STEERING
On or about [XXX], I was traveling on [XXX] in Thomasville GA. As I turned left onto [XXX} The steering wheel suddenly, without notice, locked left a spun right to 12 o'clock,, straight alignment which caused my left risk to to snap and I believe would have been broken if I had not let go of the steering wheel. This caused the vehicle to veer into the left lane slightly across the center lane where oncoming traffic deemed it necessary to veer right to curbside to prevent a collision. Although almost impossible to steer, I managed to turn it around and get it back into my yard which is approximately 800 feet . The steering remained almost impossible to steer after a few checks and then and now it is permanently locked. There were at the time of incident, no warning lights. There after: the service power steering light appears. Thomasville Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram advised that the EPS rack and pinion is the cause and has to be replaced. I contacted Chrysler Customer service and spoke to customer service representative Ian who advised a recall for this issue is forthcoming and he allegedly tried to assist with this repair. However other customer service representatives deny Ian's statement to me and even claim that he does not work there. The claim number he provided to me is case #[XXX]. SERVICE BRAKES, SUSPENSION
I was driving on a blacktop road doing 60mph when I topped a hill and suddenly the road surface changed to mud and deep puddle of water , as I hit my brakes all the ABS BRAKE AND ANTI SKID LIGHTS on my dash lite up and the tires locked up and i slide almost sideways into a massive puddle of water at a very dangerous angle. The force of it was very difficult to steer my truck back straight to miss the bridge rails that was just yards ahead. Now the dodge dealership tells me the ABS BRAKE CONTROL MUDULE is under engineering review and can't be replaced because it's on back order. So for my safety I've parked it and bought a chevy . Will sell dodge when fixed if part recalled to make dodge fix it please.

SERVICE BRAKES, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
ABC Control Module - The warning lights that are on in the Dashboard are the ABS Light, Traction Control Light and the Brake Light. When these lights came on, I took it to the Ram Dealership, and they told me that it was the ABS Control Module that was bad and needed replaced. The lights stay on all of the time, so I do not have any ABS Braking, Tractor Control or Cruise Control. Not having the ABS Braking or the Cruise Control make it very dangerous to stop or control the Truck with bad road conditions. The Dealership told me that the part that is needed is on an Enginering Hold and that they cannot order the part. The Truck was taken into the Dealership in October of 2024. They are not giving me any solutions to the problem, and I am forced to drive an unsafe vehicle until Ram takes the parts off of Enginering Hold. I am not getting any help from Ram on this issue, and they do not seem to care about my Safety. The Dealership that my truck was at is Shively Motors in Shippensburg PA

I am reporting a defective tone wheel on my 2015 RAM 1500 Pickup equipped with a 3.0L engine ("RAM") while accelerating into congested rush hour Interstate traffic. The RAM experienced an unexpected significant loss of power due to loss of crankshaft position. Subsequent inspection by the Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership confirmed that the RAM suffered a loss of crankshaft position due to a missing section of the magnetic material attached to the tone wheel and that as many as 14 cracks in the magnetic material are visible. For an undisclosed reason, FCA US did not include the RAM in Important Safety Recall W68/NHTSA 20V-475 (replacement of defective tone wheel) but rather kicked the can down the road and reprogrammed the software in the Powertrain Control Module under Safety Recall W58/NHTSA 20V-475. Based on material evidence of the failed tone wheel, it is clear that the RAM should have been included in the tone wheel replacement recall. FCA US refuses to cover the replacement of the defective tone wheel under Recall W68/NHTSA 20V-475 and extend the tone wheel warranty under FCA US Extended Warranty Letter X94. I am hopeful that NHTSA will compel FCA US aka Stellantis to include the vehicle(s) excluded from Recall W68/NHTSA 20V-475 and reimburse the owner(s) the cost(s) associated with the replacement of the defective tone wheel under Letter X94.

ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after driving 35-45 MPH, the contact approached a stop sign, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart after pushing the Push-to-Start button. The traction control warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the key fob not recognized message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the failure was due to the relay module and PCM and referred the contact to the local dealer. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the PCM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, opened a case, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

STEERING
Steering started getting very tight and wheel not returning properly to center. I actually have to pull the wheel back to go straight. Truck will drift in a lane from right to left however very tight steering makes it hard to correct easily. According to dealership these trucks have a common problem with the electronic rack and pinion and it needs to be replaced.

ENGINE
On 02/27/2025 my wife drove the 2021 RAM 1500 Limited Diesel truck and the engine certainly stopped running. It happened once around 2:10PM on the freeway I-5 Southbound near exit 189 in WA State. She was on the most inboard lane to prepare to take exit 189 with speed about 45-50 MPH. She was able to pull over to a safe location before the truck had completely stopped. Then she was able to start the engine and go again after 5-10 minutes. She drove for about 4 miles to her work place then the engine certainly stopped running again as soon as she pulled into the clinic parking lot around 2:30PM.

On 2/20/25 I was driving making a turn it was hard to turn I checked to power steering fluid and it was fine. I checked for any leaks there was none. Then I took it to the mechanic and they said I need a new Steering Gear Assembly ( around $4,000) 🤦‍♀️ I see there are a lot of other people having the same problems with the Ram1500.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH and following a curve to the right, the steering wheel was very difficult to turn. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but occurred at various speeds while turning to the right or the left. The contact researched online and became aware that there were many reports of intermittent failures of the power steering assist with similar vehicles. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 161,835.

The contact owns a 2021 Ram 1500. The contact stated while reversing approximately 3 MPH into a parking space, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized, and all four wheels locked up. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer who diagnosed and determined that the radio frequency module had been short circuited by water that had entered the vehicle either from the rear sliding window or the rear brake light assembly located at the rear and on top of the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,070.

I have read on line that there was a study being done by NHTSA (2003) about a possible recall for this issue. Can you tell me the results of the findings? Has the study been completed?

I took my vehicle in for an unrelated issue, a wheel speed sensor that was throwing codes. When I brought it in they advised me about a serious engine oil leak. This issue is too fold. . As far as I'm concerned this should have been a recall due to its seriousness. The housing for the oil filter is made of plastic mounted on the engine block. I live in Buffalo New York, where we were experiencing Sub-Zero to zero temperatures it is not unlike putting a hot glass in cold water it cracks, also if it is tightened too much it can also crack, which shortly before this incident I did have it in for an oil change and tire rotation, suggestion would be to perhaps make the part out of aluminum. This could have caused a serious issue with oil splashing back on the rear tires causing a spin out, possible accident, possible injury or worse. Mopar has known about this as far as I can tell from my research as far back as 2013 on the 3.2 and 3.6 Pentastar in their Jeep products in fact there was a 2012 Jeep in for service with the same problem. Apparently this has continued on the same engine in Ram also. I was told by the service people at Joe Cecconi Chrysler in Niagara Falls New York that it was nothing that I did wrong. I certainly believe that since they knew about this for such a long time that they should reimburse at least in part, if not in total of that related service up to including other parts related to this issue and the oil. I am further concerned about this being a continuing issue.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The service power steering warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the electronic power steering control module. The contact was informed that entire steering system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 145,000.

The E to alternator quit rear bearing bad was told that the part was on backorder. It’ll be 68 months for part to come in. We need to have a better description on what bearings they use for the alternator.
