I purchased a 2021 Ram 1500 North Edition (VIN: [XXX]) on XXX. As of last week, I noticed fluid leaking from under the engine compartment of the truck. I crawled under the truck and found that this five-year old truck has an oil pan that has rusted and rotted on the bottom and side leading to a leak of motor oil. I searched this online and found that this is a common issue amongst this model in this time frame and that it can cause a "catastrophic" loss of oil pressue while driving. I checked recalls and technical service bulletins and found no mention of this issue. Upon speaking with the service department of Hume's Chrysler, Jeep Dodge, and Ram of Waterford, PA, I was informed that they have seen this issue and that it is not covered by any warranty or recall because it's always caused by rust. This was only noticed because my wife's vehicle is in the shop and I parked in the garage causing me to notice it on the garage floor. My truck is normally parked in our gravel driveway and the oil leak went unnoticed. The truck was down approximately one-quart of oil when this was noticed. Had this not been noticed when it was, I fear that this issue could have caused an incident on the highway while the engine oil pressure was increased. The vehicle is a 2017 Ram 1500 Big Horn EcoDiesel 4x4 that I bought new in 2018. The backup camera has been a constant intermittent problem since the second year of ownership. It will go dark, have a green screen, or display scrambled lines. The camera has been replaced by the local Ram dealer (Mullahey Jeep/Dodge/Ram in Paso Robles, CA) at least once under warranty, but the problem recurred. It has been there at other times for the issue, but the problem had rectified itself by the time I got it there. After researching this on the internet the problem appears to be in the backup camera wiring harness in the tailgate, possibly in the electrical connectors. Many people complain about the issue on various forums, and there are quite a few videos on You Tube with homegrown fixes which I have tried, but they are a temporary at best. The best temporary remedy I have found is to open and then slam the tailgate shut. The problem appears to be quite common. I informed the dealer about the wiring harness possibly being the source of the problem the last time I brought it in a few years ago, but they seemed to ignore my advice. I know that there have been safety recalls of RAM pickups for backup camera issues from model years 2019 onwards, so why not other affected years? The problem most recently recurred today as I was backing out of my driveway. It has occurred numerous times over the years. RAM appears to have no permanent fix for this safety hazard. Luckily, I have not yet had an accident, but no one should have to wait for an accident, injury, or a fatality to order a recall. I hope my complaint does not fall on deaf ears as it has with RAM. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel suddenly became difficult to steer in either direction. The power steering warning light illuminated. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 16V167000 (Steering). The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired because the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,500.

2016 RAM 1500 pickup truck has several warning to include check engine light, ABS light, traction control light, ABS Brake service require, 4x4 service required, electronic throttle control and brake light comes on and vehicle no longer has anti-lock brake or traction control capability. Issue has been on going for several months with numerous calls to dealer for the replacement of the ABS control module who eventually transferred me to RAM corporate for further escalation of the issue of no parts in system to fix problem. I have called additional dealers in New York, Virginia, Florida and they have all told me that they have outstanding orders in the 30+ range for vehicles with the same issue. Based on what I have found online and in discussions with those dealerships, if you extrapolate those numbers over more then 4,700 Ram or Dodge dealerships in the United states, there are potentially over 100,000 RAM 1500's on the roads today that have the potential of a major Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) issue or failure. From what I found out from talking with dealerships and Ram Corporate, they have not been addressing the issue very much in regards to having replacement parts for a issue they have know about for years. In fact, RAM/Dodge have had issues with there RAM 2500/3500 series where FCA issued a recall for certain 2017–2018 Ram 2500/3500 trucks (NHTSA campaign #24V896000, recall #C4B). I have a order number and FCA case number is that is required for additional information. My issues have been ongoing for approximately 6-7 months and ended on 31 May 2026 when all the lights started flashing and then the vehicle would not move, but would run. Electronic system locked it from going in gear.

