This is the same issue with the 2023 Electrified G80 Sedan and other Hyundai Group electric vehicles. When using the car in "i-Pedal" (one-pedal driving) mode — the highest brake regen setting — the car can come to a complete stop whenever I lift my foot off the accelerator pedal, without touching the brake. While in this mode, when I fully lift my foot off the accelerator, the rear brake lights illuminate as expected, however, I often slowly reduce pressure on the accelerator pedal to come gently to a stop. I've noticed that it's possible (and often the case) that I can decelerate to a full stop without the brake lights illuminating until I fully release the brake pedal (at the very last moment before I stop). This means that I can be slowing down at a pretty significant rate without any indication to the drivers behind. Conversely, when using the automatic cruise control (that keeps the car a set distance from car ahead), the brake lights seem overly active and flash on and off quite frequently, especially when going down hills (even if there is no deceleration and the car seems to be coasting). Both of these anomalies seem to aggravate other drivers following the car for different reasons, since the vehicle's intent isn't being properly communicated. The lack of expected brake lights when decelerating gently via i-Pedal mode seems potentially dangerous. I would recommend that Hyundai tune their software so that the brake lights illuminate automatically past a set threshold of deceleration/regen braking (above what would be expected if the car were simply coasting), but not requiring the driver to fully lift off the pedal, since at that point, the rate of deceleration is already uncomfortably high for typical driving.

Steering linkage intermittently causes steering wheel to bind when making an extended curve turn. Steering wheel will not return to center without driver effort. If not returned manually, vehicle will continue to veer to the side of the road. First occurred in July 2020 at mileage 27300. Vehicle taken to dealership where purchased (Davis Hyundai) for inspection. Service advisor stated they were aware of the issue and would replace necessary component under warranty. Issue resolved. Issue occurred again in December 2022 at mileage 47500. Selling dealer advised they were unable to service vehicle again as they no longer had the Genesis franchise. Was told to contact Fred Beans Hyundai in Doylestown PA. Contacted them on January 18, 2023 at which time the warranty was still in effect and advised service associate of the intermittent steering issue. Dealer could not service vehicle until February 27, 2023. Took the vehicle to them on February 27th for service. Service advisor said warranty had expired. This was true as of February 15th, 2023 not on January 18th 2023 when they were notified of the issue. Service advisor indicated they could not replicate the problem and therefore would not perform repair unless approved by Genesis. Over the past 6 months I have corresponded with Genesis Customer Service in an attempt to get the repair covered under warranty. I have been unsuccessful in getting this resolved. I continue to be told by the Genesis Customer Service associate [XXX] that the warranty group has not come to conclusion and that I must wait until they do. This is a serious issue that could potentially cause a complete freeze of the steering and cause a potential accident. I am requesting your assistance in getting this resolved. Marcela can be contacted at their Regional Consumer Affairs location [XXX] X [XXX]. The case number is [XXX]. The vehicle is available for inspection if necessary. - #11528366June 22, 2023ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Our 2023 Genesis G80 electrified has been towed three times for the 12v battery or its electrical system. We have yet to drive the Genesis once. It is a safety danger which produces toxic smells in the interior and the trunk plastic gets hot to the touch. The interior was impregnated with the smell as the car was closed. Given the symptoms, the dealership refused to drive the vehicle for service and had it towed due to safety concerns. They attempted repairs three times, finding no error codes or answers the first two times. They returned the dangerous defective vehicle twice. On the third repair attempt, they stated the battery has a short circuit that is causing it to overheat to temperatures over 166 degrees. They also found the accelerator pedal and sensor assembly was out of specifications. Both were replaced, but they have been unsuccessful in getting the smoke/burnt smell out of the vehicle. It has saturated into all of the interior surfaces. Both are extreme concerns for fire risk as well as danger when driving since the accelerator pedal was not working as it should have been.

The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G80. The contact stated that upon the vehicle sitting for as little as 24 hours, the AGM battery would abnormally drain, describing the issue as parasitic electrical drain. After having the battery recharged, the failure would recur. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic. The contact was unable to get in contact with the local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the cause of the failure, the contact related the failure to Manufacturer Campaign: (#902G Auxiliary Charcoal Canister Kit). The manufacturer was notified, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 19,000.

