I bought my Ioniq 5 in April 2023, starting in June 2023 I started having issues with the internal navigation system locating my vehicle on a different route than I was actually on. When I connect to Apple CarPlay to be able to use Google Maps or Waze, it also throws my cell phone system off and will be taken into wrong streets. Vehicle navigation also detected me driving in the wrong direction alerting me not to enter the street. I took video and photos to the dealer starting in June 2023 for a few months. They first updated the software which took over 6 hours, and my car spent the night at the dealer. Unfortunately it did not resolve the problem, they then replaced the antennae also not resolved issue. They replaced the camera in front of the rear view mirror, also no resolution. Lastly they replaced the head unit under warranty. My car continues to have the same issues with navigation and recently while on the freeway and the navigation and Apple CarPlay were acting up, when i switched lanes it alerted me of a collision and car began to break while driving 65 miles per hour. This could have caused me to be rear ended if there would have been a vehicle behind me. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle which i depend on the navigation maps for my daily work. Currently i am avoiding driving on freeways to ensure the car does not suddenly brake and cause me to be rear ended. I contacted the dealer and they stated they have not detected the same issue on other Ioniq 5's sold at Puente Hills Hyundai in California. In researching through the internet, i found there are others experiencing the same issue. Dealer asked me to bring my car in once again, but i am not sure what they can do. Hyundai needs to figure out the issue on the Ioniq 5 navigation system and issue a recall to fix the safety glitch with the system.

I was driving 45 miles per hour on a 2 lane highway, when the car suddenly started beeping, lurched, and dropped to 25 miles per hour (low power mode). After pulling over at a gas station, I was able to run the car in this low power mode for a short time, and then the 12V battery completely died. The main battery in the car was at 78%. There was no warning light that this would happen before making that drive. I took the car in to the dealer and they informed me that the ICCU failed. I see that there is an investigation underway for the 2022 Ioniq 5, and that the 2023 Ioniq 5 has the same components. Please take this investigation seriously as if I were going on a faster highway or more cars were around, it could have resulted in a major accident. This car has just over 10,000 miles and was just purchased under a year prior at the time.

First indication something was going awry was when attempting to charge the car. Heard normal click indicating charge had started, but no audible announcement that charging had started. Car started throwing "Check electrical system," then power plummeted and became unresponsive to accelerator, followed by "Stop car. Check electrical system," then finally something like, "Battery is being discharged by external devices."** Car had to be towed about 60 miles to nearest Hyundai EV service center. Eight days later, I got a call from service saying that the ICCU needs to be replaced. They will update me once ETA of part is known.

Electrical system warning lights came on and loud alarm indicating the need to stop the vehicle immediately. Diagnosed by mechanic as ICCU failure and associated 12V battery issues—so, typical Ioniq5 problems. Just lucky I wasn’t driving on the highway.

- #11576374March 9, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
I was driving at night on a freeway marked as a 65mph speed limit. I had the adaptive cruise control turned on and set to automatically follow the road speed limit. There was intermittent rain at the time. Suddenly my car began to accelerate, but I was able to stop the acceleration by stepping on the brake to disengage cruise control. I tried re-engaging cruise control and it immediately accelerated strongly again. That is when I noticed the cruise control speed had been set to 85mph. I disengaged cruise control for the rest of my trip home and was able to drive normally. Subsequently I learned that the car detects speed limits by both map data and visually recognizing speed limit signs, so I assume it mis-identified a 65mph sign as 85mph. The auto speed feature set the cruise control speed to 85mph even though that is much higher than any possible speed limit in California. I disabled the auto speed feature of the adaptive cruise control and have not had any problem since then.

I attempted to drive my car to work. The car started but would not shift into gear. A red battery light indicator was on in the lower left corner of the screen. I contacted my dealer and they asked me to jump my car and bring it in. I did that. They indicated that my car had experienced ICCU failure and that a part would need to be ordered. The car had already been updated to address the ICCU failure, or so I thought. This is a known issue with 2022 models.

The vehicle made a loud popping noise and lost motive power. Dashboard lit up with battery symbol and said to check electric vehicle system. Dealer service is certain it is an ICCU failure. The vehicle had the software update to “fix” the ICCU issue thousands of miles ago.

