- #11554852November 13, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
I'm surprised there are no safety recalls on this vehicle given how Cruise Control operates & how close to the Cruise Control toggle switch the steering wheel is indented for hand placement at 10 a.m./2 p.m.We purchased a 2023 IONIQ 5 on 02/25/2023.When the vehicle was delivered to us we were not told that the cruise control does not disengage when the brake pedal is applied. It merely pauses. There is nothing in the owner's manual that addresses cruise control operation. In any other vehicle we have owned, including other Hyundai vehicles, cruise control cancels when the brake pedal is depressed.Without proper training/information & without cruise control being addressed in the owner's manual we had no way of knowing this.2 months after purchasing the vehicle, while pulling into a parking space driving 3 MPH I stepped on the gas & the vehicle returned to the previously set cruise control of 45 MPH.Whereupon it went over a parking bumper, landscaping, curb, $ into a busy street, scraping the passenger rear portion of the vehicle & damaging the wheel. We took the vehicle to the dealership, Larry H. Miller on 05/03/2023. They were unable to duplicate the mishap. The GM of the dealership indicated that in all probability what occurred was inadvertent touch of the toggle switch. He indicated that this unique cruise control operation was experienced by others, including himself. On 05/24/203, he recommended we contact Hyundai Motors USA to report the incident.Doing so resulted in numerous phone conversations, emails, and 2 inspections of the vehicle. Finally, on 10/19/2023 we were advised in a HMAUSA letter of resolution that said, "no manufacturing defect was identified." They are refusing to pay the $2,247.92 repair bill (on 04/26/23.May be higher now due to rising costs.)We maintain the incident occurred due to a design flaw & unique cruise control operation. We not only want Hyundai to pay for the repairs, we want the NHTSA to investigate so this won't happen to anyone else.

Stop vehicle and check battery supply error and the car died. No power whatsoever. Likely linked with the faulty ICCU issue.

When driving my new Hyundai ionic 5, the dashboard display is set up such that when I am in my preferred seating position, and my hands at 10 and 2 on the steering wheel, I cannot see the spedometer reading. I basically don't know how fast I'm going and less I change my hand position or move my head. This requires a fair more amount of time for me to take my attention off the road. This is not an isolated incident. I have asked my friends, who range in height from 5'2 to 6 ft 3 to do the same thing. They all report the same problem when they are in their preferred seating position. I am also noted many complaints about the same issue on the ionic 5 internet boards. This problem is caused solely by Hyundai's choice of a main display layout. This is the way it is laid out from the factory, and there is no way to change the speedometer position on the main display as a user.

Every so often when I am driving on the highway, the car just looses power and I may catch a message that flashes on my display, "Emergency Braking". The event last no longer than about a second. When this phantom braking happens, so far, it has not been so severe to feel dangerous just unsettling!

The car driving selector order is Drive, Neutral, Reverse which is the wrong order. It should be Reverse, Neutral, Drive, which is the same for all the cars I have driven since the late 1960's. In fact, the Hyundai Santa Fe has the correct order. Also, my Volvo XC60 has the correct order. I thought that your standard 571.102 addressed this problem. I am having the same problem selecting the wrong drive when I go from my Volvo to the Ioniq 5.

I started getting the error Electric Vehicle System error in my month old Ioniq 5. After driving a few miles, the air conditioning stopped working completely. And after a few more miles, the vehicle started to throttle down the speed to 20-25mph that too on the I95 with a 65mph speed limit. Had to turn on the emergency lights and drive slowly till I reached my destination. After googling for a while, I found that this issue is related to the ICCU failure that is pretty common in the Ioniq 5 and Hyundai is yet to issue a permanent fix for this problem. I don’t know why we are allowing the sale of these vehicles with known issues. You can even Reddit the ICCU issue.

The car suddenly showed a warning on the screen asking me to park and in a few seconds went completely dead. It won't start at all. I can't even unlock the car. I had to call roadside assistance and have them tow the car to Ideal Hyundai dealership in Frederick, MD. It's been 4 days and the dealership can't diagnose the problem or won't communicate what the issue is.

I charge my vehicle using a home 48 amp charger. After about 10 months of ownership. I began to receive “charging unsuccessful”notifications after about ten of charging at the Maximum charging speed. I reduced the charging rate to Reduced and was able to charge continuously to 90% a couple times at that rate. However, I began to receive “charging unsuccessful” notifications at this rate as well and had to lower the charging rate to Minimum in order to charge continuously. I can not charge the vehicle at 48 amps and the vehicle can only charge at 5.7 kwh, rather than the expected 11.5 kwh. The vehicle has been repaired four times. I cannot take the car on long trips, or for intensive use, where I would need to quickly charge to car in order to continue using it. As this issue appears to be progressive, when will the car fail to charge at even the Minimum rate? When I am on the road at a remote charging station? When I have an emergency and need to use it?

