The steering on my 2017 Honda Civic frequently sticks while driving making it difficult to steer. I purchased the used vehicle along with an extended warranty from Carvana in 2020. I noticed the stickiness in the steering after having the vehicle for a week and I took the vehicle to an independent service center to have the issue repaired in 2020. They were unable to diagnose the problem and the stickiness persisted intermittently (about 50%- 60% of the time while driving). Since then, the frequency of intermittent stickiness in the steering has increased (about 90%-95% of the time while driving). I am concerned about the risk of an accident on an interstate or highway while traveling at speeds in excess of 55 mph. When steering around an extended curve or corner on the road, the steering will stick and I have to jerk the steering wheel in the opposite direction to unstick the steering and course-correct. This causes the vehicle to swerve a bit and affects the handling of the vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

The paint is peeling off from the vehicle, exposing the body to rust and reduce the vehicle lifetime and durability significantly. When I contacted Honda about the issue, they told me it is a Paint defect from the manufacturing plant. They asked me to get a quote from the dealer to fix the issue, after getting the quote they denied the request saying it is outside the warranty period even when they agreed it is an issue occurred at the plant level. Please look into this and issue a recall.

1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? ANS: The steering sticks. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? ANS: By overcompensating when changing lanes. This condition arises on Interstate driving. It has happened since I bought the car. Would have to research dates and mileage. Date/mileage shown below is approximate. 3) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? ANS: Not to my knowledge. I mentioned it to Honda Cars of Katy 6/1/23. 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? ANS: No. Honda does not acknowledge a problem. 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? ANS: No. There are no warning signals when this occurs.

Have a previous complaint lodge, dealer replaced my steering rack about 3 months ago. within the last 500 miles or so the beginning signs of the issue are returning as this rack is also defective. Honda needs to figure out the problem and issue a recall immediately.

My car has had a sticky steering wheel problem for over a year now. I’m at 75k miles, the problem started at least around 60k miles. The wheel feels heavy and I have to over correct due to that stickiness. I can’t drive straight when I am on the highway. I continuously have to correct to keep the wheel straight. It does not feel safe. Last year my battery died and changing the battery helped the sticky steering a little but only for a short time. I think the problem has something to do with the power steering.

At approximately 45k miles, the steering wheel started to "stick" when at highway speed. Instead of the steering being continually smooth, like it used to be, it seems like the wheel gets stuck or tight and you have to make a quick, almost jerky adjustment. It's not a one time occurrence, but happens over and over. It had been taken to the dealer and had an alignment but the problem consisted. Upon researching, this is a common problem since the 2016 Civic.

Strong smell of fuel in the cabin due to known Honda oil dilution associated with the 1.5 turbo engine. Honda has a “fix” for issue but states only cold weather states are affected. Our 2018 Honda Civic has had this issue for over 2 years now. Strong smell of fuel in the oil, along with oil above normal mark on dipstick. On oil change, oil is filled to the normal mark (3.7 quarts) and upon oil change, 4.5 quarts will come out (likely fuel in the oil). The major safety issue is that the smell of fuel in the cabin is strong to the point of causing driver and passengers to have burning eyes, and in some occasions, dizziness. No warning lights have come on as a result of this issue. Vehicle was taken to dealership over a year ago and dealership stated this is a problem in cold weather states and not in California. Dealership could not replicate issue.

