The car was in for (Aug 2022) annual safety and emissions state (PA) inspection and normal maintenance. Last performed Aug 2021. I was told that the car failed safety inspection because the Rear SubFrame had rusted through. A hole was present not just surface rust. The car has 58,000 miles and garage kept. The car was just (June 2022) in for all 4 wheel brakes replaced along with 4 tires. There hasn’t been any recall on this and they quoted Repair price of$5,400 and expect me to pay $1,000 towards that replace and repair. My question is clearly this is an inferior part. I’ve since investigated that recalls have been issued for the C model but not on the E which I own. If my car was in for inspection 12 mos ago and in for brakes 3 mos ago how long did it take to rust through? We’re talking about a hole not surface rust. I can’t believe that the hole just appeared anyway but within the time last safety inspection occurred. Why do I maintain the service recommendations and have safety concern that the manufacture will not own up to and that me and my family are at risk of an accident. I’n fact the service manager admitted that he is seeing more and more of theses failures.

My car has this issue that when I am slowing down it will automatically shift to park and will not let me shift to drive until I turn the car off and on. When rolling to a stop, I've had a few instances where the car shifts to park and the car behind me almost hits me due to the car shifting on its own and not allowing me to proceed with the flow of traffic. This puts not only me, but the person behind me at risk. I took the car to a mechanic and he stated that there was no recall for this issue but that I should contact you (NHTSA). The mechanic stated that the component that might be failing is the electrical ignition switch, basically telling the car that there is no key in the ignition. There are no warning lights or any other indication. This has happened to me a multiple times. When this happens, since I am not at a complete stop, it shifts to park and grinds my transmission. This causes the car to abruptly stop without having my foot on the brake to warn the drivers behind me.

My family has owned this vehicle since 2013 when it was purchased from the local Mercedes dealership as certified pre-owned. In the past few years, we have had to have several of the rear brake lines replaced due to rust. The last time, we were told by the mechanic that the complete rear subframe would have to be replaced due to rust. Specifically the attachment points from the subframe to the rear suspension have completely rusted through. I contacted the dealership where the car was purchased. They stated they are aware of this issue on almost all of the cars of that period but offered no solution other than a repair of $5,000. Many of the cars of that era and class have serious rust issues but Mercedes chooses to do nothing about it. This is a serious safety issue because the entire rear suspension and brakes attach to the subframe and could come loose at any point while driving. I would like this to be repaired by the manufacturer. Thank you

The vehicle will intermittently go into limp mode with a max speed of 45mph. At a stop vehicle will not accelerate FWD unless transmission is put into park and the vehicle turned off and then re-started. Professional diagnosis suggests the transmission needs to be replaced and this is common for cars with 100k miles or more. Only a Mercedes Authorized Technician with a real time connection to a Mercedes Server can properly perform this task. This is a sub par design that creates a safety hazard. The repair procedure coupled with the frequency of this serious failure makes this vehicle a Lemon. Mercedes Benz Is Totally Responsible.

February 22, 2022 I was driving from Memphis, TN to Flower Mound,TX. It was raining really bad and once I got to Texas on University Ave. My brakes went completely out. I had to shut the car off to stop. Shortly after I heard about a recall involving this same matter but it was for 2006 Mercedes SUV. However after reading the recall the same thing happened to me E350. I had to pay over $2000 on this repair. I feel I am entitled to be refunded. I also had to get the car towed home. I have tow record and repair record. And you should be able to research the weather on that date from Memphis to Texas. Please give me a response at [XXX] or email me at [XXX]. The Rear Subframe Unit of this 2014 E-Class E212 is diagnosed as rusted and rotted out on this 8 year old vehicle. The poor quality of this part from Mercedes Benz is known to be an underlying, hidden risk factor to the stability of the vehicle. This is a hidden/underlying area of the vehicle, not visible to the driver/owners, that without cause, can break free from the main frame structure of the vehicle and create a stability factor when cornering and braking, causing swaying of the rear and owner panic when abruptly stopping. I had this vehicle serviced at Catonsville Mercedes-Benz since I purchased the vehicle on April 14, 2017. On my last visit on December 19, 2019 having only 40,051 miles. No physical evidence know to me during this inspection. The vehicle has been hardly used. My next service was done on July 28,2022, having only 49,250 miles. That's just 9,299 miles and just over 2 years later, no harsh weather conditions, and the dealership has confirmed that this subframe has rotted out and rusted nearly thru. The service writer informed me that this is a serious condition that can break apart and lead to a very serious accident. Depending on certain driving conditions, if this breaks apart unknowingly, can be catastrophic. Mercedes Benz advertised greatly the ultimate safety features of its products, only to be realized, that it has used poor quality galvanized steel on a major structure of its framework to save cost. Mercedes provides a 3 year/36,000 mile and a 5 year 50,000 mile powertrain warranty which neither covers this. Galvanized steel has a life expectancy of 6 to 8 years resulting in deterioration, which Mercedes knowingly intends to pass this repair cost to the owners. This vehicle was inspected by a certified authorized Mercedes Benz dealership. Warning lights, message sensors are not installed on this part. No other parts surrounding this component show any signs of rust, rot or deterioration. I feel unsafe to drive or place family within.

I do not know what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and my vehicle has been inspected. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk, because my vehicle was speeding in reverse and not responding to my multiple braking. The Dealership informed me that they did not find or detect any malfunction at all. Mercedes Benz performed a "full inspection on my vehicle". There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the incident.

Car was being driven at secondary road speed (~40MPH). Engine suddenly began to spudder and misfire terribly. Came to a stop light engine was idled roughly. Accelerated from stop, when check engine light turned on. Car went into limp MODE at a very dangerous rail road crossing and left turn intersection. Without acceleration, family was in danger of being hit by train and incoming traffic. Took car to Mercedes mechanic. Faulty parts were the Camshaft Position Solenoid valve, ignition cool. Short circuit in one part caused blown ignition fuse and cascading mechanical problems and safety risks. Repair cost so far is $1,100. Concern is the placement of the faulty part. It is exposed to high heat in the motor compartment and poses a fire hazard as well as a personal injury hazard to the occupants and driver.
