- #11640818February 5, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The transmission is slipping to the point that I have almost gotten in several accidents due to impatient drives and the car not engaging in gear like it should. Vehicle also has several electrical faults reverse braking system engages at random with nothing in its way,the key not in vehicle warning will sound randomly while key is in vehicle, horn stopped working out of nowhere, while washing vehicle with keys in pocket vehicles key warning system will sound about every 30-60 seconds only when washing vehicle, random front collision warning system with nothing in front of vehicle, seat height adjustment randomly stops working but the rest of the electric seat adjustment works then seat will start working again at random. When taken to dealership for diagnoses the dealer refused to diagnose electrical issues unless I paid out of pocket even though vehicle is under full warranty and all systems listed are warrantied.

I purchased this car in 2019 and 2-3 days later I started to experience the engine stalling, I contacted the dealer, and they checked it out by test driving it and said there was nothing wrong with it, it has still been happening, now more frequently > i have to constantly change the oil before the due time to see if it helps but it is becoming a bit dangerous for me and my family when it stalls as I'm trying to accelerate. I would like some assistance from Hyundai

The HORN has been replaced on 4 separate occasions through Hyundai under warranty and it can not be fixed. This seems to be a wide spread issues involving the 2023 and 2024 Hyundai Elantra models and there are multiple TSB's at the dealerships. Hyundai has not done a recall or come up with a fix and it renders the horn useless and can cause a major safety problem or accident.

On [XXX] I was parking in my parking spot outside my house, went to pull up 3 more inches in my parking spot when the vehicle accelerated at an extremely rapid speed, went over the high curb, up my front lawn into the tree in my front yard. It was a battle between the brake and the gas acceleration event. Then I put it gently in reverse, my car fled rapidly down into the parking lot at such a high rate of speed, I turned the wheel, my car hit 3 cars across the parking lot, shot across the parking lot, popped over that curb, went down an extremely steep hill, hit the cross street, went still in reverse over an island, wiped out two signs and crashed into a car in the middle of the 4 way stop and stopped. My insurance is blaming it on driver error like they are blaming thousands of drivers over the same experience, stating that I mistook the gas pedal instead of the brake and also stating that I did not attempt to brake, that is so far from the truth, you can look at the track marks on the ground and tell I was standing on the brake. What is being done about these awful scenerios. My car is currently in copart being assessed. My car was serviced at the hyundai dealership ever since I purchased it, all the records are there and in my possession, I had low mileage, less than 48,000 miles and planned on holding onto the vehicle for at least 6 more years. Now my car is sabotaged, being blamed like 1,000 of other drivers over the car malfunctioning. There is a sensor for the Throttle, a sensor for the Gas Accelerator that the Computer Control Unit brain waits for the analytical data from both sensors and adds additional throttle to the situation. Once the car is turned off the entire system resets itself, so there is no evidence of high throttle, gas accelerators sticking and the driver is blamed. Since the insurance companies have insured these vehicles there is a lot at stake for these cases to be proven and for the Hyundai manufacturer as well. At approx 1000 the horn fuse blew and rendered horn inoperable. Fuse was replaced by dealer. At approx 1500 miles horn was inoperable again, dealer recommended horn replacement however the horns are currently on back order. In both cases, no lamps or messages were available in the car indicating the horn was inoperable.

For the past 2 years my Forward Safety System light on has been on in my car. It has turned off and back on repeatedly but has now been on for about 6 months. Hyundai dealerships are estimated a week or two of labor to fix which is extremely expensive for rental cars and outlandish that I bought this brand new and it is already giving me issues. No damage has been had to the car in any way.

I was driving normally down the road and all of a sudden I lost control and couldn’t turn my vehicle apparently the control arm rusted from the subframe, causing me to swerve hit a curb and cause more damage to the front end. Thank God I was on a not so busy street! I could have killed myself or someone else all because this company’s metal rusted out.

My car was recalled by Hyundai for a critical safety issue and has been at the dealership since July of 2024 awaiting repairs due to missing parts. Despite repeated follow-ups, Hyundai has been unable to provide a timeline for the repair. Recently, they offered to buy back the car, but the offer was far below its fair market value. When I declined, they stated they would return the car to me unfixed and unsafe. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and feels coercive, as I am forced to choose between accepting an unfair buyback or taking back an unsafe vehicle. I am seeking NHTSA's assistance to ensure Hyundai repairs the vehicle promptly, investigates their handling of recalls, and protects consumers from being placed in such unfair situations.

