can cause sudden power loss causing the car to halt to a sudden stop, unintended acceleration, or my car might get stuck in neutral while driving. I could lose control or be unable to get to the shoulder on the highway, cause a rear-end collision, or get stuck in busy traffic. DESIRED OUTCOME REQUEST: My VIN should be covered under the Customer Support Program in the category of cars that are “less than 10 years old regardless of mileage” or a full recall of all VINs of these model years with these transmissions should be executed. Thank you.

The glide pins in the calipers came loose and one of the pins fell out (left front drivers side). As a result it caused the caliper to seize and smoke. It got hot and mangled the lower left control arm bushing. I bought a new glide pin and that one stayed it, but the right side (original part) came loose again, even after tightening it. We replaced the calipers with a different brand and it had no issues.

power sliding door (behind front passenger) does not fully engage arresting hook and tends to immediately return to open position and after hitting the button again starts welling. It started about eight months ago. Now it isn’t connected at all, I just open or close it and it slides but don’t try to open it first if it’s locked or the alarm blares. I may have pulled or pushed it too many times trying to open or close it so I could drive the car. Looks like others have had the same issue with their driver side passenger door too.

While driving my new 2026 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition home from the dealership on the day of purchase (XXX), I applied routine braking to stop at a yellow light. Both second-row captain's chairs, which had been slid fully rearward and left in the upright position during the dealer's cargo-space demo, and which I assumed had been properly locked, suddenly slammed forward with extreme force into the back of the front seats, and the seatbacks self-folded on impact. Notably, both chairs failed identically and simultaneously, which suggests a systemic design or manufacturing issue rather than an isolated event. Had a person or object been positioned between the chairs and the front seats, they would have been struck or crushed; any item on top of the chairs could have become airborne. My canvas bag in the cargo area was compressed by the force. Summary: the seats appeared to fail to latch/lock securely in their rearward track position. After the incident I was unable to move or release the chairs from the collapsed position, though this could have been due to my own lack of expertise on how to operate the chairs. No injuries occurred because the seats were unoccupied at the time, but this presents a serious injury risk to occupants under normal braking conditions. On XXX I took the vehicle to a second dealership, Bev Smith Toyota in [XXX], for inspection. The tech's video and resulting service invoice incorrectly claimed the seats were "unlocked" and not in the upright position at the time of the incident, stating "No problem found." I disputed this in writing, since the seats were indeed upright. I asked Bev Smith to conduct a safety test drive but the invoice does not show this was done. I asked for a demo of the seats and was shown how to lock and confirm stability, a step the average consumer might skip entirely, simply pulling the seats back and assuming they were latched, as Palm Beach Toyota had done. On June 11, 2026, a BraunAbility Turny Evo seat system, installed by a third-party mobility dealer, suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure while in operation. A passenger with a physical disability was secured in the equipment when the mechanism seized, trapping the individual mid-cycle. The remote control displayed a mandatory "Code 19" error, rendering the equipment unresponsive and creating an immediate safety crisis. Beyond this mechanical failure, the vehicle's structural integrity is compromised. The floor plates and railings, which are critical for the securement of this mobility equipment, are loose and rattling, posing a severe risk of detachment while in motion. Furthermore, the interior upholstery was permanently damaged during the installation process, and a secondary mobility hoist system—which was paid for in full—was never installed. The dealer and the manufacturer have been notified of these dangerous structural and mechanical defects but have failed to provide a safe, complete repair. The vehicle is currently unsafe to operate and poses a direct threat to the safety of the passenger.

Car surged as brakes were applied when stopping. Very dangerous. Could have easily rear-ended another vehicle. Surge was immediate and occurred when brake was being applied. Not confirmed yet, but another driver of vehicle told me of having similar problems when braking this car. Very scary. No warnings or messsages.

The complaint was filed for the contact's business. The business owns a 2025 Toyota Sienna Hybrid. The business received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V668000 (Seats); however, part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the vehicle had been inoperable since the recall notification was received. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle had not experienced a failure related to the unrepaired recall repair.

- #11747444June 30, 2026AIR BAGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), specifically the airbag system, is the component of concern. During a two-impact collision involving my 2025 Toyota Sienna XLE, none of the airbags deployed despite significant front-end damage that resulted in the vehicle being declared a total loss. The vehicle is currently in the possession of the insurance company or its storage facility. I do not know whether it has been released for salvage, but it may still be available for inspection. I, my wife, and our children were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. After an oncoming vehicle struck the front-left portion of my vehicle while making a left turn, my vehicle lost control and collided with a concrete pillar. None of the airbags deployed during either impact. All occupants sustained injuries and were transported to the emergency department. I suffered injuries to my right leg, wrist, chest, neck and back. My wife sustained injuries to her neck, chest, back, and knee, and our children sustained injuries including head impacts. My wife and I continue to receive physical therapy. The vehicle was declared a total loss following the collision, and no dealer or independent repair facility has evaluated or reproduced the concern. The vehicle was inspected by the responding law enforcement officers at the crash scene, and a police crash report was completed. The insurance company (GEICO and Allstate Fire and Casualty) inspected the vehicle and declared it a total loss. To my knowledge, Toyota has not yet inspected the vehicle, and I do not know whether the Event Data Recorder (EDR) or Supplemental Restraint System has been analyzed. Prior to the collision, I did not observe any airbag warning lights, SRS warning messages, or other indications that there was a problem with the Supplemental Restraint System. The vehicle was operating normally before the crash.