The car loses power, slows down dramatically, and will not respond to the accelerator pedal. This failure has happened twice. The first time I was driving at about 40MPH on a side street when the car started slowing down with no warning and limped along at about 20MPH. I could not get it to move faster so I put my flashers on and made my way to the side of the street, pulled off of the road and shut the car off. When I restarted the car it drove normally. I reported the failure to Hyundai and they had never heard of this happening. They kept the car for 2 days and couldn't replicate the problem. That was about 2 months ago. Yesterday, 3/4/24, I was on the freeway going about 74MPH using the smart cruise control. I had just changed lanes when the car lost power and I got the message, "Smart cruise conditions not met." My speed dropped to the low 40's as other cars were whipping past me. Even though I floored the accelerator I got no response. I started the flashers, made my way to the right lane and got off on an exit ramp. I pulled off to the side of the ramp, parked the car and turned it off. Once again, when I restarted the car it performed normally. This is very dangerous! I could have easily been rear ended by another, faster car on the freeway since I slowed down so quickly without braking lights lighting. I brought it back to the dealer again today and they have kept it to run diagnostics. I don't expect that they will find any problem this time either.

Highway speed vibration of entire vehicle, particularly steering wheel and seats. This continues despite wheel balance, forced wheel balance and replacing all 4 tires. Multiple trips to dealer without improvement. Test drive of a new, same model vehicle with same or more road vibration at high speed. Numerous same complaints on internet forums.

12v battery died this morning. The car main battery had 77% state of charge and still the 12v failed. The main battery is supposed to charge 12v as long as it is above 20% state of charge. This seems to be a wide spread problem and Hyundai is not taking any pro active steps in resolving this. All recommended TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) has been applied on the car and car was serviced last week and passed the multipoint inspection.

My 2022 Ioniq 5 RWD died in my driveway in late February after first showing a "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning and limiting the vehicle's speed to 22mph while returning home from a short errand. I was initially able to at least turn the vehicle on, but the vehicle was completely non-responsive within two hours of returning home. If we had been traveling on the highway and/or far from home, we would have been in potential danger due to the low maximum speed and could have been stranded with a non-functioning vehicle due to the complete loss of power shortly after the initial incident. I ended up needing to have the vehicle towed to a dealership roughly 25 miles from my home. I was able to obtain a DTC before the vehicle died: (P1A90(96) [0x1A9096] Status: Test failed, Test failed (current drive cycle), Pending, Confirmed, Test failed since last DTC clear, Warning indicator requested). Since other Ioniq 5 owners have reported a similar problem, I suspected the problem to be a failed ICCU, and the dealership that is repairing the vehicle subsequently confirmed ICCU failure to be the problem. For reference, I had the ICCU software update installed in November of 2023.

3 issues: 1. 2 x, driving over a hundred miles the sensors get faults. None of the sensors work. Does not detect other cars. They updated my firmware, wiping the faults. 2. Once stopped at stop light, the sensors can start detecting items not there. 3. When parking the car does not detect items that are there. (I have video, dealerships so far refuses to fix) I am still trying to get them to fix it. Additional concern, talking to other drivers, they have similar issues and responses from the Hyundai dealerships. This is for both the Ioniq 5 and 6. Pictures: shows no other car image, or sensor detection. I took the picture a behind to give context. I can provide the videos if needed. Answers to question, separated with a comma: Yes, answered above, trying to get confirmed, the car has been inspected by Hyundai service center, and the errors were wiped by a update + reset.