The vehicle has experienced repeated failures involving the gear shifter system, electrical system, battery system, and vehicle drive mode controls. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The most serious incident occurred when the vehicle unexpectedly entered Off-Road mode without any driver input while the truck was in motion at low speed. I did not intentionally activate Off-Road mode. The vehicle immediately became difficult to maneuver and did not respond normally. Steering and vehicle behavior changed unexpectedly, requiring repeated forward and reverse movements to safely position the truck. I was concerned about losing control of the vehicle. Had this occurred at highway speeds or in traffic, it could have resulted in a crash, injury, or property damage. In addition to this incident, the vehicle has experienced multiple gear shifter failures that have rendered the truck undrivable on numerous occasions. The truck has been returned to the dealership multiple times for diagnosis and repair of the shifter system. The vehicle has also experienced battery-related failures requiring roadside assistance on two occasions and a tow to a dealership. The problems have been reproduced through repeated occurrences requiring dealership service. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized Ram dealerships on multiple occasions and repair attempts have been performed. The manufacturer, Stellantis/Ram, has also been notified through a customer assistance case. I do not recall receiving any warning that the vehicle would unexpectedly enter Off-Road mode prior to the incident. However, the vehicle has displayed various warning messages and symptoms associated with prior shifter and battery failures. Exact warning messages are unknown. The vehicle has required multiple repair attempts for safety-related issues and has been out of service for extended periods. I am concerned that the unexpected activation of Off-Road and other issues could result in accidents

While driving and coming to a complete stop at a red traffic light, the service brakes suddenly failed to hold the vehicle. With the brake pedal fully depressed, the vehicle unexpectedly began creeping forward into traffic. To prevent a collision with the vehicle ahead, I had to manually engage the electronic parking brake to force the vehicle to a stop. An adult passenger witnessed the failure. The vehicle was towed to Nyle Maxwell RAM in Austin, TX. The dealership stated no computer diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were present and they could not replicate the issue on a short test drive, releasing the vehicle back to me completely unrepaired. This is a severe, intermittent hydraulic or electronic braking failure that poses an immediate crash hazard.

My electronic steering system is acting up, sometimes it is very hard to steer the truck, there are no lights on or warnings. I understand that a lot of ram 1500 trucks have this same safety issue!

In December 2023 my truck was diagnosed with a faulty Anti-lock brake module. The Ram dealer that diagnosed my truck was unable to source a new anti-lock brake module, but told me, "We're not allowed to tell you this, but it will always have brakes". My anti-lock brakes and traction control have been disabled for 2.5 years. The part I need is supposedly under "Engineer Review" and is still not available. In March 2026 I experienced a number of electrical issues and took my truck to a different Ram dealer. Their diagnosis indicated my ABS module has degraded further and has shorted the CAN bus. This disables the transmission shifter, electronic throttle control, electrical power steering, speedometer, and 4wd system. These were all disabled while traveling at 65 MPH on the interstate. Currently, my truck is immobile and is at a dealer awaiting an Anti-lock brake module. The part has been backordered. I'm happy to pay the repair costs the get my truck back. I'm writing because of the huge safety concern of being forced to drive with a faulty Anti-lock braking system due to a lack of available parts (2.5 years! and counting). Especially when it can disable the transmission shifter, throttle control, and electrical power steering while driving.

EPS steering rack stopped working. It began as an intermittent problem, with the power steering getting stiff on occasion, it quickly progressed to a regular problem. Makes the truck difficult to steer while driving slowly, especially in parking lots which makes it hard to safely maneuver. It started a few months ago, and got worse in the past 3-4 weeks. The truck has 145k miles, almost all highway commuting. I have not gotten it fixed yet, I will likely pull the rack myself as it’s out of warranty. Thankfully I know how to work on cars, but it’s still going to be a $1500 repair. Knowing that there’s NTSA investigation going on for this and a class action lawsuit, I wanted to make sure I reported my problem to help with understanding the scale of this flaw.

- #11742436June 6, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
The ABS brake module failed approximately 11 months ago. John Jones Chrysler confirmed this as the problem, and ordered a new part. Dash brake light, traction control light, and ABS light are lit on dash panel. Also cruise control quit working, because of this module. The dealer refunded my money saying parts to repair are unavailable. I’m assuming a failed ABS module is a definite safety problem. This seems to be a common problem with these vehicles.