Electrical power steering is causing the steering to "stick" when trying to maintain lane. Steering sticks and when trying to correct and straighten steering to maintain lane, the power steering suddenly overcorrects. This makes it difficult to maintain lane at highway speeds.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at speeds over 50 MPH, the steering wheel was ceasing while turning in either direction. While driving in a straight line the vehicle was pulling to either side and the vehicle was difficult to control. The contact stated that the failure occurred after driving for more than thirty minutes at speeds over 50 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the steering gear box was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 94,000.

i have been experiencing issues with the rack for well over a year, it could be two honestly i cant remember. but unlike most reports mine isnt as noticeable at highway speeds. Mine is an issue at low speed or while parked. like the video of the guy with the 2016 civic, if you've been following the issue, mine is notchy and kind of delayed reaction to the steering input. in other words as you turn it slowly while it jerks in the direction you're turning slightly after you begin to turn the wheel. it also makes audible clunk/click noises at very low speed particularly while doing something like turning into a parking space. it also makes a noise at low speed while going straight and feels like the steering gear is hung up and then jerks past the hump from left to right or right to left; it just depends, it has a mind of its own. it is not my suspension as ive gone through it over and over. uninstalled, reinstalled, adjusted ride height etc etc, serviced my coil overs-still get the noise and jerkiness. I say this because the honda tech said "well its because your car is lowered, it sounds like the bushings or struts to me" as if we are all some kind of idiots that cant tell a tire from a brake pad and dont spend miles upon miles in our vehicles. we know when something isnt right. My car made zero noises and had zero issues until one day it did. all while having the same suspension set up for quite some time before. so no its not the suspension. also, mine is very climate sensitive. on hotter days it is extremely noisy and the jerky/notchy steering is very bad. in winter when it is much cooler, under 50F you have to try to notice it upon initial start up, if at all, until the car has been driven for a prolonged period and warms up the rack which sits right under the front pipe as im sure you all know.

The AC has failed 3 times on my car. I have had the car since 2017 (73,000 miles) and today marks my 3rd time taking the car in for an AC issue (blowing warm, unable to cool cabin). This has been frustrating since Honda has been known to be reliable. It is very unfortunate that they cannot place a recall on this car due it it lacking a "safety" issue. I live in Southern California and during the summer, I definitely consider not having AC a safety issue. Taking my car to the dealer is inconvenient and takes away from my life. Not only does dealer not have loaner cars until the issue is considered a warranty, but I have to take Personal Time Off so that I can take care of this manufacture problem.

Steering, same as other complaints. Intermittent sticking of the steering wheel. Constantly have to force steering wheel in order to maintain lane. Steering wheel seems to lock, have to force it to stay straight. Problem started couple years ago, at about 35K miles, and at 70K it is getting worse. And the cost---ha-unreal!!!

The TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) never illuminated to let me know I had a flat tire, and still didn't illuminate even after the entire tread was ripped off the sidewall of the tire. The front left tire was the one that went flat, and had I not been astute to the vehicles behavior, I could have been in a severe accident, as it is a front tire. I noticed the car pulling left a little, but thought it was due to the construction being done to repave the highway. After about 10 minutes of driving, I felt and heard the thumping of a flat tire. I had to drive a few miles to safely exit the highway when I heard the loud bang of the tread separating from the rim and hitting the underside of the car and wheelwell. For the tread to have been completely sheared off, I must have been driving on a flat for a considerable amount of time. The entire time, the TPMS never illuminated to warn of a flat or of low tire pressure. When I got to the dealership, the service writer told me the TPMS doesn't warn of a blowout. I found that to be a strange comment, because I clearly didn't have a blowout. The car was pulling for a little while (over 10 minutes), and then it started the notorious thumping of a flat tire before the tread eventually ripped apart. I couldn't find anywhere in the 2022 Honda Civic Sedan owners manual that states anything to support the service writer. Only that it measures even tire pressure, which it obviously wouldn't have had, so the TPMS should have come on. Even if the TPMS didn't warn prior to a flat, I think it should have illuminated when the tread totally separated from the sidewall of the tire, and it did not. I sat with the car running for at least 20-25 minutes after getting off the highway, and it still never illuminated. From what the Ray Price Honda dealership service writer said, it didn't record any errors either.

