My car has suffered two ICCU failures despite going through all of the Hyundai recalls. Through the so far 30 months of my lease, the car has been non-operational for close to 5 months. The car is still currently in the shop awaiting delivery of the replacement parts, but there is absolutely no ETA being provided. As I understand it, this is a common issue with this model and given that it is the second occurrence for me personally, it doesn't seem like Hyundai has a good grasp on how to deal with the issue and give consumers a functioning vehicle.

Vehicle displayed "Power limited" and slowed to a crawl, was able to drive less than a quarter mile to a safe place before it displayed "Stop vehicle and check power supply" then completely shut down. Diagnosed as ICCU failure by the Hyundai Dealer service technician, with the parts on backorder and no ETA for the 15 or so other Hyundai Ioniq 5's with the same failed ICCU waiting at the same dealership, in front of me.

I was driving home from lunch with my wife. A "Check electrical system" alert came up, followed shortly by an urgent beeping with a "Stop vehicle and check power supply." We were able to pull into a parking lot. We called our insurance company for a tow, which showed up two hours later. They took it to the nearest Hyundai dealership. It took three days to diagnose the issue as an ICCU failure, which appears all too common with Ioniq 5s. There's a national backlog on the replacement part, so my car will likely be in the shop for a month to six weeks. A six-week old AGM battery also died. Hyundai wants me to pay to replace it.

My car reported an error "check electric vehicle system" and would not drive over 25 mph. I had it towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership. This was after the car repeatedly killed the 12 volt battery. This is a common issue known with the ICCU.

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the battery warning light remained illuminated, and the vehicle failed to exceed 45 MPH while driving. The messages "Onboard Charger - Stop Vehicle" and "Power Supply" were displayed. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the ICCU Module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact stated that during the failure, the electric battery had failed to recharge the 12-Volt battery as intended, which caused the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V868000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 8,000.

''Stop vehicle and check power supply'' At this point I heard a pop sound and the car died. The dealer said this is a ICCU problem.

At a routine service visit to AutoNation Hyundai/Carlsbad, I received a good report on the 2025 Ioniq 5 condition. Starting the car to drive home I heard a pop sound and noted a diagnostic code that confirmed the ICCU and associated fuse had blown. Since then, Hyundai has been unable to clarify the ETA of the back ordered parts. They provided a loaner but it’s not an EV.

The vehicle lost its ability to charge via AC power sources (level 1 and level 2), and the "Check vehicle electrical system" warning appeared on the dash. When using an OBD scanner, DTC P1E01 was present. It was inspected by a dealer, who informed me that the ICCU is in need of replacement, despite this component having been already addressed by a previous recall. Unfortunately the replacement component is backordered and there is no ETA available on the fix. For the time being I am limited to level 3 DC fast charging, which is a major inconvenience but does not represent a safety risk to myself or others.

Sudden ICCU failure in 2024 Ioniq 5 electric vehicle . A warning message to check electrical system appeared suddenly on driver dash screen. Tried to drive vehicle off street to a safe place to park. Vehicle shuttered and shook and would only move under 5mph on busy shopping & hospital area of 45 MPH road, placing me and my [XXX] child in danger of being hit by another fast moving car. Vehicle was towed to Bob King Hyundai in Winston Salem. They diagnosed the problem as a failed ICCU. Ongoing and long term problem with Hyundai. Service department has had my car for 11 days so far. They update me frequently. The part has been ordered but there is not ETA. Also, there is no guarantee that the new part will not fail as well. This puts my family at risk every time we drive the car, especially on busy roads and interstates. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The vehicle cannot initiate a level 2 charging session due to a ground fault error. Multiple charging stations were attempted with different charging connectors and adapters. Only DC fast charging works on the vehicle now. This vehicle has been leased for less than 60 days.

On Sunday, 2/15/26 while backing out of my garage into the driveway, I heard a "pop" sound from the rear and the vehicle stopped and shut down with multiple warning/alerts on the dash. The error code reported was DTC P1A9096 which is indicative of an ICCU (Integrated Charging and Control Unit) failure as widely reported here and online by other owners. Vehicle was towed to the dealer and is currently awaiting diagnosis.

My car gave me a "Check electrical vehicle system" message, which I have seen online may mean a problem with the ICCU. As the dealership is close - about five miles from my home, on residential roads - I decided to drive there. The car lost power very quickly and then died in the road shortly after leaving my driveway. Thankfully I wasn't on a busy street or an intersection and was able to safely get it to the side of the road, but if it had died while driving at a higher speed it would have been very dangerous.

The Dealer states my ICCU has failed and will be replaced. My vehicle could no longer charge on AC power (level 1 or level 2), and eventually had to be taken to the dealer because it could not be charged at home any longer due to the ICCU failing.

ICCU failed. Car has been sitting at service center for ~4 weeks. Luckily the incident took place at home but could have been anywhere. No warning prior to failure.

The 12V system battery failed to keep a charge and the vehicle slowly reduced maximum speed until it fully died causing the car to coast to a stop on a 55MPH highway. At 9,500 miles on the odometer the ICCU has failed. The part is on backorder and my car has been in the shop for three weeks with no estimated completion date. A LOT of IONIQ 5 owners are encountering the ICCU failure.

ICCU failure: confirmed by dealership, submitting for your records - while driving the morning of 2/11/26 in Evansville, IN a warning message appeared on the dashboard stating 'Check Electric Vehicle System' followed by a rapid deceleration. Luckily there was not a vehicle behind me as they would have rear ended me. This failure occurred without warning and presented a significant safety hazard, leaving the vehicle stranded in traffic until I was able to restart it. Vehicle went in to turtle mode upon restart, would not go over 20mph at first then I stopped the car, restarted it again, it would move for 15-20 seconds before going in to turtle mode again and now it will not go over 10mph - interestingly, when I would stop and put it in reverse, the vehicle would move 10-20' and then come to a very abrupt stop as the entire vehicle shut off - had to tow the vehicle to the Hyundai dealership in Evansville Indiana where the ICCU was confirmed has having failed

The ICCU failed. I heard a popping noise, an error “check electric vehicle system” appeared on the dash, and i lost propulsion. I had my car towed to the dealership, where they eventually confirmed the ICCU failure.

While driving on the highway during a rainstorm, the high voltage fuse on my car's Internal Charge Control Unit blew and the ICCU itself failed. This rendered the vehicle inoperable as soon as I managed to get it to the shoulder. It took two weeks to repair, and I had to argue with Hyundai's corporate lines for almost six months before the offered a partial reimbursement for their device failure.

We had the Internal Charge Control Unit replaced due to a warranty recall a couple years ago and it failed again on Dec. 23, 2025. The car has been at the dealer ever since, waiting for a replacement ICCU. The car refuses to charge and the dealer has diagnosed the issue as a faulty ICCU. There were no warnings or problem indicators prior to failure. This is our only vehicle, so while there was no safety issue, there is definitely a convenience issue. We had to obtain a loaner.
