My 2023 Cadillac Escalade is part of NHTSA Recall 25V274 involving a potential engine failure due to defective crankshaft or connecting rod components. It has now been over four months since this recall was issued, and there is still no remedy or parts available, according to both my dealership and GM customer service. This defect poses a serious safety risk, as sudden engine failure while driving can cause the vehicle to lose propulsion, potentially leading to a crash. I use this vehicle for business, so it’s driven frequently with passengers, increasing the danger and financial impact. Despite contacting the dealership regularly and calling GM directly, I’ve been told the same thing every time: the parts are not yet available and there is no fix yet. The vehicle has not been inspected, and I’ve received no alternative solution or loaner vehicle. I am concerned about the length of the delay and the risk to my safety and others on the road. I’m asking NHTSA to investigate and ensure that GM provides a timely resolution.

ENGINE
While traveling 65 mph on a highway the car turned itself off and shifted into neutral. I was able to make it to the side of the road nearly avoiding a high speed accident. The car was placed in park and restarted. Less than five minutes later it did the exact same thing again. This time forcing me to come to a complete stop on a highway in a construction zone. The vehicle is only a few months old with 9k miles on it.

This car for work not luxury. I drive Uber and always on road. So I afraid something will happen. I want to change this car for new without recalls. Thank you

The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended and the contact heard a chugging sound coming from the engine. The dealer was contacted. The contact pulled over to the right side of the road awaiting towing assistance. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred before receiving notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The manufacturer was notified on the failure. ENGINE, POWER TRAIN
Due to issues identified in - Safety Recall N252494001 L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion We have had to get our Escalade [XXX] ) repaired with a cost of circa $9500. We are due to pick this up tomorrow. There was an issue with the lifters which caused damage to the engine and the crankshaft, the engine made a very louder noise so we pulled over . From that point on the vehicle would not start consistently, when it did it would not go into gear and would not go into neutral. My issue here is that although the issues that caused the repair to be neeed directly correlate to the recall my VIN is not included and thus we need to pay for this recall fix ourselves. Ideally my VIN and other like vehicles. Ours is a 2021 CADILLAC ESCALADE 4D SPT PLAT Should be included. Per the recall notice 2021 Escalades are included hovwever my VIN is not. I’m trying to understand why even though the make and model is indicated in the recall. I have reached out to GM, Cadillac and the dealership and they all point to each other with no one assisting at all INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

All cadillac dealerships are refusing to inspect the vehicle to ensure engine is safe despite specific instruction in recall that dealership will and determine if vehicle is affected. If not affected they will change oil viscosity. Dealerships are refusing to perform this test and change oil.

I was told of this recall. That my motor may just completely shut off at anytime and that I will hopefully be able to maneuver off of the road at that time. But Cadillac states they do not have a way to fix it at this time. IF something does happen, they will try. But only cars acting up are being looked at right now. Everyone else can just drive around and hope for the best. I’m scared to drive my car out of fear of it shutting down and causing me to get in an accident. I don’t want my family hurt, but I surely don’t want to hurt anyone else either. It’s unacceptable that there is no fix for such a serious issue and there isn’t even an estimate on when they will have a remedy, much less how long it will then take the dealership to do the repairs.

The contact tested the vehicle in reverse(R), drive(D), and park(P). The contact continued to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly slowed down to 10 MPH and slammed into park(P). The vehicle failed to move. While the vehicle was idling, the vehicle started to roll. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who determined there was no coverage on the vehicle for the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a claim. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

I purchased the vehicle two weeks ago. As we were driving on the freeway the car would not accelerate and it started making a clanking noise and then the cab filled with smoke. We pulled over and exited the vehicle. My husband opened the hood and saw a fire. He quickly put out the fire with 3 stanley cups of water. My husband said that the failure caused a hole in the side of the block and the oil completely drained out of the vehicle and was all over the freeway.