Car has a faulty board control module. Car randomly starts itself in accessory mode, even when key fob is not present or batteries are removed. Other times, car will click and not turn on, or show random error messages. Car will intermittently not start; shows “keyless start system problem.” Car alarm randomly goes off. Car will intermittently not turn off once started. Internet search reveals multiple other individuals with the same problem, sometimes covered under warranty and other times not. Honda of America is sometimes helpful and other times, not. Problems are intermittent and difficult to reproduce, necessitating additional diagnostics by dealers. Among other problems reported are problems with door locks, windshield wipers, and headlights. I have concerns that the electrical problems will lead to serious safety issues, such as: lights turning on or off while driving; inability to turn off ignition in an emergency; wipers not working during rain (wet conditions seem to correlate to more problems, for other drivers and for me, suggesting an issue with corrosion), or getting locked into/out of the vehicle in an emergency.

This car has given me the same repeating issues. Winter time the screen blinks blank. AC issues because of the design. Feeling the car with my foot on the break at a red light makes me want to puke. And the big one the steering. After driving on the highway for a bit, I notice the steering has a sticky kind of groove it likes to be in. I have not found a solution to the problem. Safety-camera screen blinking but you're used to using it, could potentially hit something. Nausea in traffic not good for any one. Steering-trying to maintain a lane while the steering gets stuck to the left but the road is veering to the right, it's terrifying. The car has a mind of its own and only performs when it wants...no official dealer report. I don't believe there are any official reports in regards to my vehicle. There have been NO lights or any kind of warning or messages about this. AC was about a year into having the car. The screen happened first winter and every winter since. The sticky steering wheel has been like herpes for about the past 5 years. I just want to have nice things that work. Thank you for your time.

Keyless entry problem on my car. I was unable to get into my car and when I used the key from the fob to enter the car, the car wouldn't start. I was stranded and needed to call for help. The car was jumped and started again to get it back to my house. In the morning, the car wouldn't start again so was towed to a local mechanic in my town called Desert Dawg and they were able to start the car again and it drove for about a week and then the same problem happened. They put in a new battery and worked again for about a week. The car then would start but wouldn't shut off without disconnecting the battery. Then one night the car just started beeping uncontrollably and the car would not shut off the beeping and key fob not recognized. Towed back to Desert Dawg and said it was a keyless entry problem but the part he needed to fix it was on National Shortage and could take 7 months or more to get the part. He told me to take it to the Honda Dealership to see if they could help me. Car towed again to Honda dealership and they said it was a keyless entry problem and the part called a body control module with Part number: 38809-TBC-A31 was on back order and on National shortage and the part may not arrive for 7 months or longer or never. I now have no car to get to work. I called the Honda Corporation and got the same answer of this part being on national shortage. How can people be left stranded. I live in Arizona and the temperatures get very hot and people could die if their car doesn't start. Please address this issue. thanks.

Thanks for your support. The power steering is "sticky" causing to overturn and apply excessive force to get in to or out of a turn. I reported this to Honda in December and they diagnosed it as "electric power steering rack going bad. replacement needed" Warranty replacement. However, the part is under backorder and has no ETA since Dec 2023. I called Honda national and opened a case: 13730074 The vehicle was purchased at Rusty Wallis Honda Dallas in August 2022. They are refusing to service or replace the vehicle. I called them again today. The vehicle was diagnosed by Honda David McDavid Frisco Tx back in 31 Dec 2022 and they ordered the part. Still no ETA as of today. What are my options ?

The vehicle started dripping coolant at a pretty consistent rate, and it is a cracked engine block. Honda has issued a service bulletin regarding the issue, but most of these vehicles (2006-2009 Civics) are now out of warranty and have to replace the engine at their own expense.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 MPH in a rain storm and while making a right turn the steering had malfunctioned and the vehicle did not properly turn causing the driver to nearly loose control of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure would occur while making both right and left turns and while driving straight the steering wheel was off centered. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who realigned the steering assembly. The contact indicated that the failure was temperately resolved but eventually had reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA Recall Campaign number: 18V663000(steering). The failure mileage was 55,000.
