While driving the car will stall regardless of speed or distance. Hyundai dealership states that this is due to a drop in oil pressure due to a faulty oil pump. I replaced this pump 18 months ago on 6/7/2023 with 87K miles. The car is displaying the same issue again on this date (1/14/2025) with 104K miles, and I took it to the Hyundai dealership, and they state that it is experiencing the same oil pump failure. The service department at the dealership stated that this is a known issue with these Hyundai Elantras, and this would be the third replacement of this oil pump. It was replaced once by the original owner under warranty. My contention is that this is a safety issue, because when the oil pressure dips the engine shuts off, and we lose all power to the car. This is a danger to us if this happens while driving the car.

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH at night, the high beam headlight became inoperable. The contact stated that the high beam on the sign was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed that the high beam headlights had failed due to a shutter in the headlight housing that opened and closed while needed. The contact was informed that the headlamp housing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 20-BE-004H Headlamp Replacement (Exterior Lighting). The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

At first the car was fine when I bought if off some random guy and it drove a little rough but was good for the mean time. A month into driving the car I come to realize that the timing change needed to be replaced since it would keep turning off on its own in idle. As I was changing gears on the car after the a month of the repair from drive to reverse I realized the car’s gears were slipping and coming to find out we need a transmission change on the car. While looking into this cars reports using the vin number since I found it a little off putting that the transmission and timing chain is already giving out at 188,000 miles I come to find out the car may have a odometer rollback since it was last reported to have 256,500 miles and it that it was possibly altered. So the Timing chain and the transmission were the components that needed change. My safety was put as risk when the gear would not change redlining the car when driving in public roads cause me to limit my speed to be under the speed limit when realization of the issue set it of the car. The issue has not been confirmed only the time change since it was fixed at a service center. It has also not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance since I’m not sure how to report Odometer rollback fraud. There was an engine light at the time of purchase which was the timing chain and a tire pressure light.

Constant sound of flowing water throughout the front of the vehicle. Several service appointments later and there is still no solution to the issue that has been going on for over a year. Thia can be heard like a stream of water flowing. Engine ticking, loud rattling from engine. You can hear in from inside of the car.

Every time I go up a hill the slippery road light comes up. It’s hard to drive straight. I have to drive under the speed limit going up hills. Sometimes it won’t even let me park. I hear rattling when I drive over a certain speed limit. When I brake I feel the brake pad pushing back. And now my wheels are making noise when I turn them.

My 2017 Elantra with 107,000 miles (it has a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty) on it has just experienced the same issue as all of the other Hyundais that have been recalled. I was driving on Xmas evening 2024 and started hearing my engine making noises I had not heard before when excellerating but then they would go away. On my way home the check engine light went on for a couple of minutes but then went off and I was able to get home although the car did not seem to be riding well. The next day, the check engine light went on again and so I brought it in to my mechanic. He said that there were metal fragments/shavings in my oil that were clogging my engine, etc. He said that I need a new engine and said he had several other Elantras with the same issue and that I should take it to a Hyundai dealer because of all of their recalls/Class Action Lawsuits which extend warrantees, etc. for the same exact issue. I was able to drive the car there but it was not a safe drive. Their assessment was basically that I need most of my powertrain replaced to the tune of $4100.00 but once they get in there, it might be more extensive and end up having to be replaced. However, they did not say anything about the metal fragments and when I brought it up to them, they acted like they didn't see them. However, my mechanic (with no skin in the game) said they were all over the place in my car's oil. So, I am a little wary that they decided to skate that issue, since it is the basis for all of their Class Actions, etc. I'm kind of stuck, Hyundai has my car and it really isn't drivable. I've checked many Elantra forums and have seen that this is happening to Many other 2017 Hyundi Elantra SE even though they have not yet been added to the recalls/Class Actions, etc. I really think that the Hyundai engine issue is more widespread than just the cars on the current list and I hope that this is looked into as it is extremely dangerous and comes on very quickly without warning.

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH and making a turn, there was an abnormally loud thumping sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the sound persisted over time. While the vehicle was parked, the contact turned the steering wheel and there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the steering. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the coupler steering gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 63,500.