- #11524183May 28, 2023EXTERIOR LIGHTING
When using the I-Pedal feature the brake lights do not come on at any point when lifting off the accelerator pedal gradually. This certainly can cause the vehicle to rear ended if the following car is not paying attention. If you take your foot off the accelerator fully for full regeneration the brakes lights do come on. I was following my wife in her Genesis G80 EV and I noticed the brake lights not coming on. I did report it to both Genesis and the dealer but they did not know of any issue or could tell me when the brake lights should come on. This issue has been reported in the following article and it looks like it may be an issue with all the Hyundai Group EVs. https://apple.news/AyymCGI5gTlCa1ZeFW0jAxg

- #11522122May 15, 2023AIR BAGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
On May 9, 2023 @ 3pm. We were traveling at @60 mph when another vehicle pulled out in front of us. I hit brakes and swerved to miss the vehicle (which I did miss). I slid @ 350 feet, hit two divided highway medians/curbs and hit a concreted double legged (with at least 4 crossbars) stop sign with large solar panel and flashing lights. The front driver side of was crushed, the windshield and sunroof shattered as the solar panel and lights of the sign hit the car. The car was towed by the insurance company (Geico) and is awaiting their inspection. There was a police report/crash report created (Arkansas [XXX]) There were no warning lights or other indication of problems on the dashboard prior to the accident. The front passenger hit head on front and middle side beam and door glass. Has concussion. No airbags deployed and I don't think the automatic braking ever alerted or engaged. oil Pressure sending unit I tried to get it fixed at a local shop but they refused because it was too tough a job for their skill level, I was confused about s until I saw a video showing the sensor being under the manifold and between cylinders and someone had broken their timing cover while replacing. Driving with the faulty sensor could lead to not knowing if an oil pump has failed causing engine failure upon driving. problem has been confirmed have not taken to dealer for inspection, mostly because I have not had the money to pay for the job started around 68k miles, oil light went on.

The contact owns a 2023 Genesis G80. The contact stated that after a routine maintenance, the “Service Required” warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer who was unable to reset the warning light. The vehicle was diagnosed that the computer in the back of the radio needed to be replaced. The part was ordered but was defective. While driving the Navigation system, door locks, and radio became inoperable. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer where the part was replaced. While driving, the battery discharged message was displayed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer provided a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

- #11517566April 18, 2023FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My TWO WEEK OLD 2023 Genesis G80, which has less than 1000 miles on it, lost all motive power (i.e. power to the engine) after driving for approximately four hours. We were sitting in stop-and-go-traffic on the George Washington Bridge in New York, with the engine off (because of the vehicle's auto-off function). When the car ahead of us moved, I lifted my foot off the brake pedal, pressed the gas, and the engine immediately failed to respond, sputtered, and stopped. After about a minute, we were able to restart the engine and continue driving. We drove for another approximately 1.5 hours, including a short rest stop. Then, while traveling at highway speed of ~75 MPH in the left passing lane of Interstate 84, the engine again lost all motive power. When the accelerator was depressed, there was no response. I was able to (narrowly) safely maneuver (drift) my car into the breakdown lane, and when the car finally stopped, the engine stopped entirely (it had been sputtering while coasting). After a few minutes, I was again able to get the car re-started, and we were able to drive another five minutes, before the car again lost all power, forcing us to drift off the interstate into the breakdown lane, near the beginning of an off ramp. I saw that there was a Hyundai dealer approximately a mile off the ramp, and so tried to reach the dealership. The car lost all engine power multiple time, just trying to reach that dealership. In the parking lot, we were unable to even start the engine any time in the next three hours. Most concerning, after having the car towed to a Genesis dealer, the dealership reports that the car showed NO FAULTS OR ERRORS, and they are completely in the dark as to why the car lost all power, both while stopped, and at highway speeds, and failed over and over. The lack of any reported faults or errors is both baffling and extremely worrisome. The dealer "hopes" but is unsure, that replacing the GDI fuel pump will resolve the issue.

- #11514768March 31, 2023ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2018 Genesis G80. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, there was white smoke coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the turbo pipe seal had failed causing oil to drip onto the exhaust manifold causing the white smoke. The contact was informed that the turbo charger oil supply pipe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced under the NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V538000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) but the failure occurred. The failure mileage was 45,000.

I am the original owner and when my vehicle reached approximately 65,000 miles just past the warranty the oil service light would come on sometimes then go out. i have had documented oil changes from my dealer approximately every 3500 miles. Everything seems to be normal in the car and the oil level checked on a regular basis is always ok. When the RPM rises above 2000 rpm the oil service light goes out and returns when the rpm is lower. After visiting a Genesis vehicle Forum web site which i subscribe to i discovered that it's a common problem many vehicles owners of the Genesis model particularly the G80. I am told that the remedy is costly due the need to remove the entire vehicle's intake manifold to get to the device and replace it which is causing the problem. This appears to be a factory device part failure as was explained to me and it may or may not fail within or after the warranty expires. Also whenever it rains my ABS warning light comes stating that the system is inoperable. Never comes on in dry weather.

