STEERING
When I am driving going above 40 miles per hour, the steering wheel has a slight resistance when making minor corrections. When trying to correct direction in a lane to stay straight, the steering wheel sticks, or catches, and when you get it to move it makes a jerking motion. This is a safety concern, because I am worried that this will ultimately result in an accident as the issue gets worse. My local Honda dealer, as well as a reputable local mechanic have reproduced the issue. The issue first appeared within the last year to two years.

STEERING
Steering is sticky. At times it takes additional force to turn. Once the additional force overcomes whatever is causing the sticking issue it results in excess steering input which has to be corrected in the opposite direction to avoid running off the road or engine another lane. Vehicle is not under warranty so I have not had it inspected. There are no warnings for the issue.

POWER TRAIN
2020 Honda Civic EX-L Bought In 2021, December 2024 car has 102K miles and transmission went out. No warning at all, in the middle of highway. It's now Febuary 2025 a used transmission provided under the power train warranty got installed. That transmission is also failing on the vehicle. Dealership service manager doesn't know what the problem is nor why it is showing failure. I have no update on repair as of now. My only options were to trade in or buy a brand new $10k transmission out of pocket. HIGHLY disappointed and stressed out. - Regular maintenance/service on vehicle performed at shop. - All documentation was provided to dealership and warranty, all documents were accepted. - vehicle never gave me a warning of any failure. - No car, no rental, no replacement. ***dealership and warranty have not provided any information in writing or documentation as requested.

Complaint Description for NHTSA Vehicle Information: • Year: 2016 • Make: Honda • Model: Civic • VIN: [XXX] : 90,484 Description of the Issue: I am experiencing a complete AC failure in my 2016 Honda Civic due to an evaporator leak, which has resulted in an unreasonable $4,000 repair cost quoted by my local Honda dealership. This is a well-documented and widespread issue among 2016-2020 Honda Civic owners, where the AC system components, including the compressor, condenser, and evaporator, fail prematurely. Honda has already acknowledged defects in the AC condenser and extended the warranty for that part. However, they have not extended the warranty for the evaporator, which is also failing at an alarmingly high rate. Safety Concerns: • Visibility Issues: Without a working AC system, the defrost function does not operate properly, causing windshield fogging, which can obstruct visibility and create a safety hazard while driving. • Extreme Heat Risk: In hot climates, the lack of AC can lead to dangerous cabin temperatures, which is a health and safety risk, especially for passengers with medical conditions or young children. Honda’s Response & Requested Action: • I contacted Honda Customer Service to request goodwill assistance, but they have not yet agreed to cover the repair cost. • Many Honda Civic owners have filed similar complaints about evaporator failures, yet Honda has failed to take action. • Given the widespread nature of this issue, Honda should extend the warranty for the evaporator, just as they did for the AC condenser. I am filing this complaint to formally urge NHTSA to investigate this issue and hold Honda accountable for what appears to be a defective AC system across multiple model years. The contact owned a 2023 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving on a neighborhood street at 20 MPH when the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver and the vehicle began to drift to the right causing the contact to crash into a mailbox. No warning lights were illuminated. There was property damage to the mailbox. The vehicle came to a stop upon crashing into the mailbox. The air bags deployed. The vehicle was towed to a local junkyard. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact stated that she and her son were injured and that he was seated in the front passenger seat. Nobody outside of the vehicle was injured. The contact sustained injuries to her back, shoulders, and arms, and her son sustained injuries to the head. Medical treatment was needed for the injuries of both the contact and her son. The local dealer was not contacted, therefore the vehicle was not diagnosed as insurance declared the vehicle a total loss. The contact believed that NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (STEERING) was related to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

In Dec 2024, I began to hear a noise under the car. I dropped off the car for the recall and to see if they could figure out the issue. Recall was completed and no issue found after blowing out the dust shield around the brakes. 1 week later, the problem came back sounding a little different. We found a plug in the aluminum pan under the car. After removing it, the original noise returned (may not have been noticeable because the other sound was louder). I took it back to the dealership. They could not find anything specific, but tightened up something in the front end suspension. The noise came back 30 miles later. So I took it to a different dealership last week. They found that the splash cover was missing a screw. So that must be it right? No 5 minutes after I left, the sound returned. Tuesday 2/4 I took the car back. After a longer inspection, they determined that the sway bar links were bad on both sides. So they replaced them. The car ran okay for the 1st day or so. I heard a couple squeaks but I just figured it had something to do with the replacement parts. As of today, the noise has returned as it was before. I will update, but this seems to be suspension related/faulty suspension parts.

About a year ago, the transmission failed costing us nearly $5000 to fix it. This incident happened approximately April of 2022, no warning signs at all. Now, the airbag deployed while merging onto the freeway without any impact which was the scariest thing. I’m very concerned there are other issues. There were no warning signs on both incidents.

Steering wheels binds up on highway. If I slightly turn the wheel in any direction it gets stuck that way and I have to use a lot of force to get it to unbind. Causes uncontrollable steering adjustment very serious.

The fuel injector on my 2019 honda civic si went bad at 58,000 miles, which is over a $2,000 repair. Not only is this a widespread problem with Honda,..they KNOW about the fuel injectors being faulty and have discontinued the part, instead they have chosen another supplier to manufacturer the injectors without issuing a recall. This is blatantly a known defected part and Honda should immediately compensate/replace affected models. STEERING
The steering wheel sticks when it is at center while driving down a straight road or a slight bend and I have to push the steering wheel past the center. But I mostly experience this issue when driving down a straight road and the steering wheel is in the center position and I have to turn the steering wheel slightly to the right or left to bring the car back to the center of the lane due to car moving left or right of lane because of road crown, wind, etc. My safety is at risk when I adjust the steering wheel to the left or right of center and get resistance (sticky). When I push past the resistance the steering wheel goes further to the left or right than desired and jerks the car in that direction causing an erratic motion in the direction I'm pushing the steering wheel. The erratic motion could be a safety issue if the road conditions are not good. This could put the safety of others at risk, specifically other drivers who see the erratic movement of the vehicle and react to it. I called the Honda dealership and scheduled a service for next week. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to this. This issue appeared several months ago and seemed to go away and then returned.

New Honda Civic 2025, 2000 miles. Noticed sudden very rough idling and concerns for stalling upon rough start. No abnormal dash lights or warnings appeared for the duration of the incident. Took to Honda dealer and confirmed issue, inspection found active misfires on all four cylinders. All four spark plugs were defective/damaged on removal. Diagnosis as four faulty fuel injectors. All four fuel injectors and spark plugs replaced, two fuel lines replaced.
