While driving my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport at approx 50 mph, i notice the vehicle sputtering & slightly jerking as I was going up an incline on a tall bridge. I barely made it to the top when the engine light came on & the engine failed & thankfully was able to coast downhill & pull off on the side of the road. I tried several times to restart the car to no avail. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanics shop. I had already been warned by them during an oil change that my vehicle was using excessive oil & to be watchful of that which I had been. I was using about 2 quarts of oil per week prior to t he engine failing. There were NO LEAKS, the oil was just blowing through. After changing all cylinders, the engine was still not working and I was told a new engine would be needed. (I had had cylinders replaced BEFORE I knew this was going to be such a big deal) I had the vehicle towed to Hyundai Dealership in Daphne AL where weeks and weeks of inspections and negotiations went on, all to be denied repair or replacement. Hyundai knows this engine is a problem but will use any excuse to get out of replacing it. Time to file a complaint. There are MANY out there just like me, just not enough to have an official recall I guess. A recall should definitely be considered. My car has been sitting for 4 months while I tried to negotiate with Hyundai but now I have no choice but to buy an engine & have it installed. VERY FRUSTRATED!

There is a system in the car that starts and stops engine, supposedly only at lights to save on fuel. Mine has stopped in the middle of a highway on my way up to Tahoe. Luckily I had just left light and only driven enough to reach the speed of about 10 miles per hour so the cars behind me were able to stop and not hit me. I had to completely turn the car off, put in park and restart car to get it to operate. It has stalled out like a stick shift would if not handled properly, but it is an automatic transmission, on numerous times. Sometimes this will cause the vehicle to completely shut down and sometime it will sputter for a few minutes and then slowly pick speed up and stop. The IGS button to turn this feature on and off when you get into the vehicle will sometimes stay off (not supposed to) and sometimes turn back off as it is supposed to each time the vehicle is turned on or off. It doesn't register as a recall, but I have done my research and saw that at one point you guys had done an investigation into this exact problem with my car. It doesn't show up on diagnostic and it doesnt do this every time I drive. So I have no way to show mechanics the isues. But this puts my life and anyone in my cars lives at risk. Not to mention any cars behind me if this happens on the highway again. I dont know what to do :( Can you please help me?

For months there was a knocking/rattling sound coming from under my hood… I never got my oil changed at Hyundai. I always went to 10 minute express for my oil changes. The one time i do decide to go to Hyundai for an oil change/ inspection my car engine seizes 2 months later. Found out it seized due to no oil, there was no low oil pressure light on no warning light nothing. Hyundai doesn’t and won’t fix the issue. Mind you I’ve been keeping my car maintenance every 3 months when it comes to an oil change. The day i decide to use Hyundai is the reason why my car stopped working. After taking the dead car to Hyundai they said after 200,000 miles the engine drinks a lot of oil. Again nobody told me this til after. I’m very upset with Hyundai cause they don’t see their fault in this. Since I’m not the original owner it’s nothing they can do. I got extended warranty on it and it was a waste of money

- #11571833February 14, 2024ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving and accelerating from 10-30 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, and while starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced, and the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V578000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

I had the recall done for the rusty frame and sub floor, to arrest the rust. The frame is now rusted through. I have a hole big enough to put my fist in. I call Hyundai customer care center Case #[XXX]. When driving this car if the frame breaks I will lose control of the car and crash. The car was just at Van Horn Hyundai Sheboygan WI they did the valve cover gasket recall. They pointed the rust on the frame. I was told by Carlos the car was too old, had to many miles to be taken care of it. They did valve cover gasket recall. The car runs and looks great. The car is not a rusted out piece of junk. It is sitting in the driveway because I am afraid to drive it. I am concerned about this car and how many others are driving around not knowing about this problem. The driver side seat belt crosses at my neck. I have adjusted it as much as it will adjust and it still cuts into my neck. I am very concerned that if I am in an accident it will choke me or even decapitate me. In addition it is very uncomfortable but I am mostly concerned about the safety issue. I have not brought the issue to the dealer and I am unaware of any actual instances of injury happening. I assume you have access to that information.

The car was idling for about 30 mins as I waited for delivery of groceries at curbside pickup. I put the car in drive but the motor did not kick on. I was able to drive on electrical power until the hybrid battery died. I lost complete power in the middle of the Interstate but I was able to coast to the shoulder. I had a check engine light and other warning lights on the dashboard but they went away when I restarted the car

I have always taken good care of my car, regular oil changes, kept coolant levels up etc. I was driving home from work when my car began to overheat, so I immediately pulled over and turned it off. Made an appointment with a mechanic, had it towed there due to overheating, and found out my engine was blown completely. No prior issues.

- #11571466February 12, 2024POWER TRAIN, ENGINE, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Recent cold weather starts in the morning (40-50 degrees fahrenheit) have caused my car to have poor or stalled acceleration. It will occasionally not go past 20 or 40 mph while the RPMs rev high. The DTC error code would read P2565 as a pending code. An independent mechanic changed out my transmission fluid and switched out my boost pressure sensor but the problem is still there. Hyundai says that they need to replicate the problem but it does not occur when I take it to them so it's very hard to have this intermittent issue diagnosed by them. This is a very dangerous issue in my opinion if your cars engine revs high without accelerating and can potentially cause serious accidents and injury. I know I'm not the only person experiencing this issue as I've read on online forums of other car owners describing the same issue. Please issue a safety recall before someone is seriously injured or dies as a result of this intermittent issue.

Recall on below since September 2023 and they still have no remedy/fix available. Due to fire hazard I'm unable to park my car in my garage or near the house & says could cause fire while driving. How long is deemed unacceptable for no fix provided? Recall: THE SUBJECT VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ("ABS") MODULES THAT COULD LEAK BRAKE FLUID INTERNALLY AND CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT OVER TIME. AN ELECTRICAL SHORT COULD RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT OVERCURRENT IN THE ABS MODULE INCREASING THE RISK OF AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE WHILE PARKED OR DRIVING. NHTSA Recall #23V651000. While driving in rush hour on interstate 75 on my way to work, my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe completely shut off without any warning lights or indication of any problems. I had to drift without power in my vehicle to the far right shoulder over 4 lanes of traffic. I was towed to a Hyundai dealership who confirmed my engine seized due to a rod bearing issue. A rod was thrown due to engine wearing bear.

- #11570923February 8, 2024AIR BAGS, SEATS
I have seen this be reported online, but apparently it only covers the KIA Model, not the hyundai model. But the ODS Mat/Bladder defect in our passenger seat in our Hyundai Santa Fe 2016. Drops Codes B149000 and B1764 - this causes our air bag light to come on. This flipped on around 70k miles but because we are the second owner, we have to foot the bill out of pocket. Its asinine to think that we have to replace the entire seat and that Hyundai doesnt see this as a problem for them. Hyundai looked at our car, and again they stated we have to fix it ourselves - or pay them. They confirmed it. The problem is, it shuts our air bags off meaning if we dont foot the $2000-$3000 to replace it, our air bags just wont deploy. Thats a massive security risk. This seems to be a problem with various Hyundai and Kia models, but apparently only SOME models with the same codes get to be replaced. Ridiculous. Attached are various issues by Hyundai, Kia, with the same issue across various models. Here is the link to the same issues in a different model of Kia/Hyundai Cars [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The engine has always burned oil very quickly in my opinion. The engine seized despite regular use. The vehicle was just outside of warranty so we have to pay for a new engine.