The engine in my car (Hyundai Elantra gt 2014) basically did everything I read about all the other Hyundai engines doing that are under engine recalls. Years ago it started having misfires, had the catalytic converter or parts of it replaced, sensors, over consuming oil, loud noises when it's lower on oil and eventually it just recently died. Unfortunately it's only 11,000 miles over the extended warranty period to get it replaced. The bad engine stuff basically broke the current catalytic converter and the dealership wants over 10,000 dollars to fix it and replace the engine... not including tax. The worse part is sometime like a year ago I went to a dealership because I had an apt for an oil change. The day before my check engine light turned on. So at the apt while checking in my car I mentioned to the guy taking photos of my car that the check engine light was on and please check it out. I waited two hours for them to give me my keys back and say I didn't make the appointment for the check engine light so they couldn't see what was wrong with it that day. And that had never happened before. At the time I had only been to dealerships to fix my car and The dealerships always agreed to check out the engine light when it was on except for this one time. Felt like I was getting pushed out the door. So I've spent the last year going to other mechanics attempting to fix the check engine light and it always just came back on when I got my car back. Tune ups, spark plugs, cylinder misfires. Elantra GT's are not represented in any of the recall articles I read about online so I felt the need to share my story because I think my car had the same engine as some of the other cars. RIP Elantra GT

Air bag light will not turn off so I’m not sure if the air bags work. Oil is going missing from the car causing it to suddenly shut down. It also makes the rpm’s go really high (close to 5,000) when trying to go up hills or accelerate. I don’t see a leak, or puddles under the car, nor black smoke.

I bought my car April 2023 brand new. I noticed today the horn was not working. I have less that 30k miles on my car. Hyundai is telling me the horn is not included in the warranty. Someone cut me off and I tried to honk my horn to tell them they were close and it didn't work.

Both high and low horns failed and the vehicle has 61,000 miles. Hyundai said this is a “known issue” to the point that they keep these parts in stock and replace them regularly. This is a safety concern, and required for safety inspection.

Out of curiosity, after searching up my current car I pulled a vehicle report from a NMVTIS approved site for my former car listed above. Upon searching up the vehicle history i learned i was a victim of odometer fraud. The miles listed for the owner of the car before me was 63,000 miles. However, when I purchased the car it was somehow listed as 20,518 miles. I am listed as title 4 and I registered the car in Atlanta, Georgia. I will attach the report below. I purchased this vehicle in September of 2021 from Efrid Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership in Florence, South Carolina.

At 16,000 miles the horns on my vehicle failed. This occured on busy tollway just as a driver began to enter my lane from the right side. When I tried to engage my horn to warn him I was unable and had to slam on my brakes to avoid a collision. The driver behind me came within inches of rear ending me and he swerved into another lane almost causing another collision. Then the original driver thought I was brake checking him and went around me an slammed on his brakes in retribution. Horns that were used to repair by dealer were new OEM's. At 24,000 miles a similar experience occured where I had to slam on my brakes because I was unable to warn another driver that we were about to collide, but the horns failed. Once again the dealer had to replace the defective horns with more of the same OEM horns that have been proven by myself and others to be unreliable. In researching complaints about this issue I have seen numerous other owners of 23 and 24 Elantras (and Konas) making same complaint, some of which had to have their horns replaced multiple times. I complained to Hyundai Corporate and requested an alternate replacement horn as now I have to drive a 1 year old car that I don't know if the horns are going to work or not, and despite all the evidence I presented to them, they refused. I cannot allow any other family members to drive my $21,000 car for fear that they might not be as "lucky" as I was in avoiding an accident. I am told that the NHTSA does not consider a horn as a safety item and therefore not within their jurisdiction. I find that difficult to understand due to the lack of horns definitely put me in a position twice that directly related to my and the other driver's safety. What other reason could there be for a horn other than waking up drivers at a redlight who are looking at their phones instead of paying attention? I'm sure that when Henry Ford put horns on his cars that it was not for any other reason than safety.

2013 Elantra coupe se.The car wanders on the highway like a boat constantly left and right all over the lane and if/when you hit a dip or bump it REALLY throws the car around! There's Obviously issues with the suspension on a MULTITUDE of these model/year vehicles if not ALL of theml. It is VERY dangerous and needs to be addressed and recalled. I do not have an alignment issue as the tires brakes rotors and calipers are all new no dragging /pulling etc and the tires are properly pressured as well. Extremely well maintained car by the owner EXTREMELY poorly Engineered by the Maker! The steering coupler has been replaced also taking the play out of the wheel as those things are a small rubber "cog wheel" that wears completely to nothing causing severe play and a clunking noise in the wheel between the turning of left or right as that component acts as a spacer/gear/vibration absorber between the steering shaft and the steering assist helper motor gears these cars ALSO were sold knowing they were piston slap engines yet Still never issued a recall until YEARS and multi millions of complaints later only to only cover certain years and models yet they All had the same engine. Imagine the IDIOCY! I will NEVER purchase a Hyundai or a Kia EVER again rest assured! I do my research and homework on every potential item I'm looking into possibly getting yet Nowhere at the time was there any info regarding they were piston slap engines turning these out by the multi millions and trying to hide the fact until they no longer could. Disgustingly Sad that they do not stand behind there product!