- #11550946October 20, 2023POWER TRAIN, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Driving on freeway when adaptive cruise control turns off and had a sudden complete loss of acceleration, we had steering and brakes only. Sudden reduction of car speed in traffic could cause accident. Has only happened once in 20k miles. (no acceleration) Adaptive cruise control shuts off for no reason, but dealer couldn't replicate. In recent 8k trip we photographed warning on dash 17 + times after shut down. Dealer couldn't find any saved trouble codes for this. No warnings prior to any occurrence only after, dash turned off on acceleration loss.

We had charged the Ionique 5 to 90% and driven for short trips. We parked it then went to do some errands about an hour later. The dashboard warned that the 12 V battery was almost completely discharged and that I should start the car by placing the key fob next to the start button. I did that but it didn't start. I pushed the off button and then tried again and it refused to start and the dashboard flashed somewhat erratically. The battery then went completely dead. We called the emergency roadside assistance and they came within 30 minutes but the person who arrived said he knew nothing about electric cars and so we asked him to leave. Later we searched the internet and found others have had the 12 V batteries discharge. We also learned it could be charged with a portable charger. We called the dealer as it was now Sunday. One of the salesforce managers reassured us that is was OK to use regular car chargers on the Ionique 12 volt battery. Our neighbor helped us do this and it then started working. We followed the internet (a blogger's) instructions to go to the utility site and put it in the mode that would make sure the 12 Volt battery was drawing on the main powertrain to completely charge. We left the car on for 30 minutes and then it seemed to be working normally. We did some errands and it continued to work well. The safety risk is if this had happened on the highway and away from home. The car was recently taken in for the scheduled recall of ? something before this happened. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to this incident. There was several months ago an episode when I was driving that the power seemed to decrease and I was unable to accelerate and drove about 2 miles on mostly city streets at about 20 miles per hour. After I shut the car off and then my husband tried to start it the next day, it worked fine--that was the only other incident. I did not report that and it did not recur.

Car: 4 month old 2023 Ioniq 5, Starting on September 12, 2023 my car would not take any charge AT ALL, effectively make my car useless as I am down to 10 miles of range. For the next several days I tried multiple chargers at different locations trying both 350 kW and 7kW chargers. Other cars were able to charge their cars immediately after I moved from the charger. I have read that the software update I am going to get will reduce my charging capacity rate to fully charge slower. This car is not performing at the stats I chose it for. I will not be able to use this car if it cannot take fast charge for a full charge. I was not made aware of this issue that was well known to Hyundai (they have been dealing with this issue with its earlier Ioniq models) before going forward with this car. Nor would I have decided on this car if this issue was known to me.

9/11 Saturday lease deal agreed 9/13 car picked up 9/23 Air conditioning stopped working and car throws a warning message requesting immediate service. 9/25 Parts required to fix the problem not available in the US or Canadian Hyundai Parts inventory and dealer does not know when they will get the parts. 10/3 Dealer advises no update on parts. Hyundai Customer Care notified today and is investigating. From what I can determine, this is the dreaded ICCU issue which plagued the 2022 Ioniq 5.

The vehicle lost traction power, failed to respond to presses to the accelerator and coasted to a stop. It gave no indication on the dash that there were any problems. Putting the car in park and then selecting drive again restored traction power and the car responded to pressing of the accelerator pedal. The car was not turned off and back on. During the incident: - The brakes, steering, air conditioning, radio and other electrical equipment continued to operate normally. - The car was configured for "Level 2" regen braking, but during the incident, when all pressure was removed from the accelerator pedal, the car did not "feel" like it slowed as normally did during Level 2 regen when there is no application of the accelerator. - The car was configured for "ECO" mode. The drive mode was switched to Normal and Sport during the incident but it had no effect. - The Power/Charge gauge on the dash neither indicated Power when the accelerator was pressed nor indicated Charge when coasting (as would be expected for Level 2 regen) or when the brake pedal was pressed. Car Information: - The car had about 75% charge and reported about ~260 miles of range. - The manufacturers app has not reported any "DTC" codes. - The car has no open recalls at this time. - Service Campaign 997 was completed August 23rd at dealer. - Service Campaign 9A1 was completed August 23rd at dealer. Additional Information: - A previous event similar to the above described event happened on August 21st where the vehicle lost traction power but gave no indication that anything was wrong. - Reported it to the dealer, but they were unable to find anything wrong or recreate the problem. - They applied the ICCU software update.

HELP! I now regret that I bought a Hyundai Ioniq 5. I hoped the recent campaign would fix my problem, but I think it is now worse. While driving my speed drops 3 to 4 miles per hour, then the car lurches forward to regain my speed. At first I thought it was when using cruise. Now the car does it on the highway even when not using cruise. When it starts dropping the speed, the accelerator is not responsive. I have to wait for the car to slow completely down before the throttle will respond. I do not notice the problem around town. It seems to cruise fine for about 50 miles and then begin to slow and speed up out of my control. I think it is a safety hazard. It certainly drives me and my passengers crazy. PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!!

Rear electric motor overheating on highway and motor shuts off only allowing front motor to work but acceleration is near nothing and is extremely dangerous. No codes or warnings pop up was told by friends with other ioniqs that it's a electric motor oil pump that malfunctions but hyundai refuses to solution ND realize that there is a problem with motor malfunction
