- #11590072May 22, 2024SERVICE BRAKES
As I approached a stop sign and hit the brake the car did not stop. I pounded on the brake but there was no response at all; it just coasted forward. The car continued to move and hit the car in front of me stopped at the stop sign. That car, a Nissan Rogue, had no damage. I was barely moving but the plastic sheet in the front of the Lyriq was cracked.

There was “Brake System Failure” message on the EV’s digital display. It happened 3 times in less than a month. When it happened, I had to apply the break very hard. Otherwise, the car would not stop completely and would not hit the car in front. Top speed is limited 43 mph so I could not drive it on freeway.

- #11587903May 9, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Without warning and while driving this vehicle on expressway, I've received the following notifications several times: "Brake Failure" (car brakes on its own); "Service Stability and Auto Hold"; and "High Voltage" and Battery. Brakes, speed, steering, parking systems and camera do not work properly. Car's capacity to drive vehicle safely is reduced significantly - speed to drive car is immediately reduced and is limited without warning. Car shakes passengers violently (whiplash) when it believes there are people or objects in its path when there is nothing there and does not work properly when pedestrians are around the vehicle. During the incidents both my safety and other drivers safety are at risk - I am afraid to drive this vehicle although the dealership has indicated they have corrected the errors.Vehicle purchased 23 Oct - problems began around 2300 miles and have continued thru 4200 miles.

- #11587209May 6, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, BACK OVER PREVENTION: AUTOMATIC SYSTEM BRAKING
The automatic collision system braking is engaging when the vehicle is in reverse and while it is raining. This occurs multiple times while trying to back the vehicle up during rain. This is dangerous for the passengers since they are abruptly thrown backwards without warning. The vehicle must be placed in "park" and then "reverse" multiple times until the collision braking stops malfunctioning.

- #11584508April 22, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
The vehicle initially had a windshield manufacturing defect according to Cadillac Service Center which allowed plenty of water to go inside the vehicle during heavy rain. After the vehicle was serviced weeks later I was driving and the digital dashboard when completely yellow and red. At the same time the automatic brakes activated and I almost got rear ended. They serviced the car again after being tow trucked and “couldn’t” determine the cause of the dashboard incident shown on the pictures.

There is a problem with the dashboard lighting. It is very dim and hard to read the dash to choose and view options and screen in general. I noticed this the day I picked up the new car. The dealer said there was nothing he could do. I contacted Cadillac and was told to go back to dealer and have him make a TAC call with GM for adjustment. They did this and said it met there specs. This is a very dangerous safety issue as when you are driving you spend to much time trying to see dashboard for adjustments and you can’t keep your eye on the road. I filed a complaint with Cadillac Customer Assistance, case # [XXX] and nothing is getting done about the problem. I’ve talked with several Lyric owners with the same problem and I see online a lot of customers complaining. I’m hoping you can get involved and get Cadillac to resolve this problem for myself and many other owners. While driving at night, my headlights will randomly aim down. Can’t see the road ahead. When high beams are activated, they blast the front of the car. Cannot see anything down the road.

The Lyriq, as well as all current GM vehicles, use an icon on their instrument panel for indicating headlights are on that is incorrect. They use the symbol for parking lights rather than the symbol for low beam headlights on their instrument panel display. This is especially confusing because their own digital menu to turn on lights correctly shows the low beam headlights symbol for headlights, and the parking lights symbol for parking lights. However, turning on low beam headlights shows a parking lights indicator in the dashboard, and turning on the parking lights shows no indicator in the dashboard. It's my belief that, to help ensure no driver misunderstands what the symbols are indicating, that GM should have all vehicles properly use the low beam symbol for a dashboard indicator to show headlights, just like other vehicles use, rather than the parking lights indicator which is incorrect (both inconsistent with US convention, (as well as inconsistent with their own menu in the Lyriq specifically) to turn these lights on.

The auto leveling lights drift during driving. On staff up, the headlights will point up and down, then self level. However, for the past week, the right headlight drifts down towards the road and the left headlight will drift upwards after about 20-30 minutes of driving. The downward drifting headlight only illuminates about 1 car length ahead while the upward drifting headlight will point towards overhead street signs. This causes reduced visibility with increased flare and reduced headlight throw at the same time. It also is dangerous to incoming traffic since the left headlight ends up drifting upward to produce a throw similar to a high beam, even though the high beams are off. The only way to get the lights to re-level is to shut off the vehicle and restart. Even after this, the lights will only be at the correct level for about 20-30 minutes as they start to drift in opposite vertical directions while driving. There have been multiple reports of similar cases on forums discussing the Cadillac Lyriq. Since the problem only occurs noticeably after 20-30 of night driving, the dealer has stated they can not reproduce it while in their possession. There are no warning messages or codes displayed.

