My car's steering has been sticky and catching. This often causes me to apply unnecessary pressure to correct the steering and could cause an accident. I had it verified at Honda of Murfreesboro that I need a new steering rack.

I want to express my genuine concern regarding a recent incident involving my daughter's 2022 Honda Civic Sport. On July 4th, while driving her car after a brief rain, she encountered standing water that had pooled along the side of the road. Unexpectedly, the car pulled to the right, and despite her best efforts to steer away, she couldn't as the steering wheel was locked. The loss of control resulted in the car careening right, jumping the curb and ending up on the sidewalk. I am grateful that while frightened and dazed, my daughter and her passengers escaped any physical harm. We promptly brought the vehicle to our trusted dealership to report the power steering failure and assess the resulting damage. We were disheartened to learn that since there is no existing recall on the power steering system, the dealership contended that the accident must have compromised the power steering and, therefore, repair was not covered under warranty. I want to emphasize that the power steering failure occurred prior to the accident and directly contributed to the car's loss of control. The vehicle has a mere 9000 miles on it, and my daughter was driving within the safe speed range of 40-45 miles per hour. We made the conscious decision to purchase a new Honda for our daughter to ensure she would not have to worry about unexpected breakdowns or malfunctions. Woefully, as is evidenced through incident, that is not the case. With the gravity of this situation in mind, I kindly request your immediate attention to this matter. I believe it is crucial that a thorough investigation into the power steering failure be conducted, acknowledging that the malfunction predates the accident and that Honda is responsible for the subsequent damage and distress.

The steering does not hold steady in a straight line. I cannot safely drive this car over 40 miles per hour, because I have to hold the steering wheel very hard to keep it from skidding off in a straight lane. even at slower speed the steering wheel becomes stiff and difficult to maneuver. It is not safe to drive on the highway at 65 miles per hour because the steering goes from side to side or locks up. Last week I nearly got into an accident on the interstate, but I moved fast and I got it under control. It all started at about 40,000 miles, with a noise and a very slight steering problem, I thought I needed to change the tires and alignment, I did, but the noise continued and as I use the car more the steering worsens. The Honda dealer ran a diagnostic recommending I replace the Power Steering Rack, costing $2700. Doesn't seem fair to me for such a new car.

The car which has 46K miles on it started is now have steering issues. The symptoms are that when driving, especially at highway speeds, there is a 'sticking' point in the wheel. The sticking point tends to be when the car is moving straight down a road. When doing even moderate steering corrections on the highway, the 'sticking' takes extra force from the driver to move the wheel. Once you do apply force, there is generally a slight overcorrection that will occur as the force needed to move the wheel exceeds what is generally needed for the correction. As a result of the 'sticking', you must constantly battle the car and correct the steering in order to drive it. Upon my visit to Honda dealer I was told, after a very quick inspection (5 minutes), that the Rack was bad and with parts and labor, the cost to install the new Rack would exceed $4K. I understand that the bad rack could cause the steering to lock. Outside of Honda and mechanics I have spoken with, I have not had other independent verifications of the vehicle. There are no warning lights on the car stating this issue.

When I’m driving the steering wheel gets stuck and the only way to get it unstuck is to pull hard enough to break the jam. It always gets stuck pulling to the left because every time I have to get it unstuck I have to pull to the right to break the jam.It happens every day and it’s really frustrating. Every time this happens is after 15-20 minutes driving. This is a serious safety hazard specially in a long drive because you are literally fighting the car to keep it in the center of the lane! 2016 Honda civic touring 62,000 miles It started doing this after 3 years with the car and approximately 37,000 miles. I remember because I took the car to the dealership and they told me that my basic warranty had expired at 36,000 miles or 3 years and the diagnosis and fixtures were going to be out of my pocket.

The steering is very sticky when driving at highway speeds, even with lane keep assist off. It requires excessive force to turn even turn the wheel slightly to the right or left resulting in over correction ice the wheel finally does turn.

The contact owns a 1991 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the front passenger's side and driver's side shoulder belts pretensioners failed to operate as designed and the shoulder belts failed to tighten during aggressive braking. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to an auto body shop. The vehicle was taken to the auto body shop, where the front passenger's side and driver's side shoulder belts and pretensioners were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Steering wheel sticks when driving, especially when turning left. This issue has been ongoing for years. I've brought it to the dealer but we couldn't replicate the issue at the dealership. It doesn't feel safe when driving and seems to happen when the outside temperature is high. I believe it's either the anti lock system or the steering rack needs to be replaced. No warning lights come on. The dealer said there is a pending review for recall for this issue.

