This is the second complaint I have filed with the NTSB. The transmission in my 2020 Acura RDX feels as if it is slipping. From a complete stop to trying to advance the call forward, the engine will act as if it cannot find first gear and then will "jump". This does not happen all the time but is frequent enough to garner my attention. This problem started immediately after I purchased the car. I have brought it to the attention of the Acura dealer multiple times but the refuse to deal with it because they say the NTSB has not issued any recalls for this particular problem.

Three hours into a four hour road trip, we had been driving in the rain when needed to overtake a slow car in the right lane. Went to accelerate when car lost all power and a check engine light came on flash. Pulled over to the emergency lane and turned flasher on. Car had to be glided into the lane as there was little to no power when using the gas. Thankfully we had not passed the vehicle yet when we lost power and the car behind us had enough room to slow down. After turning the car off and on again check engine light went off and car had normal power again. We were able to drive it for the next hour without further issue. We will be bringing this into the dealer to have it inspected. Currently car has only around 18k miles on it and have never had this issue before.

While traveling to my dealer on interstate 69 in Indiana, in the rain, I had to accelerate to avoid a conflict with a truck. When I pushed the accelerator to the floor, the Check Engine Light came on and the car went into limp mode. I had to pull to the shoulder and restart the car to continue. The dealer provided me a loaner 2021 Acura RDX, VIN #5J8TC2H5XML023677 with 740 miles on the odometer, which experienced the same phenomena, Check Engine Light coming on in the rain under acceleration, when I was attempting to merge onto Interstate 69 at Illinois road in Indiana. Pulling over to restart the engine allowed me to continue.

Driving 70 mph down interstate and all of the sudden the check engine light started flashing and the vehicle lost all power. Had to make an emergency move to the shoulder. The check engine light remained flashing and when car shut off and turned back on the engine light was not on and vehicle operation seemed to turn to normal. Have seen other reports of this specific model of vehicle losing power at highway speeds and is very dangerous situation.

Windshield chips and cracks easily from minor road debris. My 2019 Acura RDX Advanced with approximately 22,000 miles has needed to have the windshield replaced 3 times since purchasing (fourth windshield since buying). The latest replacement lasted less than a week before cracking again. These cracks hinder the structure of the windshield, can obscure view, or refract light; limiting driver visibility and affecting the safety system. Seemingly minor strikes from road debris cause stellate chips and cracks 3-4 inches long that cannot be repaired; requiring complete replacement of the windshield and realigning of camera/radar safety systems. The windshield was replaced by professional service (Acura referral) service center using Acura replacement glass. Based only on my personal experience with other cars, this seems a too common event that is likely the result of a manufacturing defect or design flaw. Speaking with the tech at the service center, he said this is a common problem for this vehicle but could not point to any official reports or references.

2021 RDX A-spec 7322 miles northbound Hwy 95 Nevada to Oregon, raining. Attempted to pass semi, car behind me also passing semi, sudden loss of power, almost hit from behind, risk of on-coming traffic, able to move to right behind semi. Feeble response to any attempt to accelerate, barely limping along, moved to right shoulder and then to pullout, blinking check engine light, no other warning indicators. Idled engine for several minutes, continued to run rough, would not rev, check engine light cycled off, then back on (blinking), then off over period of several minutes. Turned engine off, waited 10 min or so, restarted ok, finished rest of 600 mile journey scared to pass lawnmower. Life-threatening event for my wife and I, several moments of sheer panic. First time this has happened.

- 2020 Acura RDX Aspec - my 2nd one of this model!!!!! - Tue, 18May2021 - travelling at ~65 mph on the Houston Hardy Toll Road and lost all ability to accelerate and MIL (engine light) came on - I was able to pull over 4 lanes to the right shoulder safely - I turned the car off, waited ~30 seconds and then turned the car back on - I drove to the dealership, Gillman Acura, which is ~21.4 miles, and delivered the car - Gillman Service Rep advised that they were applying the intercooler replacement fix associated with Acura Service Bulletin 20-053 - issued 21Apr2021 - Dealership replaced intercooler, I picked up the car on Thu, 20May2021 - drove ~22 miles home and the very next day, Fri, 21May2021, when i was ~3 blocks from my house, the VSA - vehicle stability assistant light came on - 21May2021 and the car is back at the dealership for repair - The RDX is a rolling death trap and I pray that it doesn't take one or more fatalities and/or serious injuries to Acura owners and/or others before Acura does the right thing - a recall - In Apr2021, I purchased the first 2020 RDX Aspec, VIN: 5J8TC1H6XLL014219, and experience the "limp mode" issue on 4Jul2020 while traveling on I-10 west from Tallahassee to Houston - vehicle had 2.8K miles and experienced limp mode - see NHTSA complaint > 11339164 - Dealership exchanged the first car and now I've experienced "limp mode" with the second car

