I have a 2024 Prius LE AWD. A recall has been issued for certain 2023 and 2024 Prius cars but no remedy has been announced yet. I would like Toyota to expedite the process for fixing the issue since I don't know if my car is concerned and don't feel very safe driving my car because of this ongoing recall.

This NHTSA web site adivses owners to "file an online complaint" if "... the manufacturer has failed to remedy the recall in a timely manner..." It is NHTSA #24V274 and has been active for 11 weeks without the manufacturer's remedy. There is no public estimate of a date for this recall to be addressed, except for a vague "third quarter of 2024" which implies an additional 11 weeks for any remedy to be provided. I think that 22 weeks is not a remedy in a "timely manner."

There are NO air vents or air flow to the rear seats. Passengers will overheat in the summer with no relief and I have no idea how this even made it on the market without vents to seats.

This car doesn’t come with a spare tire. Lots of new cars don’t have them. This is a major safety hazard. It should be illegal to sell cars without them. Not only does the little kit they give you work with a puncture but the remedy ruins the tire so it can’t be repaired. All car manufacturers should be required to have a spare tire.

This car is the Limited edition with 19 inch wheels. It does not come with a spare tire. The tires originally equipped on the vehicle are Michelin 195/50R19 Primacy A/S and they are NOT available to Toyota dealerships or at Tire Stores. I have one tire picked up a screw first week I owned the car, Toyota would not repair the tire, they said screw too close to edge of tire and not safe to repair or drive. Tire is not available so they sent me home with screw and I had to do repair myself, since tire is NOT available I have been driving around with this "unsafe" repair now for 6 months, tire has not fallen apart yet. next issue in April found a different tire is defective with a sidewall leak, it is under warranty but no replacement tires are available, Toyota is not taking care of this problem and has left me to handle it. Tire has to be filled sometimes 2 times a day and with sidewall coming apart is unsafe to drive.

The 12 volt battery was low, apparently from opening and closing doors during a camping trip. After a few days of sitting unused, I attempted to drive the vehicle. I pushed the start button and the car indicated that it was "ready". When I went to shift the transmission into Drive, the transmission went into Neutral instead and stuck there. At the same time, "low battery" indicators began flashing and the displays started blanking out and flashing. I again attempted to shift into Drive so that I could initiate the gas engine and recharge the battery while driving. However, I could not shift out of neutral and then the car went out of "ready" mode but was still powering accessories. When I attempted to restart the car, it would not let me because it was in neutral. At this time, I tried to shift back into park (push-button) and got an error message that said, Parking Brake Unavailable. So here I am with a vehicle that I need to start to get the battery charged but it won't let me out of Neutral or into Park, which prevents it from starting. Repeated attempts to get the car into Park electronically were not successful and there is not a manual parking brake. The issue is that there was no way to exit the vehicle to get help without risk of it rolling away. And from a technical standpoint, while there was not enough power to shift into park or actuate the parking brake, the vehicle was still powering all non-critical functions like infotainment system, AC, convenience lights, windshield wipers, headlights, parking lights, etc. Some things could be powered down, others could not. It seems to me that, in the absence of a manual parking brake, powering the parking system electronically should have priority over all other systems. In short, I was stuck in the vehicle with my foot on the brake pedal to prevent a rollaway accident. Had I not realized this, I easily could have exited and been run over trying to pop my hood for a jump start. Or rolled over the people downhill.

- #11575822March 6, 2024EXTERIOR LIGHTING
There is a safety design flaw with the dash lights. If the headlights are ON The dash lights are turned down to a significantly lower illumination automatically and cannot be turned back up to full brightness. This is a big issue when driving with your head lights on during daylight rain/fog. The dash lights won't turn up to full brightness and are very difficult to read, especially for anyone over 50 years old when the head lights are turned on. Alabama law requires head lights be on, not just DRL, but head lights. The dash is VERY dim. This has never been an issue before with any car I have owned.

This Car is NOT equipped with a spare tire or Jack and there is NO option available from Toyota and the manufacture refuses to address the many consumer concerns and offer a solution. This is unacceptable and a spare tire and jack should be REQUIRED safety equipment in the USA - I can't own a car without a spare tire, lug wrench, and jack. This is negligent from the manufacture and needed to report this in effort to get this offered as an Option or required by law so people can drive safe. WIth all the regulations we have and this is not required. It should be!