I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5. I purchased it in July 2022 and have been driving it with no major issues except for a couple recall updates. On Monday, [XXX] I was driving home on the Highway when a warning light came on telling me to check EV Connection, it was an orange message. Then the light and message switched to red and displayed a battery symbol. The message said to stop vehicle and check power supply. My acceleration slowed down and I couldn't go above 25 mph despite attempts to speed up. There were many cars on the road when this happened, and I automatically turned on my emergency blinkers. There was a large 16-wheeler behind me that noted something was wrong and slowed down with his emergency lights blinking as well to support me. I panicked and found the nearest exit to come off the highway and before I could make it to the traffic light, the car shut off unexpectedly and completely stopped with no warning. Attempts to restart the vehicle did not yield positive results. After 2 hours of waiting for a tow truck in the middle of the road blocking traffic and waving people around my car, I was able to tow my vehicle to a dealership in NJ close by my house. As it was evening time, I left it at the dealership service center and dropped keys in drop box. I spent several days on the phone with Hyundai Service Center arguing to get my car checked as they told me that appointments were all booked, despite this being an emergency. I had no idea what was happening, but it was clearly inoperable, and I made that very clear. Finally, today, Thursday, [XXX] they confirmed that diagnostic testing showed ICCU failure. They advised that the part is on back-order, and they issued me a loaner for the time being. I have no idea how long this will take to fix. Luckily, I didn't have an accident, although very well could have with how quickly the issue escalated. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On 2/24/2024 I was driving my Hyundai Ioniq 5 and heard a pop from the backseat area. Immediately I lost power and was unable to move the car out of the lane of travel or put on my hazard lights. Prior to the pop sound there were no issues that would indicate something was wrong. The dealership confirmed my suspension that the ICCU failed. My car had the software update for the ICCU months prior to this incident. The dealer repaired the car under warranty so no one besides the dealer has seen the failed part.

Even though I had this recall for ICCU handled several months ago it didn't correct a problem, and on 02/07/2024 while driving 50 mph, a sudden pop occurred and the vehicle lost power and acceleration. I was able to pull over and shortly after 15 min, the vehicle died completely. After towing to the dealer, a few weeks later they told me that it was ICCU again and that the part needed to be changed. At this time they have no ETA for when the part will come!

Vehicle was taken to dealer for recall repair. Upon completion i made sure everything was good to go. And realized the navigation system was not updating. Service agent took it back and was advise it needed a 4 hour update. Car stayed overnight. Following day they informed me they couldn’t find the problem and were in contact with tech support. They were advice to just replace the navigation antenna. Dealer has place the order for the antenna. My only problem is while we wait for the antenna my car’s location is at a random place so if it where to be taken there wouldn’t be a way for me to know the location of it.

- #11573253February 22, 2024UNKNOWN OR OTHER, EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)
The navigation system in this car has an additional feature which is always enabled even if a destination is not programmed into the nav system which is supposed to warn drivers if they are going the wrong way on a highway. Intermittently the system erroneously indicates that the driver is going the wrong way. A voice warning is repeated issued and a warning symbol is displayed on the instrument panel. It is shocking, very distracting and frightening at first. Then it becomes a driver irritation, and eventually the driver tries to ignore the constant warnings, completely defeating the purpose of the safety feature. I’ve seen on the Ioniq forums where other drivers have reported this intermittent problem. Our local dealer would not check our car because the nav system was not failing at the time we brought it in. The problem can last for 5 minutes and then stop or can last for a duration of a car trip. For drivers unaware of this problem, they could easily be frightened enough to cause unsafe driving.

- #11573197February 21, 2024BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS
The collision detection and early warning system behaves in a manner that deceives the driver into believing a collision is imminent every time the car begins to reverse out of a normal parking spot you find in a parking lot. Despite the car knowing the vehicle is in the reverse gear the driver will begin receiving audible, visible, and haptic feedback alering the driver of an imminent collision. After pausing the procedure of vacating a parking spot to determine where the car has detected a collision the HUD indicates that it is the sensors in the front of the car that were detecting a possible collision despite the car being in reverse and moving away from the objects the front sensors detected. Furthermore, these alerts don't begin until you begin reversing which makes the situation very dangerous for all parties as the driver is now having to freeze and reassess again before proceeding. But the most dangerous problem about this scenario I am describing is that I as a driver have now gotten used to these "false" positives and as a result I assume any alerts I here while backing out are just the front sensors being noisy when it could be someones child behind the car I am driving. Fix this! How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? High risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. Working as intended from all research I have found online from other Ioniq 5 owners.

- #11572251February 15, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, POWER TRAIN
Driving down I95 at 75mph. Heard loud "thunk" and car lost both power and brakes. Warning lights on the dashboard said to check brake system. I was unable to pull onto the shoulder due to construction barricades in place. The car slowed to 10mph and continued until I was able to pull over onto the shoulder. This was very dangerous given the highway traffic speeds, construction zone with limited emergency pull over space, and due to it being night time. Turning it off and on again restored power but it happened 4 more times before I was able to make it to an exit. This seems to be a common issue with this model. I have already performed the ICCU recall that was supposed to address this
