VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I was pulling into a parking space at my church, same place I routinely parked. I was moving forward slowly with foot on brake alternating lifting foot to move forward until I was all the way in. As I lifted my foot from the brake, the car suddenly accelerated forward, going over the cement parking block, on to the grass and sidewalk before it stopped. Two metal handrails along the steps into the larger parking lot. Fortunately, no one was hit or injured, including myself. The result was major damage of the left side. Aside from the exterior, the car worked as it always has. I reported the collision to my insurance company, State Farm, and they directed me to a Hyundai repair shop. I know the fault was not mine for 3 reasons: 1) Once I turn into a spot to park, I always move slow, using the method mentioned above. I never use the gas pedal once I'm facing straight in the parking space; 2) My word would, of course, not be enough to relieve me of the responsibility for what happened. However, if I had stepped on the gas, though I know I didn't, the car would not be able to go from just stopping its forward move to the sudden and very fast acceleration that normally would require several seconds to reach that speed; and, 3) This was the 2nd time sudden acceleration happened, the 1st time was in June 2024 during a 3-point turn on a residential street. I completed the turn, ready to go forward, when the car suddenly and rapidly accelerated, jumping a curb and hitting a fire hydrant. My left front grill sustained damage, but since the car worked well, I did not report this to State Farm, waiting until I was willing to pay the deductible. This 2nd episode had me researching the Internet to see if there were others who experienced sudden accelerating with resulting fatalities. I believe my car has a defect and gives no warning when it will occur. My driving record is excellent. I don't speed and I drive defensively. My 2 brothers and 2 male in-laws said I'm a good driver

Engine makes rattling and knocking noises. Transmission hesitates and jerks Suspension front struts and rear shocks are bad. Possible the isolators. Having horrible back pain when riding in car. Starter intermittently doesn't work Lane keep assistance goes over small bump in road will make car drive in opposite lane into on coming traffic. Took car to Tameron hyundai in Birmingham on the 29th of December 2025. Told them everything thats going on with the car. They did nothing about any of the issues. Car has 55,000 miles on it as that is when all problems have incurred. 60000 mile Warranty expires in February of this year.

I was driving my 2021 Hyundai Sonata at approximately 3:00 AM when the vehicle suddenly began shaking and vibrating. While stopped at a traffic light, the check engine light illuminated, and the engine was shaking severely. I immediately pulled over and shut off the engine. After waiting approximately one hour, I restarted the vehicle, but it was only able to drive very slowly. The following day, the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop. Diagnostic testing showed a cylinder 3 misfire, along with EVAP system errors and faulty fuel injector issues. This failure occurred without warning and created a potential safety risk while driving. I am concerned this may be related to a defective fuel system.

Please see Attachment To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally notify you under the Virginia Motor Vehicle Warranty Enforcement Act (Virginia Lemon Law, Va. Code §§ 59.1-207.9 to 59.1-207.16) that my 2021 Hyundai Sonata, has a nonconformity that substantially impairs its use, value, or safety. On June XX, 2025 I delivered my vehicle to Pearson Hyundai for repair due to the fuel pump recall. As of today September XX, 2025 the vehicle has been out of service for more than 89 days, well beyond the 30-day threshold set by Virginia law. Despite this, the manufacturer has failed to complete the required recall repair in a reasonable amount of time. This constitutes a violation of my rights under Virginia’s Lemon Law. Therefore, I am formally demanding relief as provided by law: Repurchase of my vehicle for the full contract price, including taxes, fees, and incidental charges, less a reasonable allowance for use, OR Replacement with a comparable new vehicle acceptable to me. Please respond in writing within 15 days of receipt of this letter. If this matter is not resolved, I will be forced to escalate through the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and, if necessary, legal action.

My 2022 Hyundai sonata hybrid started blowing white smoke from the exhaust. Took it to the dealership and was advised the valve that controls antifreeze failed and leaking antifreeze in exhaust. This caused the engine to overheat and would cause the engine to blow up. My car has 83,000 and was told the manufacturer warranty only covered to 80,000 and extended warranty would not cover the part. Was told it would cost 2659 to fix. This is part of the hybrid power train and should be covered under the 100,000 Hyundai warranty. I have seen the same issue with other sonata hybrids on the internet that is doing the same as mine. Hyundai needs to recall for this since it is a needed component for the engine.

On January 6, 2026, during my morning commute in heavy traffic, my 2023 Hyundai Sonata engine unexpectedly turned off, causing a sudden loss of power. This created an extremely dangerous situation, and I came very close to being involved in a major collision. While I was fortunate to avoid a crash, the incident posed a direct threat to my safety and life because of the dense surrounding traffic.