All lights are on the 2013 Honda Civic LX. I took it to the dealer and turns out to be a faulty VSA Modulator... they quoted me $2000 for labor and parts. After extensive research, noticed many other Hondas in the same generation have the same issue. Should be a recall!

My car is nearing 39,000 miles now, but around the time it crossed 30,000 miles, I started to feel like there was a bit of a problem with the car "wondering" down the road rather than easily cruising straight. It was a very faint/subtle sensation, so it was hard to tell what it really was and wasn't present all the time (usually only at highway speed). As time has gone on, this issue has gotten gradually worse and is now becoming a safety issue in my opinion. The issue is more pronounced now, and it is obvious that it is an issue with the steering rack and/or steering assist components. When driving, anytime that I've been travelling for a moment without needing to steer left or right any, if I need to put a small steering input (for example, on the highway just simply staying between lane lines) the steering wheel will not want to turn easily at first. Then, once you finally increase your steering input enough, the steering will turn, but it will very suddenly become "easier/lighter" to turn, which is problematic because the car will now jerk and it is impossible to avoid turning the wheel further than I need to or intended to. So it creates an issue of constantly swerving back and forth down the road and is obviously very dangerous. The best way I can simply describe this issue is the steering wheel "sticks" in place when it is held in a constant position, and then once it stops sticking, the quick change in steering assist makes the car very hard to drive without swerving.

The steering is now very jerky and sticky at speeds 65mph and up it’s hard to make small adjustments and it’s extremely hard to control the car. At speeds lower than 20mph the car makes a loud noise coming from the steering rack to the steering wheel. My safety was put at risk during a long curve turn I tried to hug the left of lane as much as possible due to a big truck on the right lane and when I felt i needed to adjust back my steering locked and I compensated so I did not crash into the barrier and this point I jerked in the right lane and then back out in the left.

When the car gets hot after about 10 mins of driving in spring/summer weather the steering wheel feels like it’s sticks and the steering gets very tight. I then have to over compensate to stay in my lane and it’s constant until you stop and allow the car to cool off again.

I have noticed steering wheel stiffness/notchiness when traveling at varying road speeds. The issue is present when turning the wheel left and it takes more force than usual to return the wheel back to the normal position with audible clicks/groans heard when turning/returning the wheel to neutral. During highway driving, it takes more effort than usual to maintain the vehicle within the lane, like the car is fighting against you. I brought the car into the dealership while still in warranty and the vehicle was misdiagnosed as a sway bar coupler link issue. Having completed their repair recommendations, the issue still persisted and I brought the car back for further evaluation. The car is now out of warranty, and the dealership is stating it is an electric issue with the EPS. The way the part is engineered, the entire EPS rack must be replaced which would cost me upwards of $4200. I will be in contact with corporate Honda in regards to this, as the issue was brought to their attention while the car was under warranty, misdiagnosed, and now I am expected to pay out of pocket for the repair out of warranty. This issue has only gotten worse as time progressed and I am becoming increasingly concerned about my safety and anyone who drives my vehicle due to a manufacturer defect. Research online through the NHTSA website as well as other Honda Civic Forums show hundreds, if not thousands of other Civic owners experiencing the same issue I am and being expected to pay out of pocket for this manufacturer defect. I urge the NHTSA to take action and demand Honda to recall this product as it clearly stems from an engineering fault, not the consumer, and poses a massive safety risk to anyone driving a 2016-2021 Honda Civic.

AC component: Condenser and Evaporator (issue is systematic as it's creating issues to Freon) Current RECALL is only for Condenser but it's systematic to Evaporator (faulty part that has failed); I believe Honda is circumventing the cost to repair and is revealing only condenser part failure vs taking ownership on full AC component (if one fail the other will too). Reading blog, reddit, and many other complaints, outside repair shop says finding will still cost consumers $2,000 to fix evaporator caused by part failure. Issues still exist in honda model 2016-2019 and alarming rate of consumers venting the poor quality of the AC component. Honda quality control has not rendored and technician is having consumer fix parts that is near the area (systemic) to known faulty part. The contact owns a 2019 Honda Civic. The contact stated that her granddaughter was occupying the rear seat with the seat belt buckled, however, the seat belt failed to unbuckle and instead tightened, causing her granddaughter to have difficulty while breathing. The contact cut the seat belt and released her granddaughter. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.
