Repair Procedure Summary

Technicians will first determine the vehicle's current I-level using BMW's Aftersales Workplace (AWP) or AIR applications. The goal is to program the vehicle to I-level 24-03-540 or higher, which corresponds to RSU software version 03/2024.40 or higher.

Remote Software Update (RSU) Procedure:

1. Check RSU Availability: The technician will check the available RSU version in the vehicle's System Settings app. The display may show messages like "Upgrade 03/2023.90 to 07/2023.14", "READY TO INSTALL", "Preparations completed.", and "Installation only when stationary. See Owner's Handbook for more information."
2. Initiate Installation: If the RSU software version to be installed is 03/2024.40 or higher, the RSU installation will be started via the Central Information Display (CID).
3. Verification: After approximately 30 minutes, the technician will verify that the RSU installation was successful and that software version 03/2024.40 or higher has been installed.

ISTA Programming Procedure: If the RSU software is not available or is a version lower than 03/2024.40, the vehicle will be updated using ISTA. This involves:

1. Connecting Equipment: A BMW-approved battery charger (referencing SIB 04 23 10) and the ISTA 4 programming system will be connected to the vehicle.
2. Measures Plan: The technician will determine, accept, and fully work through the measures plan, which includes programming, encoding, and enabling control units.
3. Rework and Testing: Any rework items will be addressed, followed by a vehicle test and deletion of any fault memory. ISTA automatically reprograms and codes all programmable control modules to the latest software.

• Uninstalled RSU Software: "It must be checked whether the customer has already downloaded the required RSU software into the vehicle but has NOT YET installed it." In such cases, programming must proceed via RSU. If the RSU update is not available or is lower than version 03/2024.40, the ISTA procedure must be followed.
• Battery Charger Requirement: During ISTA programming, a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply must always be connected to the vehicle to prevent issues.

• 00 76 065: Programming and encoding in conjunction with another campaign (1 FRU).
• 00 76 172: Remote Software Upgrade performed (RSU status: Ready to be installed) (3 FRU).