My car was less than 6 months old when a crack began to appear in the windshield. It started at the base of the windshield by the hood. There was no impact and no reason for this crack to appear, it was spontaneous. It hampers my vision and must be replaced at my expense according to the dealership. I am reporting this because I'm reading about other Prius owners who have had a similar problem.

Extremely loud, ear-piercing noise from speakers when the vehicle is started. Lasts about two to three seconds. My ears have been damaged by it. My young boys cried while in their car seats and said that their ears hurt. Noise occurs randomly. Dealer states that they can't do anything since it is not reproducible. I offered to record the noise when I enter the car. I would have to have my cell phone ready to do this every time I start the car. Dealer said they will not accept recordings or videos. It has to occur in the presence of their technician. I filed a complaint with Toyota corporate. They said it's up to the dealer. No help there. Internet forums are filled with these random high-pitched noises on late model Toyotas: [XXX] module and/or amplifier are the specified culprits in TSBs. However, since my particular year and model is not listed, they will not investigate or do anything. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11545375September 19, 2023SERVICE BRAKES, AIR BAGS
My husband and I rented a car from Avis on June 19, 2023. THe car they we selected was not available so they picked a prius out of the lot and gave it to us. On the morning of June 20, I was slowly turning into the driveway at [XXX] , my foot on the brake the whole time to slow to a stop so I could park parallel to my realtor's car. My realtor, [XXX] , witnessed the slow speed, as did many of the neighbors, as it was a quiet residential street. I continued to depress the brake but instead of stopping, our rental car, a Toyota Prius, suddenly lurched forward through the garage door! At no time did I lift my foot from the brake from the time I slowed the vehicle to enter the driveway. My husband can attest to this. In fact, he told me he was about to remove his seat belt, as he expected we would come to a stop. THe car ended up crashing through the back wall of the garage causing extensive damage. The air bags did not deploy either. I cannot explain why the vehicle would suddenly accelerate while my foot remained on the brake. I am now being sued by the homeowners insurance company. Fortunately no one was hurt nor killed. I filed a claim initially with avis two days later and asked for a report or dcm download of the brake system. Their ins. co. is named Sedgwick and I have followed up with their reps and no one can tell me if the brakes were checked and what was found. I have never been in a crash in my life and this is extremely upsetting. No one is getting back to me. Can you please help? - #11540756August 25, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The car was being driven on US287 south from Wichita Falls, TX toward Fort Worth, Texas on an open road, in the middle of the afternoon, in clear sunshine, no clouds, no rain. On a stretch of the highway where the road dipped down into a gully, and had a normal rise afterwards, the automatic braking system activated, gave a warning of an impending collision and applied the brakes to stop the car HARD. Luckily, there was no traffic ahead or behind the vehicle at the time of the incident. The car came almost to a stop before it realized that there was no danger ahead of the vehicle and the automatic braking system released from the emergency situation at about 5 mph. If there had been cars on the highway following the vehicle, it is doubtful that they would have been able to slow down in time to prevent a rear end collision. The vehicle was slowed down in a maximum breaking action on an open highway, with an open road ahead of the vehicle. The system interpreted a hill ahead of the car as a danger to be avoided.

- #11532235July 14, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
The Lane keeping assist used in radar cruise control mode during some drive cycles will attempt to maintain the vehicle position to the far extreme of the lane and in some cases actively veer out of the lane. My safety ant others can be put at risk when the vehicle behaves outside of its design parameters like this. To solve the issue the vehicle must be pulled over, turned off, then restarted. After the restart it will resume functioning normally, maintaining lane positioning as intended within the limits of the system. The trigger for this is unknown but could be speculated that it is drive cycle dependent and may start during initialization. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer or service center due to its intermittent nature. There are no warning indicators or lamps on when this occurs.

Problem is with what Toyota calls the Combination meter of the Instrument Cluster. Problem is that displayed icons are washed out and/or unreadable under conditions of normal sunny skies. (There is no problem during darkness or overcast skies). Specifically, (going from left to right), "Headlight high beam indicator," "Shift position indicators," "Cruise control indicator," and Passenger Air Bag status indicators are washed out or unreadable. The result is that important safety information is denied to the driver. Toyota of Nashua has inspected my concerns and agrees my observations are accurate but further states this situation is the same for all 2022 Priuses and no safety recall or service bulletin has been issued by Toyota.
