I am the original owner of a 2014 Acura RDX, and I've been facing headlight issues since hitting 70,000 miles. The problem has worsened, making it extremely dangerous to drive at night due to the excessively dim headlights. I've nearly been in two car accidents because of this visibility problem. I've ruled out lens clouding as the cause and discovered that the issue lies with the coating inside the headlight assembly, leading to significant dimming during nighttime use. This poses a serious safety hazard, and I believe the dealer should issue a recall to address it. It's concerning that many others have experienced the same problem, yet Acura hasn't taken action to resolve it, despite the evident safety risk. Notably, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , Honda issued a recall for certain Acura RLX vehicles with the same issue, but not for the RDX. I feel that it's time for the government to intervene and compel Acura to conduct a recall for this problem. Safety should be their top priority, and prompt action is necessary to ensure the issue is resolved. On a related note, Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP (CSK&D) is currently investigating a potential class action lawsuit involving Acura vehicles, including the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Acura RDX models. Reports suggest that these vehicles have unsafe low-beam headlights that gradually dim over time, creating a safety risk, especially at night when visibility is crucial.

- #11534996July 28, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
5 different occasions where the car enabled the emergency braking system for collision when there were no possibility of collision. This has occurred twice on the freeway, where all of a sudden, the vehicle slams down on the break, coming to a screeching halt. No vehicle or other object in front, side or back of vehicle that should cause this. The other instances happened on city roads and similar to the freeway instances. Hard braking for no reason, jolting me and passengers forward and causing vehicles behind me to not understand why we stopped randly and took so long to get going forward again as the emergency system doesn’t have a quick override.

My 2014 Acura RDX only has 24,000 miles on it and the headlight are so dim I cannot even tell if they’re on at night!!! This is extremely dangerous!!! To replace these headlights through my local dealer cost over $850! I’ve found on the internet that this is a very common problem that thousands have had! I cannot believe that the government has not forced Acura to recall for this problem!!!

The headlights are extremely dim making night driving unsafe. The Acura of Chattanooga attempted to deglaze the exterior of the light housing, but the problem is inside the round bulb cover. It is easily visible to see the glaze covering the inside of the bulb. This low light/visibility problem is constant at any speed.

While driving in the left of I20 East's two lanes on a descending hill with 5 cars ahead and an unknown number of cars behind at 70+ mph and all cars packed in close to the car ahead, I saw the lane had no real shoulder before a drop-off and the right lane had a narrow shoulder before it dropped off into woods and brush. The right lane was packed with 18-wheelers. In order to avoid constantly breaking the full length of the hill, I shifted into manual mode and a lower gear, but the car ahead began to brake suddenly and hard. Just a second before that car broke, I unlocked the shifter and was moving it forward to Drive. As the car ahead was drastically slowing, I had to hit the brakes hard to avoid rear-ending him, and the momentum of sudden braking threw my hand and the shifter all the way forward into Park. The transmission immediately produced a harsh grinding sound, I no longer could disengage the transmission from Park, and the only controls I now had were brakes and steering. Alarmed I knew I had to get to the right shoulder but I couldn't look back to see how close trucks were behind the one to my immediate right, but by braking that truck slowly moved ahead of me, providing a brief opening behind him in the right lane. As I cautiously moved into that opening, I could see an 18 wheeler approaching but still a short distance back. I continued slowly drifting into the right lane with blinkers on, when suddenly the approaching truck behind veered partially into the right shoulder in anticipation of passing me in the narrow shoulder lane. In the split second of his veering, I slowly continued into the shoulder lane causing him to veer back into the right lane, his rig full of new cars jerking back left. As I gradually slowed to a stop, the truck was approaching so fast that in my rearview mirror it looked like he might not miss me. As he shot by, he cleared me by not much more than a foot, his draft shaking my car. AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION GOING INTO PARK @ 70MPH

Front Headlights are very dim, making it impossible to use without using the brights. Bulbs have been replaced to high intensity, and it still does not help. According to my mechanic and on-line forums, the problem is the reflective material inside the headlight assembly. Other models of Acura's have been recalled for this, but not the above model. It is getting very dangerous to drive and we do not want to spend the money for two new headlight assemblies when this is a defect in manaufactoring

My name is Jorge L Cremades, my mobile phone is 786-546-6956. Today, 7/17/2023, around 2:42 PM EST, as I was driving / backing up in my driveway, my 2023 RDX shattered it's rear glass. As I was backing up in my driveway and looking through the side and back mirrors, I heard a loud noise and when I looked back into my car I saw my rear glass was blown away like it exploded or something similar. I bought this vehicle on 5/15/2023.

