While driving, car displayed a check electrical vehicle system warning light. The 12 volt battery completely died and could not maintain charge resulting in slower and then complete loss of propulsion. Towed to dealer and the following Monday determined it was an ICCU failure. Part is back ordered but verbally told on 2/24/2026 that part would be delivered in two weeks. We'll see!!! If this issue occurred while driving on an interstate at full speed with traffic it seems this might result in an accident since the max speed dropped to 25 MPH and then 12MPH after warning before being able to safely pull over.

The contact owns a 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The contact stated that while charging the vehicle at the workplace, the vehicle started flashing a message "Charging was Unsuccessful". The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the residence; however, the door locks were making clicking sounds. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in the driveway and the key fob failed to unlock or lock the doors. The contact called the local dealer, who advised her not to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was towed by the dealer to be diagnosed, and the dealer informed the contact that the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160.

According to Hyundai, all active recall campaigns have been addressed on this vehicle (NHTSA site says it wasn't, Hyundai claims it was on 9/22/2025). Last night (3/3/2026) while driving on an unlit, two-lane country road about 20 minutes from my house, I heard and felt a bang noise from underneath the rear cabin of the car accompanied by a message stating "Stop vehicle and check power supply" on the dash. The car immediately went into a limp mode, reducing speed to ~40mph. After about 0.5 miles, the car further reduced speed to about 25mph (in a 55mph zone). As speed reduced further (no indication of what the speed would be reduced to), I pulled the car off of the road and awaited tow service. As this happened in the evening on an unlit country road, I was forced to wait for assistance along a stretch of road that could have been hazardous. Hyundai's claimed recall campaign work was performed on 9/22/25 with subsequent recurring failure about 5 months later. The dealer cannot confirm the diagnosis or offer estimates of repair time/availability until they see the car (currently scheduled for next week).

Having the same ICCU Failure that all other Ioniq 5 owners have. On February 26th, I was heading to work when I heard a pop and car displayed warning lights saying check EV system and stop safely. Car was limped home and towed to dealer. Was told fix will take a month.

Car was acting normally. Suddenly, the car would not accelerate. I was on a small road with no place to pull over. Vehicle said to pull over check electrical system. At great risk to my life and the safety of my children, we managed to get to a safe spot before the entire vehicle shut down. We expect that this was a failed ICCU.

I couldn’t start the car. I had to tow it to nearest dealership. I waited one week to get diagnosis and was told about ICCU failure. It took 45 days in the shop to get it fixed.

My wife was driving our Ioniq 5 on the freeway. She received a message on the dash about the electrical system (probably ICCU failure), and then the car limited itself ("turtle mode") so that the max speed was 20mph. A minute or two later it slowed down even further to 10mph. She was able to get off the freeway safely.

While attempting to leave home, the 'Check Electrical System' warning came on. The vehicle entered a 'safe mode' and was unable to accelerate. The car was towed, and the dealer confirmed a complete failure of the ICCU and associated fuse (DTC P1A9096). This is a known issue (Recall 24V-204) and created a dangerous situation.

Check electric vehicle system light came on and power slowly diminished which meant the car was unable to sustain highway speeds. Had to be towed to dealership.

ICCU unit failed in parking lot leaving us stranded. Over 30 days to repair. Common issue. Luckily we weren’t on the road as the vehicle goes into a very short limp mode which may not allow time to get off a busy highway.

I had washed my vehicle in my driveway. As I was drying it off, I heard a loud pop sound. When I went to put the car back in the garage, there was a warning displayed on the dash advising to check the vehicle electrical system. I immediately opened the MyHyundai app and it had a warning of an issue with the elecrtrical system and advised to schedule service. I had had no issues with the vehicle or its operation prior to this suddenly happening today. I fear that this is an ICCU issue as I have seen numerous complaints on forums and Reddit of over 90K 2025 Ioniq 5 vehicles this year alone having this issue. That’s an awful lot of vehicles to have the same issue.

On [XXX] while driving the car on a city street in Northhampton, MA, I heard a loud "pop" and there were multiple warning lights, beeps and messages indicating there was a problem with the electrical system. The car slowed dramatically and I was unable to drive at a safe speed to keep up with traffic. The car slowly lost power and I was able to pull over to the side of the road. The temperature was 15 degrees F - very cold, no heat and I had to stay with the car in freezing cold temperatures to await transport via tow to the local dealer. The tow service required that someone be with the vehicle in order to receive a tow. The dealer diagnosed the car with a failed ICCU - a well-known, increasingly common issue with these cars - and said there were already 10 Ioniqs on the lot awaiting replacement ICCUs. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The ICCU failed. It is not available for inspection. - How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Minimally. The car alerted me that it was power-limited and that I should stop the car immediate and get it towed to the dealer. - Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. - Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, the dealer. - Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The car informed me it was power limited when I started it. When I started driving after about a mile I was instructed to pull over get a tow.

The car would no longer charge and the dealer said it is due to a faulty ICCU. The dealer said this part is on back order with an indefinite freeze and no ETA. My car has been at the dealership shop since January 29 and Hyundai corporate has not been helpful when I escalated to them. Overall I have had these charging issues since early December. Hyundai has denied my request to buyback the vehicle since it is over 4 years old now (2022). I’m very disappointed and concerned about the ongoing ability for this vehicle to be safe and drivable.

I was on the highway going at approximately 60mph when the car without any warning reduced speed to first around 40mph and then to 20mph all within a matter of a few minutes, causing me to pull over to the side of the highway. Luckily, I wasn't injured. I exited the highway, called my insurance company Geico and had the vehicle towed to the dealership where I leased this brand new vehicle from just about 7 months ago on a 2year lease. The dealer was kind enough to provide a smaller loaner vehicle but had no idea when my car would be returned, as there were others with similar failures ahead of me that were waiting for the part to arrive. Apparently, this is a known failure issue of the ICCU that Hyundai has done a poor job of addressing. I continue to make my lease payments while waiting for the part to arrive. In the meantime, I wanted to let the government know of my experience and how this could have had a disastrous effect on my family and other families with a similar build.

On the morning of January 23, 2026, the ICCU Assembly and fuse failed when driving on a freeway in moderately heavy traffic. I was driving about 55 mph when I heard a pop from somewhere behind me. A warning message came on the display to check the electrical system along with a battery symbol. The car lost power. Losing power like that on a freeway was not at all safe. It could only go about 25 miles per hour. I had to drive on the shoulder of the freeway with my hazard lights flashing until I reached an exit ramp to get off the freeway. I parked on a side street in a residential area where I felt safe, turned off the car, and waited. I turned it back on. The message was still there so I called for a tow. The 12-volt battery was completely dead by the time it got to the dealers and had to be jumped to be able to park it. The original ICCU had already been replaced in November of 2024, so this was a failure of a replaced part. The car was at the dealer for 19 days before it was repaired due to the wait for the parts to be shipped. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The ICCU and fuse failed but I don't have the part since it was replaced by the dealer. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Losing power on a freeway when cars are traveling at high speed is not at all safe. I could have been rear-ended. Luckily I was able to get to the freeway shoulder without incident and travel on the shoulder to get to a safe place. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. They diagnosed it and replaced the failed part. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Unknown. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. The warning message popped up at the same time as the loss of power.

Drove 50 miles. Charged car at a supercharger. Unplugged car normally. Pushed start normally. Heard a light “pop” sound. Car would drive but with low acceleration. Warning lights came on. Then bright “stop now” lights and beeping. Then it died in the parking lot and would not start at all.
