I purchased this vehicle [XXX]. Within 2 days a rattle could be heard coming from bmw vanos area, VANOS is a variable valve timing system used by BMW on various automotive petrol engines since 1992. I ceased all use of this vehicle on [XXX], only 3 days. Through my own research i found recall 23v-707 which lists my vehicle and this problem. I had the car towed to a bmw repair shop Harrison Motorsport. The owner said the engine needs to be replaced. Next I tried in Vane to get bmwna or bmwag to warrant this repair. I have numerous emails from bmwag of munich germany saying they are aware and their north america partners will be in touch. The recall states you may drive this vehicle even though it may produce a crash,,,,huh? I have another bmw specialist 4 miles from my home. I drove the car this time to Brian Motor Works. The owner here stated that without a doubt these bolts had come loose. We planned to have him fix it the next week. Still at this time there were no dashboard warnings or internal codes to be found. I tried to drive as slow as possible back home. I went 2 miles and the 1st lights appeared on the dashboard. The engine shut down and I narrowly avoided a crash. The engine will no longer turn over and I believe it has seized. Through research this issue was 1st admitted in 2014. bmw stated it illegal to sell this vehicle as a certified pre owned bmw until these bolts are checked and or replaced. Mine have never been checked or replaced. I am thankful each day that my family was not with me when this happened, My attention was totally on this vehicle when it lost all power to steer or brake. I was very lucky this day, but I fear others will not be so fortunate. thank you. The recall for the failed Vanos bolts has been issued for over half a year, and no remedy is available. It does not make sense to wait this long for an engine fix recall. Before the remedy is available, some BMW owners have even experienced engine failure due to the Vanos bolts issue, but there is no compensation. Please put pressure on them to address this recall in a timely manner. Thank you!

BMW issued a recall 10/23/2023 for VANOS Assembly (Engine) Bolts and I have been trying to get my vehicle repaired since January 2, 2024 when my care started having a rough running engine with the Check Engine lamp illuminated and the car was barely maintaining speed on the interstate. I was fearful of having a wreck or being run over by the other cars since my car was not responding to giving it gas to accelerate on the road. I have contacted BMW on 1/2/2024, 4/15/2024, and gain today 5/21/2024 and they are telling me the remedy is still not available. I had Groves Automotive, a certified BMW repair shop, who are my automotive repair shop call for the repair too. My car was just serviced at Groves in the last 3 weeks and passed inspection. The Check Engine warning lamp came on again this morning while driving to work and again the vehicle was not able to accelerate and was running very rough. I am fearful of my safety and the safety of others when I have to drive back and forth to work.

The engine has been making some rattle noises like the sound of loose bolts for months now. I have contacted various BMW dealerships in orange county and san diego, and all of them say the same thing: A remedy is not available yet so we cannot help you. Finally today, my "Service Engine Soon" light went on. I did some research and failure of the VANOS bolts can lead to the car stalling at speed, risking a crash! This recall has been open for half a year now, and it seems the remedy is simply to replace those aluminum bolts! PLEASE help me get this through so that I don't end up in an accident or on the side of the road. This is for Recall Campaign No. 23V-707. The recall even states "if there is unusual engine noise, which may include illumination of the check engine or service engine soon warning lamp, do not continue to drive your vehicle and immediately contact the nearest authorized BMW center to arrange for pickup and transportation of your vehicle to the BMW center."

- #11588925May 15, 2024AIR BAGS, SEATS, SEAT BELTS
Front Seat Passenger Side Seatbelt warning indicator activates when no person is in passenger seat. Airbag warning light illuminates even when there is a passenger in the seat. I see numerous complaints about the same/similar issues in your data base, but seemingly no resolution or recall. My car is a convertible. I note from other complaints on your website that a related recall was initiated for my year make model but it did not apply to convertible version of this model. That is irresponsible and unacceptable.

I bought the car new and since then, on four separate occasions with the engine running and the brake depressed, the engine begins to race at a high speed and on two of those conditions, the car lurched forward and I struck the vehicle in front of me. On the other two occasions, the car did not move forward but the engine was racing. BMW did their inspection on the vehicle and found nothing out of the ordinary but said when this happens again to place the car in neutral and turn off the engine, I'm concerned that when this happens again, I may be at a crosswalk and actually strike a pedestrian causing personal injury or worse. I honestly now feel uncomfortable driving the car as I deem it a safety issue and request assistance.

My 2010 BMW is under Recall 23V707 for vanos bolt replacement since October 2023. The check engine light is now on, and the dealer still (May 10, 2023) reports that BMW North America has not sent out replacement bolts. Six months seems like a long time for BMW to not be able to find new bolts and Valve Gasket Covers for the affected vehicles.