My car has been shaking on acceleration but no engine light or any warning popped up. When I called an Acura dealership, they said they would have trouble diagnosing the problem without a light on. A few days later, while accelerating on the highway, my car started shaking violently and lost power. The engine light started flashing. I could have gotten into an accident because I could no longer accelerate on the highway. I had to slowly pull off to a safe stop. This could have been a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Someone could have crashed into me behind me and I could not quickly get into a safe area. I brought it to an Acura dealership and they could not find anything. The engine light had turned off. Though, when I took the car again, the car was still shaking on acceleration. I was afraid to drive at normal speeds since it is extremely safe. I took it to another personal mechanic and he was able to reproduce the problem. He saw there is a service bulletin out for just this problem. The possible cause is “humid air within the intake tract May condense and accumulate excessive moisture during steady driving.” I would have to replace the intercooler system and get the PGM-Fl software updated. This is a safety issue, and Acura has not released any recalls on this. The dealerships are also saying it will not be covered by warranty for me.

Since 2020 the headlights on my car have gotten dimmer, to the point that it does not even look like they are on or illuminate anything at night. If I have to drive when it’s dark I have to rely on my high beams when it’s safe to use them on the road. I have changed lightbulbs and cleaned the exterior of the headlights as suggested by dealership with no change. The only remaining option I was told was to pay to replace the headlight setup/pieces for $800-$1000 each. When I have had my headlights inspected I am told there is no recall for this issue, but every person has noted that they are extremely dim and it is a common problem with my model.

I am the original owner of the vehicle and have kept up on all routine maintenance. At about 65K miles the headlights started getting dimmer and it is impossible to see at night. It is like having a bic lighter for headlights. It is not the lens clouding over and there are numerous other consumers online that have the exact same problem. Online reasearch shows that there is a problem with the coating on the inside of the headlight assembly that makes the headlights dim at night. This needs to be recalled by the dealer and is definitely a safety hazard! Acura will not address the issue and they recommend changing the whole headlight assembly at $18000 for parts. I tried putting in brighter bulbs and this did not fix the problem. Please help!!

Problem: Dim low beam headlights. I first noticed this issue around the end of 2020 to 2021 (mileage around 80,000). It got progressively worse over the next 2 years. I believe that it is now unsafe to drive this vehicle at night. I have contacted Acura customer service (American Honda) regarding this problem 12/06/21 case #[XXX]. I have made a number of efforts to improve brightness including refinishing plastic lens, replacing halogen bulbs, replacing with LED bulbs but none of these have improved the unsafe low beam headlights. On my last visit to the Acura dealership I was told that I had a fogged projector glass in the light assemble. the only repair would be to replace the entire light assemble both right side and left side costing $3,500.00. On 7/5/23 the Honda case worker says that because there is no recall they can not do anything about it. Low beam headlights do not provide enough light for night driving. Just purchased a used Acura RDX with 100k miles for my daughter and I do not feel that it's safe to let her drive after dark. This appears to be a known issue with the RDX ranging 2013-2015 and I'm surprised to see there have been 0 recalls for this obvious safety issue. Hope this writeup is the one that tips the scales to force a recall.

Low Beam headlight is extremely dim. You can't even tell they are on in pitch darkness. This may be due to the reflector housing deteriorating.

Not sure where to direct this, so please redirect if this is the wrong inbox. I recently went into a local service appointment to have our passenger seat belt buckle replaced at Acura Concord. We had noticed that the belt was not seating securely in the buckle, and could be removed with minimal-to-moderate effort (would guess 15-30 lbs of force) - certainly not safe in a collision. It started to stick intermittently, and slowly got worse over time until it got to a point that it was clearly unsafe. We were concerned and I proactively paid to have it replaced. The service technicians suspected that something might have entered the belt and was preventing the mechanism of working correctly. However, upon replacing the buckle, the service technician reported that the belt buckle had no foreign objects inside it, and appears to have been mechanically failing. This was alarming, and I quickly searched online to find the current seatbelt recall. However, my vehicle is not a part of that, but maybe should be given the technician's findings. The technician's report can be found through Acura of Concord, and has a reference number of RO#203423 / Tag# 172B. I asked the technician for the faulty belt and currently have it in my possession (pictures of it sticking are attached, this is the first and only time I've touched it since the appointment). Please let us know, we'd like to make sure these vehicles are as safe as they can be for all purchasers. Appreciate your time and attention here.

2021- Reporting a clicking sound coming from the passenger's rear. Reported several time unable to find reported clicking noise. Service Manager and Serice Tech rode with me to try to locate noise - on two occasion noise was heard and services were done (brake and tires) only to have the noise return the next day. Ownership of vehicle is now into the 3nd year and noise is still heard. I suggested to look at the struts. Service tech indicated it's not the struts.

On a new ACURA RDX with 10,771 miles my wife was charged $315 dollars by the local ACURA dealer for "differential service" because "sub code 6" was on the maintenance minder. I believe this is a scam or any differential service should be under warranty. I pursued the complaint with HONDA extensively on the phone and just now was called back by HONDA and told that is regular maintenance and is not covered by the new car warranty. No car that I have ever owned needed differential service after 5 months - this is a scam.
