the 10 speed transmission at low transmission temps shifts extremley hard to the point where it will down shift in a slow acceleration back to first gear and chirp the tires, in the rain this could cause me to lose traction in adverse weather conditions. Somtimes it will shift into to neutral and not accelerate at all for a few seconds before shifting back into first gear, making it dangerous if I im trying to cross a road and the truck essentially stalls for a few seconds blocking the road way. The last full service oil change i had said the transmission fluid was correct. on online forums i have seen a lot of the same issues with other owners. I asked ford dealership about it and they told me to drive it until a warning light comes on. this sounds like some issue with the transmission itself and not a wear and tear issue as i have 100,000 miles on the truck and do very little towing with it.

When starting the truck on XXX, the transmission was stuck in 7th gear and would not reverse. It was one day out of the 5 year warranty period. Had it towed to Kendall Ford in [XXX]. They "found TSB 22-2428" and suspected an issue with the cdf cylinder. They determined that it was more cost effective to replace the transmission with a reconditioned one instead of repairing it. The total cost was about $9700. Because it was just out of warranty the dealership did give us a great discount, but we still ended up paying $2655 out of pocket. I also have a 2018 Mustang with the same 10 speed transmission. For the Mustang, I received a letter from Ford regarding Special Field Action 25L02 that provides a 7 year/70,000 mile warranty for similar transmission issues. I contacted Ford and they told me that there is no Special Field Action or Customer Satisfaction program for the F-150 transmission. I'm reporting this in the hopes that more people reporting problems with the 10 speed transmission will result in financial aid from Ford to cover the cost of transmission repairs on more vehicles than Mustangs. The vehicle experienced intermittent transmission-related drivability issues before the recall remedy was available. The vehicle had delayed/hard shifting, an intermittent wrench warning light, and a reduced power/limp mode condition where the transmission would not shift normally. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Ford dealer on multiple occasions, including diagnostic visits on 10/09/2023, 05/12/2025, and 02/09/2026. Ford later issued recall 26S28 involving the powertrain control module/transmission control system, and the recall remedy was performed. After the recall repair was completed, the original drivability concern continued, including sluggish shifting and delayed engagement between gears. As a second attempted repair related to the wrench warning light and transmission concern, the dealer identified the possibility of a faulty transmission lead frame and reviewed replacement under the applicable coverage. However, the dealer refused to replace the lead frame because the related fault code was not currently present during their inspection. The intermittent nature of the failure causes the code to clear after the vehicle is restarted, making it difficult to capture during a dealer visit. I provided photographic proof showing the wrench warning light was present after picking up the vehicle on the same day the recall repair was supposedly completed. Despite this evidence and the continued symptoms, the lead frame replacement was not performed. The vehicle has not been involved in a crash, but the intermittent loss of normal transmission operation creates a safety concern, especially during acceleration, merging, or uphill driving. The issue has been reported to Ford and inspected by a Ford dealer. Repair documentation, photos, and service records are available.

Lead frame. It is currently scheduled to be replaced for ~$915. XXX- Vehicle suddenly downshifted hard into first gear, all gages dropped to 0 values and then remained in limp mode until powering it off and then back on. The wrench was lit up on the dash initially but went away with no code stored after restarting. XXX- Vehicle experienced sudden, hard downshift again, this time to third gear. Speedometer dropped to 0mph and odometer dropped to 0 miles. The wrench came on. The problem resolved after turning off and then restarting it. Again, no codes were found stored. XXX- The truck experienced the same symptoms again, but this time restarting it didn't help. The truck would stay in limp mode in either 1st or 3rd gear. I "limped" it to an Autozone while the wrench was still on the dash and the OBDII scanner found the codes P0720, P0722 and P0731. I limped it from there to XX Ford where they reprogrammed the transmission based on the 19S07 recall. After reprogramming it Waldorf Ford said it was still having issues and that diagnosing it would cost $199. I opted to take it to a trusted transmission shop around the corner (XXX transmissions in [XXX]) and had them diagnose it and now have the work scheduled to be performed. On July 2, 2026, the vehicle was brought to an authorized dealer for a scheduled appointment to resolve active Safety Recall 26S45 / NHTSA Campaign 26V378 (6R80 transmission sudden downshift defect). The dealership refused to perform the recall software update, claiming it was not needed for the vehicle. On July 12, 2026, while traveling at highway speeds on a public highway, the transmission suffered the exact un-commanded sudden downshift described in the recall. The violent mechanical force instantly snapped the rear driveshaft in half and severed the undercarriage air conditioning lines, creating a sudden, life-threatening loss of control and wheel speed reduction on a live highway. The vehicle is now permanently disabled due to the dealer's refusal to fulfill a federal safety mandate.

- #11750676July 15, 2026POWER TRAIN, SERVICE BRAKES
Following a software update by Ford in the past 6-8 months, upon start-up my vehicle asks me which drive mode I wish to be in but then after 15-45 seconds "forgets" my answer and changes drive modes. This results in regenerative braking being disabled, at random, in the middle of a drive. This is a major safety issue, as I will expect braking to applying while easing up on the accelerator but that simply doesn't happen. This could cause an accident, injury or worse.

