Important Warnings for Owners and Dealers

BMW has issued critical instructions regarding vehicles affected by this delivery stop:

  • "Do not deliver to a customer, a New, Certified Pre-Owned or Used vehicle subject to a Delivery Stop, until the vehicle is repaired."
  • "Do not use or sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a Delivery Stop."
  • "You will not be able to determine which side needs replacement. The ticket will be resolved with the sales order number and the side you will need to repair."

Situation and Affected Vehicles

BMW AG initiated a Delivery Stop, effective July 12, 2024, for specific Model Year 2024 BMW X3 (G01 Sports Activity Vehicle) and X4 (G02 Sports Activity Coupe) vehicles. These vehicles were produced between April 26, 2024, and May 13, 2024.

Vehicles requiring this campaign will show an "Open" status in BMW's internal systems such as AIR, AWP, Campaign Summary, or Warranty Vehicle Inquiry. Dealers are advised to check their inventory promptly using Inventory Campaign Details (ICD) under ROSS.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may eventually notice "Metallic" noises. This symptom indicates a potential problem with the tension strut assembly.

Cause of the Issue

The root cause of this delivery stop is that the tension strut was not properly secured to the swivel bearing during vehicle assembly. This deviation from manufacturing instructions can lead to the nut loosening over time.

Correction

The required correction involves replacing the affected hexagon nut on the swivel bearing. This ensures the tension strut is securely fastened according to BMW's specifications.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair procedure, detailed in BMW Service Information Bulletin SIB 31 06 24, involves replacing the hexagon nut on the tension strut. Technicians should refer to REP31 12 050, specifically Step 5, diagram 4, for instructions on removing and installing the left or right tension strut.

The process includes removing the existing hexagon nut (1) and replacing it with a new one. The new nut must be tightened to specific torque values: a joining torque of 100 Nm followed by an additional 90-degree angle of rotation for the M16 nut. It is crucial to counter-hold the Torx socket during this tightening process to ensure proper installation. This procedure addresses the 2024 BMW X3 tension strut nut issue.

Required Parts

The specific part required for this repair is:

  • Part Number: 07 14 6 875 114
  • Description: Hexagon nut with collar
  • Quantity: 1

Claim Information

Reimbursement for this action will be processed via normal claim entry. The applicable work package information and the required part number must be used. The repair code for this action is 0031190200.

Two labor operation codes are available depending on the vehicle's status:

  • Work Package #1 (Completion before first vehicle delivery or if vehicle is already in workshop):

    • Labor Operation: 00 76 889
    • Description: Replacing the tension strut bolting (Affected side)
    • Labor Allowance: 3 FRU
  • Work Package #2 (Vehicle arrives at service center and this action shows open as main work):

    • Labor Operation: 00 76 256
    • Description: Replacing the tension strut bolting (Affected side)
    • Labor Allowance: 5 FRU

Only one of these flat rate labor operation codes can be used for claim submission and reimbursement. Technicians should reference the SIB number and the work package number in their RO notes and claim comments (e.g., B31 06 24 WP 1).

What Owners Should Do

If you own a 2024 BMW X3 or X4 produced within the specified dates, your vehicle may be subject to this delivery stop. While BMW is not explicitly notifying consumers for delivery stops, dealers are aware of the issue. Contact your authorized BMW dealer to determine if your vehicle is affected by SIB 31 06 24 and to schedule the necessary repair. The repair will be performed free of charge.