Hello Sir/Madam, While driving on Interstate I-75 at approximately 70 mph, the yellow check engine warning light suddenly illuminated. Immediately afterward, the vehicle began to shake violently, lose engine power, and run extremely rough. The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power, and pressing the accelerator pedal did not result in normal response or acceleration. The throttle input was significantly reduced, making it difficult to maintain speed and safely control the vehicle. At highway speed and in heavy highway traffic, if we had not been able to safely exit the roadway, this loss of control could have put not only the occupants of this vehicle but also other drivers at serious risk. Fortunately, we were already in the exit lane, and a McDonald’s parking lot was located immediately off the exit. This allowed us to leave the highway quickly. Otherwise, this situation could have been extremely dangerous in active, heavy highway traffic. As the vehicle continued to shake, a strong smell of gasoline and a burning odor entered the cabin, raising concerns about a possible fire hazard. We safely stopped the vehicle in the McDonald’s parking lot and then shut the engine off due to the severity of the symptoms. After shutting the vehicle off, we attempted to restart it, but the engine would not start. The vehicle had to be towed to a Hyundai service center for inspection. The Hyundai service center later confirmed that the failure was caused by a faulty fuel injector, and they have changed all 4 injectors as I attached receipt from Hyundai This failure created a serious safety risk due to sudden loss of engine power, reduced accelerator response, severe shaking at highway speed, and fuel and burning odors inside the cabin. I own a 2021 Hyundai Sonata 1.6T, which has an open NHTSA safety recall (25V796000) related to fuel tank pressurization and fire risk. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership due to a check engine light, reduced performance, and DTC P14EE, which aligns with the recall condition. The dealership refused to treat the concern as recall-related unless I paid a diagnostic fee and later attempted to reclassify the issue as a customer-pay fuel pump repair. During this visit, the dealership replaced a fuel system sensor without my authorization, which I did not approve or consent to. The dealership has not provided documented test results explaining how the recall condition was ruled out and has not documented recall inspection on the repair order. I expressed that I do not feel safe driving the vehicle due to the fuel system recall and drivability issues. The dealership also refused to provide alternate transportation. I am concerned the recall is not being handled in compliance with NHTSA requirements and that unauthorized repairs were performed while attempting to shift a recall-related condition to the customer. I am requesting review of recall handling and dealer compliance.

NHTSA: #25V796000 Recall: #286 2020-23MY SONATA (DN8/DN8A) FUEL TANK Issued on 11/18/2025 and there is no remedy yet for this issue. Hyundai of Ocala has not issued me a loaner car. What am I supposed to do? It’s been over a month since the recall was posted and still no remedy. I’m concerned for mine and my families safety. This car is our only means of transportation. I need a solution

The vehicle's emergency brack system is malfunctioning. There have been several instances where the car's emergency brack went on while no coalition was going to happen. Several instances as well happened while in reverse the emergency bracks went on without there being anything behind the vehicle.

My 2022 Sonata has had to have its fuel injectors replaced two times in the 3 years I've had it. On 12/18/2025 My car started to become very slow and could not reach over 20mph, and started to smell like gasoline and shake slightly. I had to get it towed to the hyundai dealership and there they told me that the fuel injectors need replacing. I had the same exact problem with this car before where I had to get the car towed to hyundai and then they had to replace the fuel injector.

My car was having an issue where it was losing all the coolant, causing my engine to overheat twice while driving down the highway. Unfortunately I couldn't find a leak anywhere and there was no fluid leaking in my garage. I lost an entire reservoir of coolant overnight. After taking my car to the dealership to get repaired, I was told that it was leaking my coolant into the exhaust system and burning it up. I was also told "it was a know issue, they had a bulletin from Hyundai on how to fix the problem, and Hyundai completely redesigned the part to stop the leak and it had to be special ordered." I was without my car for a week and left with a $1300 bill as apparently it was not covered by my warranty. I have no idea how a known issue is happening so frequently that requires a nationwide bulletin and a part redesign, yet somehow is recalled. Especially considering it left me stranded on the side on the side of the highway in Indiana during a snow storm but someone seriously needs to investigate it.

Car has been running great. We ave had the car almost 3 months. My wife drove the car to church. On the way home the car engine started acting up. She pulled over and called me. I went to where she was about 1 mile from home . My son and I got the car started it would not hardly run we got it home. It was running roughly and smelled like gas making white smoke. A rollback truck picked it up the next day. Took it to the closest dealer in cape Girardeau mo. It has been in the shop3 weeks found out today it will be over another week before Hyundai gets in touch with the dealer about the problem. (Injectors)

I am reporting a serious coolant system defect on my 2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with about 13,500 miles. The vehicle develops an internal coolant leak while driving. Coolant burns off and white steam/smoke comes out of the exhaust, especially during acceleration. When this happens, the coolant level drops quickly, the interior heater stops working, and the car soon displays an engine overheating warning, forcing me to stop driving. This has happened multiple times and makes the vehicle unsafe. When I checked under the hood, coolant was at a low/empty level after overheating events. The car becomes undriveable once the alarm appears. I took the vehicle to a Hyundai dealer, and even though the vehicle is only 2 years old, they told me it was “out of warranty.” I had to pay about $1,500 for repairs, and since the dealer refused a loaner, I paid $250 for a rental car. I called Hyundai USA on 9/13/2025 and opened Case Number XXX. Hyundai acknowledged they are aware of coolant issues on the Sonata Hybrid but said no recall exists. This issue appears widespread. Many other owners report the same symptoms: white exhaust steam, coolant smell, coolant loss, no interior heat, and engine overheating. Hyundai released TSB 23-EM-009H, describing a failure where coolant leaks internally in the Exhaust Heat Recovery System (EHRS), causing white smoke and overheating—matching my symptoms exactly. This defect is a safety hazard because overheating can occur suddenly while driving, risking engine damage or breakdown in traffic.
