Power steering would not work. Luckily I was pulling into my own driveway when this happened. The car was brought to the nearest Jeep dealership which I was then told they could do nothing about and no problem was visible on the computer or when they drove the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to me with no resolution.

On November 6, 2025 at 11:59 AM, the active head restraint on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited deployed without impact as I adjusted the driver’s seat into an upright position. This was a spontaneous mechanical deployment inside the cabin of a stationary vehicle. The dealership confirmed this as a known failure involving the internal plastic retaining clip that holds the deployment pin. This defect was previously covered under a 10-year extended warranty that expired in November 2024. At the time of the incident, I was alone in the vehicle. I later sought medical evaluation for head, neck, shoulder, and lower back pain and was diagnosed with a cervical strain. Because this failure occurs without collision, it presents a serious risk of injury to drivers and passengers. I regularly spend time with elderly individuals in personal, non-commercial contexts and occasionally transport others in my personal vehicle. In such a population, an in-cabin mechanical deployment of this force could cause catastrophic injury. The manufacturer and warranty programs have declined to assist with repair due to expiration despite acknowledging this as a known defect. Estimated repair cost is approximately $1,000. I am submitting this report for documentation, safety tracking, and defect pattern analysis. My Jeep Cherokee 4xe is under an open safety recall for a high-voltage battery defect that can cause a fire while the vehicle is parked, charging, or driving. The manufacturer’s instructions require owners to NOT charge the battery and to NOT park the vehicle indoors or near structures. This makes the vehicle unsafe to store or operate. Stellantis has no remedy or repair timeline available. When I contacted Stellantis, they refused to escalate the case or provide assistance. The vehicle poses a serious fire hazard, and I am unable to use it for its intended purpose. I am requesting NHTSA review due to the severity of the safety risk and lack of remedy.

Complaint Summary: 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe — Battery fire risk recall, instructed not to charge the vehicle, not to park near structures, and no repair available. Description: My 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is under multiple safety recalls, including a serious battery fire risk. Jeep is telling owners not to charge the battery, not to park the vehicle near structures or anything that could catch fire, and that there is no repair available. This removes the primary functionality of the vehicle and creates a significant safety hazard. My wife is currently pregnant, and we are extremely concerned about the risk of a vehicle fire at our home. We have spent thousands of dollars on this vehicle, and it cannot be used as intended or stored safely. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate and hold the manufacturer accountable for providing an immediate resolution.

- #11704008December 9, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed and approaching a stopped vehicle, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking system failed to engage, and the driver needed to depress the brake pedal at the last minute to stop the vehicle. The contact performed a test of the automatic emergency braking system. The contact stated that while two individuals were holding a beige sheet, the contact drove towards the sheet at 70 MPH, and the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking system failed to engage while the vehicle was near the sheet, and the vehicle struck the sheet. The contact then drove towards the sheet at 6 MPH and struck the sheet, then the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking beeping sound engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact provided the recording of the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking system failure to engage as needed; however, the contact was informed that no failure was found. The Service Director at the dealer informed the contact that the engineers for the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was functioning as designed. The manufacturer called the contact and offered monetary compensation to keep the vehicle; however, the contact declined the compensation and requested a trade or buy back assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer offered to trade the vehicle for a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact test drove the vehicle with a staff member from the dealer inside the vehicle, and the vehicle experienced the same failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200.

I am leasing this vehicle for 3 more years. This vehicle has been nothing but trouble since day 1. Last winter it stopped running on the interstate during a blizzard and I had to coast in traffic to the side of the highway. They have come out with more recalls stating the batteries can catch on fire and the engine can catch on fire with no remedy to fix them. I can't plug it in, even though it's an EV. And they're saying to park outside away from structures. It is the middle of winter right now. I shouldn't have to park outside. I don't feel safe in this vehicle. If no fix, they should be replacing these vehicles with no penalties.

Transmission line has worn a hole from the location it sits under the jeep. The metal hose now has a flat spot. This is because its rubbing on the metal plate below it. I attached photos. I do have a video of what we are seeing and how it’s happening. Yes, it was taken to a dealership for proper diagnosis. Part is unavailable, because of a common issue. No dealership’s are willing to sell the part. It just stated leaking drives fine for now.

The active head restraint deployed September 30, 2025 overnight while my Jeep was parked on my driveway. The restraint has not been repaired and is available for inspection. If this head restraint would have deployed while driving with my wife I believe it would have injured her. I believe there is a defective part in the head restraint. I brought it to the dealer where I purchased the Jeep. I was told there was and extended warranty but it ended Sept. 25, 2024 so my active head restraint is not covered. I was never notified by FCA or the dealer about this extended warranty. There was no warning that addressed this issue. I spoke with numerous Customer Service Specialists about my situation and they said I would have to purchase a replacement head restraint.