Immediately after starting the truck, I hear a loud popping noise coming from the radio. It sounds like an alarm noise for several seconds. I always turn the volume to 0, but I don't know if that's what shuts off the sound, or if it stops on it's own. The only way to clear the error with the radio, is to change the source from the current setting to a different source. ( FM to AM or Sirius ). This has happened multiple times. I've had the vehicle serviced by ford and received OTA updates that address this problem. One software update specifically said it addressed radio distortion issues, the other said that it would correct certain SYNC issues when starting the vehicle.

I purchased my truck used from its original owner, and until recently it has been an excellent, reliable vehicle. I had no idea there was a known issue with the transmission molded lead frame issue, and I was disappointed to learn that it was handled as an extended coverage program rather than a safety recall. When this failure occurred, my truck suddenly dropped into first gear without warning while I was driving. At first, I had no idea what was happening or why the truck would no longer accelerate properly. I got over just in time for a semi to pass me, thank God, because my truck was not going anywhere. If this had happened while I was pulling into traffic or in a more dangerous situation, the outcome could have been catastrophic. A vehicle that unexpectedly loses power or shifts into first gear without warning presents a serious safety hazard—not just to the driver, but to everyone else on the road. I have now been quoted more than $3,000 to repair this issue. As someone who purchased this truck in good faith, unaware of this known defect, this unexpected expense is extremely difficult to absorb.

Vehicle: 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Flash — 17,240 miles ▎ Current software version: itrm-25.B04 ▎ ▎ Following an over-the-air software update in November 2025, my truck will not stay in the drive mode I select. At every startup the vehicle prompts me to confirm Sport mode and I select Yes. The truck then reverts to Normal mode on its own, without my input. ▎ ▎ This happens every single time I drive the truck. I drive it at least three times a week and it has occurred on every trip since the update. The timing is unpredictable — sometimes immediately after Android Auto connects, sometimes at the end of my driveway, sometimes at the end of my road, sometimes several minutes into the drive. The randomness is part of the hazard: I cannot anticipate when the vehicle's braking behavior will change. ▎ ▎ There is no warning of any kind when the mode changes — no chime, no message, no alert. The only indications are that the small "S" disappears from the instrument cluster and the truck's driving characteristics change. The most safety-critical difference is regenerative braking: lifting off the accelerator produces substantially less deceleration in Normal mode than in Sport. I drive to the braking behavior I selected, and the truck silently takes it away from me. ▎ ▎ I have had two close calls as a direct result: ▎ ▎ 1. A vehicle ahead of me made a late right turn onto a side road. I lifted off the accelerator expecting Sport-mode regenerative braking to slow me. The truck had silently reverted to Normal. It did not decelerate at the rate I expected and I had to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision. ▎ 2. At a blinking light at the end of my road, a vehicle ahead stopped short. Again I lifted off expecting the Sport-mode regen I had selected, again the truck had changed modes on its own, and again I had to slam on the brakes. ▎ ▎ In both cases I was relying on the deceleration characteristics of the mode I set, and the vehicle had changed them without telling me. This be

The issue involves a loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module, which can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into second gear, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control. I purchased this vehicle in Feb 2025 used 2013 Ford F 150 6 Gear and this happened to me. I took it to the dealership, and they said the recall had expired and charged me over $1,300.00 to repair. This vehicle was always dealer serviced with Herb Chambers of Massachusetts and they failed to inform the previous owner of the recall. This Ford F150 2013 STX should be covered under this safety issue and they did not honor.

I had to replace my transmission entirely at my own expense after it ultimately failed. Prior to the failure, I had already filed a complaint because the transmission was exhibiting the well-documented symptoms associated with the 10R80, including harsh shifting and unpredictable operation. These issues created legitimate safety concerns while driving, as I could not rely on the vehicle to shift properly or respond consistently in traffic. A vehicle of this age should not require a complete transmission replacement due to what appears to be a design-related issue. Ford has acknowledged these transmission concerns in multiple Technical Service Bulletins addressing harsh shifting, delayed engagement, and related issues with the 10R80 transmission. However, despite recognizing these recurring conditions, Ford has not extended warranty coverage or issued a recall for affected vehicles. Additionally, Ford revised the CDF clutch cylinder/drum design in later-production transmissions, indicating that the original design was updated after these issues became apparent. Given the widespread nature of these failures and the subsequent engineering changes, I believe owners should not bear the full financial burden of repairing what appears to be a known defect. The financial impact extended far beyond the cost of the repair itself. Because my truck was out of service for more than six weeks awaiting replacement, I was forced to find alternative transportation while continuing to operate my own company. This caused significant disruption to my business and daily responsibilities, all due to a transmission failure that appears consistent with a known issue affecting the 10R80.

The automatic transmission suddenly downshifts to first gear at high speeds and causes high RPM to the engine and loss of control. I noticed the ford recall 19S07 but the dealer said it did not apply to my vehicle.