My car's engine quit as I was about to make a right turn off a 6 lane road. It would not restart. By design, the transmission immediately goes into park (electrickly). There is no way for the driver to put it into neutral so it could be pushed or serviced by a flat bed tow truck. As a result my car blocked the turn lane requiring numerous cars to go around me putting my wife and I in danger of being hit. It also put the drivers of cars who were detouring around me in danger of collision with cars in the three thru lanes. The police placed one of their cars in the lane with lights on to mitigate the danger. They also tried to start my car un-succcessfully. The dealer repaired my car by replacing a defective "O" ring in the fuel pump pressure line. This was a recall item I had previously had done by the dealer

IT WAS MILDLY RAINING AND I WENT TO ACCELLERATE ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND ALL A SUDDEN WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND STUTTER AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE I LACKED POWER. THE VEHICLE THEN REFUSED TO ACCELERATE AND I HAD TO DANGEROUSLY GLIDE OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT POWER AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. EVERY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE FIXED AND THEY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH AN ENGINE COIL. THREE WEEKS LATER IN THE SAME SITUATION IN THE MILD RAIN THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. I WENT TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY IN A MILD RAIN THE CAR BROKE DOWN THE EXACT SAME WAY. I AM WAITING FOR IT GET DIAGNOSED AGAIN.

THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SO DIM NIGHT DRIVING IS IMPOSSIBLE. NEW BULBS AND LENS CLEANING HAD NO EFFECT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE PROJECTOR HEADLAMPS GROWING DANGEROUSLY DIM ON ACURA'S IN THIS MODEL YEAR RANGE. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND POSES AN IMMINENT THREAT TO PUBLIC SAFETY.

STARTING AROUND 100,000 MILES I NOTICED THE LOW BEAMS WERE TOO DIM. I REPLACED THE BULBS TWICE WHICH HAD NO EFFECT. I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES SO I TRIED TO LIMIT MY DRIVING TO DAYTIME, OTHERWISE I HAD TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS TO SEE SAFELY. NOW MY VEHICLE HAS 135,000 MILES AND THE LIGHTS GOT WORSE TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT DANGER TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. I SEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THE INTERNET IS FULL OF ACURA OWNERS WITH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY THING. ACURA KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND ACTUALLY RECALLED THE 2014 RDX BECAUSE OF IT, BUT NOT THE 2015. I APPEALED TO ACURA TO ASK THEM TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND THEY SAID NO, CITING 1) TOO MANY MILES ON THE CAR (HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT A PART THAT SHOULD BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO WEAR AND TEAR .....I HAD A TOYOTA WITH 300,000 MILES THAT NEVER NEEDED A HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THIS ANSWER HOLDS NO MERIT 2) I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAR SERVICED BY ACURA DEALERSHIP. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE TO PERFECTION THROUGH MY OWN MECHANIC AND WOULD NEVER PAY THE RIDICULOUS EXORBITANT FEES THE DEALERS CHARGE. JUST BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE MY CAR SERVICED WITH THE DEALER DOESN'T MEAN I DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF MY CAR. 3) THEY DON'T RECOGNIZE THIS AS A SAFETY CONCERN. I'M INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED AT ACURAS RESPONSE TO THIS. THIS IS MY FIRST ACURA AND WILL CERTAINLY BE MY LAST. THEY HAVE A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY TURN A BLIND EYE TO IT. WOULD THEY ONLY TAKE ACTION WHEN SOMEONE IS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT? ACURA NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND RECALL THIS MAKE AND MODEL. AND THEN THEY NEED TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES BECAUSE OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS SEEM TO HAVE FIGURED IT OUT. MAYBE THEY SHOULD CONSULT WITH TOYOTA