Stitching on the driver seat is tearing. Under normal wear. The vehicle is just out of the 3 year/36,000 warranty period. If the seat continues to degrade it will not be safe for future use as it worsens.

Unexpected failure of the acceleration pedal to accelerate from a complete stop to a go at an intersection. The electric vehicle (EV) motor began accelerating up to about 3 mph than instantly had a failure to accelerate, even with the gas pedal continuously pushed to the floor. After about 4 to 5 seconds the engine kicked on and began accelerating. The failure seemed to occur during the EV motor swapping over to the gas powered engine. This has been the fourth occurrence and can be extremely dangerous at intersections with oncoming traffic. No fault codes or check engine lights came on.

The power liftgate on my 2024 Toyota Sienna consistently fails to complete a full close-and-latch cycle. When activated, the liftgate begins its closing sequence normally but then aborts the cycle during the final stages of latching. The system emits an audible beeping signal and the liftgate reverses direction, reopening approximately one-quarter of the way. This failure occurs repeatedly when the vehicle is stationary with no external obstruction present. Multiple repeated attempts to close the liftgate using standard operation (key fob, interior switch, and exterior switch) result in the same failure pattern. The system does not complete a secure latch. Eventually, the liftgate can only be fully closed manually with physical force, bypassing the powered closing function entirely. This condition occurs intermittently at times but has become frequent and repeatable enough to prevent reliable use of the power liftgate system. No obstructions are present during operation. The local Toyota dealership service department observed this and indicated a lift gate adjustment is required, noting it is a known issue Toyota Customer Care has indicated they have no documented record of a known defect relating to this condition. However, multiple independent owner reports and dealer-level discussions indicate similar behavior may be occurring in other vehicles of the same model line, suggesting a potential systemic issue that may not yet be formally recognized. This malfunction raises potential safety concerns, including but not limited to: failure of the rear liftgate to fully secure and latch, increased risk of the liftgate remaining partially open or unlatched without clear driver awareness, and reliance on manual force to override an electronic safety system designed for automatic secure closure. I request that this complaint be documented for investigation and review to determine whether a defect trend exists in the power liftgate system of the Toyota Sienna platform.

The car will occassionally lurch forward while braking. It's somewhat random but most often happens when going down a slight hill. My best guess is that there is an issue with the transition from regenerative braking to mechanical braking. It feels like the vehicle momentarily looses contact with the brakes and that the brake pedal has to be pushed down another inch or two to reengage. My concern is that if this happens at the wrong time that I will get in an accident. This has happened ever since I bought it. It's not very often, maybe once a week. Speeds have been variable from under 25 to highway speeds.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Sienna. While the contact’s wife was pulling into the parking space, the transmission shifter was shifted into park(P), and the vehicle suddenly rolled forward approximately four feet. The parking brake was activated, preventing the vehicle from crashing into a parked vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence. While examining the vehicle, the contact determined that the shifter cable bushing had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. Additionally, previously while driving there was smoke coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the oil cooler line had failed causing engine oil to spill from the engine. The rubber oil cooler line was replaced with an updated improved oil cooler line, and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 170,000.

I have a 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE with about 120k miles on it. Out of nowhere the transmission was gear hunting and surging. It eventually became impossible to get it above 30 mph. It seemed like the transmission just went haywire. No lights on the dash let me know anything was wrong. Thankfully I had just pulled off the highway. Otherwise it could've been bad. I couldn't drive it safely so I had it towed to the nearest Toyota dealership. They said that the transmission needed to be replaced. $9k....

- #11745697June 22, 2026FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
While driving at speed, the vehicle suffered a sudden and complete loss of engine power and stalled in traffic. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who found a failed factory-installed Denso fuel pump module. This failure mirrors Toyota Safety Recall 20TA02 (NHTSA Campaign 20V012) for the exact same model year 2017 Toyota Sienna, but my specific VIN is currently excluded from the recall list. The un-recalled defective component created an immediate highway safety hazard as me and my family were left stranded in the middle of the road. We waited for hours at the risk of oncoming traffic until we were able to have a tow truck lift the van and take to the nearest repair facility (an independent service center - Goodyear Auto Service). The repair facility diagnosed the problem and confirmed that the fuel pump failed to generate enough pressure causing the vehicle to stall and not start again. To correct the problem, the fuel pump was replaced with an OEM toyota fuel pump module assembly.

Since owning my 2018 Toyota Sienna, I have experienced hesitation and erratic shifting with my transmission. I have the UA80E transmission which upon research others are experiencing issues with as well. It appears Toyota is not fully acknowledging the problem. The problem is a safety issue as sometimes when you go to quickly accelerate (merging, making a turn while starting from a stop, etc) the transmission hesitates and doesn't engage for a few seconds. This is an ongoing problem with the transmission. Toyota really needs to fix these transmissions!

We had our van parked on a driveway with a front facing slope, we had hard rains went we where going away there was water coming out of the seat belt on the passenger side and the panel above the window was stained down to the window support where the air bag is. I've been reading reports as far back as 2008 we have a 2020, went taken to the dealer they want 1000 to 2700 to remove the head liner and try to fine the problem, which what was reported didn't help. The dealer recommended to not park with the front of the van facing down hill if rain is forecast, my problem is that Toyota has not been required to fix the leaks. I'm calling my local dealership tomorrow about are leak.
