Vehicles requiring this campaign will show an "Open" status in BMW's internal systems such as AIR, AWP, Campaign Summary, or Warranty Vehicle Inquiry. Dealers are advised to check their inventory promptly using Inventory Campaign Details (ICD) under ROSS.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may eventually notice "Metallic" noises. This symptom indicates a potential problem with the tension strut assembly.

Cause of the Issue

The root cause of this delivery stop is that the tension strut was not properly secured to the swivel bearing during vehicle assembly. This deviation from manufacturing instructions can lead to the nut loosening over time.

Correction

The required correction involves replacing the affected hexagon nut on the swivel bearing. This ensures the tension strut is securely fastened according to BMW's specifications.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair procedure, detailed in BMW Service Information Bulletin SIB 31 06 24, involves replacing the hexagon nut on the tension strut. Technicians should refer to REP31 12 050, specifically Step 5, diagram 4, for instructions on removing and installing the left or right tension strut.

The process includes removing the existing hexagon nut (1) and replacing it with a new one. The new nut must be tightened to specific torque values: a joining torque of 100 Nm followed by an additional 90-degree angle of rotation for the M16 nut. It is crucial to counter-hold the Torx socket during this tightening process to ensure proper installation. This procedure addresses the 2024 BMW X3 tension strut nut issue.