- #11413566April 23, 2021SERVICE BRAKES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2017 ACURA RDX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING, THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET TO 25 MPH, WHEN SHE DEPRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AT THE STOPLIGHT, BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND, WHICH RESULTED IN HER VEHICLE REAR-ENDING SIX OTHER VEHICLES. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED AS THE CONTACT AND HER HUSBAND WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR THE INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED ONE OF THE DRIVER, WAS ALSO TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL, BUT SHE WAS UNCERTAIN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING LOT AND THE CONTACT DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REVIEWING THE VEHICLE'S MANUAL, SHE LEARNED THAT THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL HAS LIMITED BRAKING CAPABILITIES AND WOULD AUTOMATICALLY CANCEL IF THE SPEED DROPS BELOW 22 MPH. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. *DT

PURCHASED VEHICLE USED AT 107,000 MILES. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE DIMMER THAN THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN THE DARK. THE FIRST TIME I DROVE IT BEFORE SUN UP I PULLED OVER AN WALKED TO THE FRONT TO SEE IF THEY WERE ON. THE ILLUMINATION IS INADEQUATE WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED OR IN MOTION. APPARENTLY THE REFLECTOR MATERIAL HAS DETERIORATED IN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING SO REPLACING THE BULBS WON'T RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THESE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES SHOULD BE RECALLED.

FAILURE DATE 4/15/21. CLIENT DRIVING A 2020 ACURA RDX AT 75MPH AT NIGHT WITH LIGHT RAIN RETURNING HOME ON US281, SOUTH TEXAS. VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN DECELERATING TO ABOUT 45MPH, WITH NO RESPONSE THROUGH THE GAS PEDAL TO MAINTAIN SPEED. VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS FLASHING. VEHICLE PULLED OVER TO OFF RAMP AND IDLED TO A GAS STATION THAT WAS NEAR.. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER THE NEXT DAY. DEALER INITIAL RESPONSE WAS THAT NO ISSUE WAS FOUND AND ATTRIBUTED IT TO "BAD GAS". VEHICLE OWNER DID NOT ACCEPT THIS ANSWER AND ASKED DEALER TO SEARCH SERVICE BULLETINS. THE NEXT DAY, IT WAS FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL INCIDENTS REPORTED ON THIS FAILURE MODE, AND THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF PN# 19710-6B2-A01 WHICH INCLUDES AN INTAKE INTERCOOLER KIT PN# 06198-5YF-305, AND LUBRICANT PN# 08734 WAS THE FIX OF THIS ISSUE. THE FIX PREVENTS MOISTURE FROM ENTERING THE INTAKE INTERCOOLER ASM AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE ENGINE TO DECELERATE INTO "LIMP MODE". NOTE: ALSO, VEHICLE PGM SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. .

WHILE ACCELERATING THE CAR STARTED STUTTERING AND LOST POWER. IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. AT THE LIGHT I SHIFTED TO PARK AND BACK TO DRIVE AND THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. I WAS ONLY 2 BLOCKS FROM HOME SO I CHECKED ALL FLUID LEVELS AND THEY ARE ALL OK. I DROVE THE CAR AROUND THE BLOCK SEVERAL TIMES AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY.

ON 4/17/2021 MY WIFE AND I WERE TRAVELING FORM FLORIDA TO CALIFORNIA, WHILE TRAVELING ON I -49N IN LOUISIANA I WENT TO ACCELERATE AROUND A SLOWER CAR AND WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS OUR CAR LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING CAUSING US TO SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN AND ALMOST BEING STUCK BY OTHER AUTOMOBILES IN TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE AND SHUT OFF OUR SUV FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND THE ISSUE WAS GONE.

TOOK OFF FROM STOP VEHICLE MAKES A LOUD THUD AND DOESN'T SHIFT INTO A GEAR. REVS UP BUT WON'T SHIFT. TOOK IT TO PRIME ACURA. THE COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. CHANGED TRANSMISSION, TRANSFER CASE AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUIDS. ONE MONTH LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TURN OFF ENGINE THEN RESTART AND THE PROBLEM IS GONE. NOT SURE IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.

PLEASE REFER TO PREVIOUS ACURA HEADLIGHT RECALLS, 14V323000 & 15V301000. I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2015 ACURA RDX. NIGHT TIME DRIVING IS DANGEROUS. SINCE HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM OUTPUT IS SO LOW, HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND WITH HIGH BEAMS ON. I HAVE READ A LOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON ACURA FORUMS. ACURA DEALER OFFERS TO REPLACE THEM BUT THEY CAN'T. HEADLIGHTS ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. THAT TELLS ME IT IS A MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM THEN THEY WILL ADMIT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS SAFETY ISSUE.