- #11571261February 11, 2024AIR BAGS, SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING
Driving on connecter road between 2 freeways at 35-40 mph because of traffic. Suddenly the car veers to left on its own and hits concrete lane guiding wall damaging the left front of the car. Next tried to brake and they didn't work. Unable to steer the car it heads to the right and up on the rocks decorating of the road. Car goes another 25 or more feet before stopping due to rocks slowing down the car. The air-bags never deployed. Tried to contact SOS button but didn't work. Next contacted ONSTAR but they were no help and didn't show that an accident occurred and said call 911 which was done. Ever since the purchase of this EV car have been having trouble with it. The Emergency light (red car on dashboard) lit up and went to dealer who kept the car over a week. Green car worked for a while but occasionally turned red. Went to dealer again. Also, one day the steering wheel would not work until tried several time to restart the car. Dealer managed to break the steering wheel and repaired it. They also cracked the glass on the computer screen but denied they did it. Was planning to enact the Lemon Law on the car. Car now in repair shop. VELLOCITY COLLISION CENTER, 8765 LINDELL RD STE 100, LAS VEGAS, NV 89139 TEL 7028971320. Called GM Cadillac to inform them of information on accident. They said they would report this to the engineers there and report back to me. That was right after the accident but they have never tried to contact me.

The 2023 Lyriq has 3 selections on the touch screen menu for the level of regenerative braking. They are: 1. Off 2. Low 3. High (I did not go out to my car to see exact wording) The serious issue is that, without notice to the driver, the setting can be reset to "Off". This must be a programming error or bug, but what is dangerous is expecting regenerative braking and NOTHING happens. You are forced to reset the level of regenerative braking. At a random interval, the setting will again RESET. This should get IMMEDIATE attention at GM's Lyriq design center.

- #11567137January 23, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
While driving the 12V battery system failed as well as the high voltage charging system. The vehicle lost traction control in the rain and was slipping on the road. The forward collision detection also intermittently goes out. If you are in one pedal driving mode and using adaptive cruise control when the forward collision detection goes out it will deactivate adaptive cruise control and apply enough regenerative breaking to rapidly slow the car. If the driver does not have their foot on the accelerator when this happens and you are in traffic it could cause an accident. The vehicle is not saving any diagnostic information regarding these failures and dealerships will not work the failures without diagnostic codes.

The 12 volt battery of my 2023 Lyriq died even though the main battery was at 79% charge. The car had sat unused for three days. The 12 volt battery controls the opening of doors, charging ports, and all other accessories. I was effectively locked out of my car without warning. The only way in the car is by using the key in the keyfob and crawling through the trunk. GM has known about this issue, but has not informed owners that this could happen and what to do. They believe it is from an installation of an over the air update stalling, but cannot prove that is definitively the issue. As a woman, I rely on my vehicle to be a place of safety and find it completely unacceptable to be locked out of my car in any public setting. I live in an urban area and have had to rely on my car as a place of refuge from people that I do not feel safe around. Having a jumper from the main propulsion battery to ensure that the doors still work should be integrated and customers alerted at a minimum. I'd rather sit inside a dead car and wait for help, than be stuck outside it or crawling through my trunk.

- #11553650November 5, 2023FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I was in a left hand turn lane. When I started to make the turn my vehicle lurched and stopped. I tried several times to go and this behavior repeated. Onstar called me (or I called them). They called 911 for me and a fire truck was dispatched to help me. I was in the intersection and afraid to try anything else until the fire truck arrived to control the traffic so I could be moved from the intersection. When they arrived I was able to put the vehicle in drive and drive it out of the intersection and then home. When I got home, I had Onstar run a diagnostic and there was an error code for the high voltage battery. I had previously reported to my dealer that I was getting alerts to service the high voltage battery (on the myCadillac app). They were unable to find a problem. No crash happened this time, but if it occurred when I was in front of oncoming traffic then a crash may have occurred.

Headlights droop over time driven which can severely limit forward vision. The limited vision forward at highway speeds certainly reduces safety. This is an intermittent problem that I can find no real pattern except that the longer you drive at night, the more likely the problem will surface. The problem has been confirmed and headlights replaced by at least three dealerships I first noticed the problem about 6 weeks after purchase because we do not drive much at night. [XXX] Also of interest is a surprising number of headlight assemblies for the Cadillac Lyriq are for sale on Ebay even though only a few thousand cars have been delivered. After dark, the rear camera is inactive. Also after dark, sometimes the backup lights do not come on in reverse. According to [XXX] , this is due to a defect with the rear electrical harness because an active license plate light circuit interferes with the camera and backup lights circuits.