The oil pressure light comes on intermittently - often at low RPMs and then goes away at higher RPMs. It is a very expensive repair and appears to be just due to a faulty oil pressure sensor. The light causes issues because it covers up whether there is another more serious problem that needs attention.

245/40 R20 (FRONT) 275/35 R20 (REAR) The two front and one rear tire experienced sidewall failures within the first 25,000 of use. The tires have been disposed. I thank god that the failures did not occur at highway speed which could have caused serious injury to me and other motorists. There were no warning before the tire failures. After the third failure occurring on 2/12/23, I changed all four tires to Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season.

- #11504291January 29, 2023BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
After starting the car to leave home, the backup camera would not display. Placing car in reverse, the screen did not change from its MAP/nav display. Several other dash controls were also inoperable. It seems the car did not "initialize" successfully yet did not display any warnings. Unknown if any ADAS such as cross traffic or blind spot were inactive. Stopping and starting the car a second time resolved the issues. But, with no warnings, what could have happened if a driver did not notice the issue and do a "restart"? Too many software bugs.

Approximately May or June of 2022 I noticed my 2017 Genesis g80 began intermittently hesitating and hard shifting when I was driving so being that I hadn't had it even a year I contacted the dealer and Genesis. I was told the warranty was up with Genesis and advised to contact the extended warranty by Carvana (the dealer). I did, but when they didn't have any shops in network who felt comfortable working on my vehicle and a recall came up with the vehicle I contacted Genesis again and was sent to an authorized dealer who fixed the recall and also agreed to check my transmission fluid to make sure it wasn't the issue causing the hard shifting. Now, the problem is back and on Genesis owner forum it shows it's actually a known problem that they issued a TSB about as of September 2021 and my vehicle falls in the effected vehicles, but I wasn't made aware of this and they only want to honor repair if vehicle is still under warranty not as a recall which is insane since it's a safety hazard. The hesitation can make someone run into the back of you or your car hesitate to accelerate and they've since upgraded to using a different type in their cars due to the issue. So, if they are going to allow them to be sold and resold either Genesis or the dealers need to be responsible for making sure they are safe and the defective parts are repaired before selling the car.

Steering becomes unresponsive after highway speed for an hour or more. Feels like sticking or binding (loss of power assist?) and considerable effort needed to adjust vehicle direction. Most notable on exit ramps. Several times I came close to going off an exit ramp onto the shoulder. Even driving along a straight highway the steering is no longer smooth or consistent. Thus, steering is very unpredictable. This is definitely a safety issue. This started at 29,000 mile about 2 weeks ago and has not gone away. The first dealer service appointment is in 2 weeks. No visible error lights.

- #11496288December 6, 2022STEERING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
Genesis installed dated technology (3G modules) for their connected services knowing 3G was being discontinued within 4 years of installing the technology. On December 31, 2022, Genesis will cease providing connected services to this car and model years 2017-2019. Genesis Connected services provides critical emergency services such as crash detection as well as numerous safety features, vehicle diagnostics, warnings, and navigation. All of these will no longer be available and Genesis has offered no plan to fix the issue. The G80 also has a stability issue when driving without the lane keeping assist feature engaged. The car struggles to stay in a constant direction, essentially pulling from side to side. The driver is forced to constantly make corrections while driving. Essentially, the driver is required to make corrections, via the steering wheel, every second or less when at highway speeds. However, even at lower speeds, there is a constant battle to keep the car steady in one direction. There’s a constant pulling from side to side.

All lights warning lights illuminate and gauges stop working. Loss of functionality includes critical control and safety systems and features: •No Speedometer •No Turn Signals •No Tachometer •Odometer not recording miles •Airbag warning •Electric power steering system warning •Steering and driving assist failure •Brake System Failure Warning •ABS Failure Warning •Collision avoidance system failure (forward and rearward) •Check engine •AWD system warning •Lane keep and lane change assist system failure •Blind spot monitoring system failure •Reverse and surround view camera failures •No infotainment or radio control on center stack •Windows and trunk release inoperable •All in-car electronics •On-board maintenance system warnings, random resets All off the above failures occurred without any prior indication of an issue, while vehicle was in motion and being driven on public roads with other drivers and vehicles nearby. These are repeat and reoccurring issues, first appearing at approximately 3,900mi on 01/20/2022. This vehicle is not safe to be driven. It is a danger to its driver (me) and passengers, and also all other nearby vehicles and pedestrians. It remains at Genesis of Akron, despite the inability to be repaired. On November 18, 2022 they required me to turn in the loaner I had been given and I was informed neither Genesis of Akron nor Genesis USA will provide safe transportation during the arbitration or lemon investigation period(s).