NOVEMBER 2023: PURCHASE VEHICLE. SEPTEMBER 2, 2024: DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 50-55MPH IN RIGHT LANE. NO ONE/NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. CLEAR DAY. VEHICLE COLLISION ALERT STARTS BEEPING, VEHICLE ABRUPTLY BRAKES AND STEERS ITSELF INTO THE LEFT LANE. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE AND ALSO FOR THE PERSON WHO WAS BEHIND ME. SEPTEMBER 16-17, 2024: DROP OFF VEHICLE AT DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE. NOTFD SERVICE ADVISOR OF SEP 2 INCIDENT, REQUESTED INVESTIGATION. WAS TOLD I'D HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY WOULD LIKELY NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I WAS ALSO TOLD IN SUMMARY: "NOTHING SEEMED WRONG, INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN A GLITCH, WE CAN TALK ABOUT TURNING OFF THE ENTIRE SAFETY FEATURE." -- I FELT COMPLETELY DISMISSED. SINCE EARLY 2024 (SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING): • VEHICLE RANDOMLY DISABLES ALL SAFETY FEATURES WHILE I AM DRIVING. YELLOW ICONS APPEAR ON MY DASH, AND DINGING NOISES KEEP ALERTING. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST DAILY! I SHOWED PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A SECOND DEALERSHIP, AND SENT THEM TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE (DEC 2024). NO ONE HAS MADE ANY RESOLUTION FOR THIS. • NOTICING MOISTURE BUILD-UP IN WINDOW CREVICES. REAR WINDOWS HAVE ROLLED DOWN WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2024: • VEHICLE MAKING HIGH PITCH WHISTLING NOISE. PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AS CRACKED HEATER CONSOLE. SEALED/REPAIRED TWICE, IN TWO DIFFERENT SPOTS. WHY WOULDN'T THEY JUST REPLACE IT?! • HORN NOT WORKING. I WAS UNAWARE UNTIL DEALERSHIP TESTED IT. • REAR DOORS BARELY OPENING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. PEOPLE NEED TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT (AND IN). BROUGHT VEHICLE IN, WAS TOLD THEY "LUBED IT UP", YET THE DOORS ARE NOT OPENING FULLY AGAIN AS OF DECEMBER 2024-JANUARY 2025. DECEMBER 2024: • CONTACTED CORPORATE TO FILE COMPLAINT. SINCE I FILED IN DECEMBER 2024, WHICH IS 13 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE, I WAS TOLD I DON'T QUALIFY FOR ILLINOIS LEMON LAW BUYBACK OPTION. Intermittently while driving the vehicle will suddenly engage the traction control (TC)/electronic stability control (ESC). The light flashes for a short period (probably no more than a couple of seconds) and the car slightly jerks to the right. A loud noise is heard when this happens and the brake pedal shakes. Then the light will stop flashing and the car will begin operating normally again. Typically, the problem will reoccur shortly after it happens. I took the car to a dealer, and the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. The service manager stated that there were no codes and no history, and without a code the problem could not be diagnosed. This problem occurred multiple times over the last few months.

DRIVERS SIDE PARK LAMP IN CENTER WORKS PASSENGER SIDE DOES NOT INSIDE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY ON PASSENGER SIDE THERE IS NOT A POWER FEED WIRE ON ORIGINAL OR REPLACEMENT FOR THE PARK LIGHT CIRCUIT. DRIVERS SIDE DOES HAVE THIS WIRE.

I had just drove back home from work and I was driving to pick up my child from his basketball game. I was able to pull out of my driveway and get through two stop signs before I came to a third and needed to make a left hand turn. I stopped and let the cars from the highway pass until it was my turn to go. I was proceeding through the sign and started to turn and in the middle of the turn my vehicle cuts off acceleration and stops moving in the middle of the street and turn. No lights. No warning. Just loses power. I pressed the gas and my rpm’s just reved extremely high. I couldn’t move out of the middle of the street. I pressed the gas again and the car started moving approximately 5-10 mph. Luckily the car driving by didn’t hit me as I was sitting in the middle of the road. I finally got to the side of the road and put the vehicle into park for a couple minutes and tried to take off again. I couldn’t go faster than 5mph at this time. I had to drive back home and by the time I got back I had lost reverse capabilities. Dealer said no recalls and mechanics said not much they can do because there isn’t a code or light on for them to check. I just have a new car that doesn’t drive or go into reverse. I’m going to the original dealer to see if they can help now. I believe this is possibly the transmission but I am not sure.
