STEERING
I was driving my truck and my power steering went out. I had very little steering and almost ran into a cement wall. My steering wheel will barely turn. I got it to a mechanic, and I was told I need an entire new steering rack. Part number 68628858AA. I had zero notification that this was going to happen. It was driving fine. This is almost $4000 to fix. I only have 68,000 miles on my truck. This part needs to be recalled on 2014 Rams. After some research there are several cases of this exact issue. It won't let me download my receipts

SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The ABS module is malfunctioning; it is an internal electronic fault that has been diagnosed by the dealership. This is leading to a lack of cruise control, excessive drain on the battery resulting in constant recharging, and a red brake light to be illuminated, which results in immediate failed inspection of the vehicle in Virginia. There is an existing recall on 2019 and 2021-2024 Dodge Rams; however, there is a national shortage of the part and dealerships will not install used modules. Currently there is no solution offered by Dodge other than to continue charging the battery and to pay approximately $700 for the part that has been "Under Review" for at least 8 months. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership which has stated over 160 people have requested the part be ordered at this one location. Their recommendation was to disconnect the battery every night. This is not a solution.

From the first oil change forward, I have reported an intermittent electronic problem with the display screen. The screen would fail to activate. None of the functions of the push buttons below the screen which control the widgets’ on the screen would function. The air control for heater and defroster being the main safety issue.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Constantly getting warnings that Auto emergecy braking, blind spot monitoring, and forward collision is disabled and needs service. It flashes on and off on the dash at inconsistent rates and appears to be bad wiring connections or faulty equipment. Been to dealer numerous times and still not fixed. I feel like these systems are going to fail me and could cause a potential safety concern.

The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
When using reverse, the image stays on the screen in reverse for sometime. also, screen stays a solid color in black or blue at times not allowing any controls on the screen when attempting. Screen will sometimes freeze and reset sometime after driving. radio and or screen stays on for an extended period of time after turning vehicle off leaving vehicle and locking doors still allowing radio/screen to continue in operation.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:ABS WARNING LIGHT
The ABS control module failed on my 2014 Ram 1500 and is no longer available from Mopar. The part (68228991AD) is discontinued or on indefinite backorder. This disables a federally required safety system (ABS and electronic stability control). Dealerships will not install used parts, and there is no OEM solution. This renders the vehicle unsafe to operate and poses a risk to me and others on the road. Dodge/Stellantis needs to provide a solution or replacement. I’m requesting NHTSA investigation and recall if necessary.

The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while reversing, the rearview camera image was blue, and the message "Camera Unavailable" was displayed. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle made abnormal knocking sounds and stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure persisted. The contact was able to pull into a gas station and parked the vehicle. A mechanic informed the contact that the sound was coming from the engine; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

ENGINE
The engine on this vehicle has failed, it has 51,000 miles on it and involved in a class action lawsuit that closed in 2022. This truck was bought in 2023 with dealership not disclosing all of the failures in the vehicle. It is at a local shop requiring $16,000 worth of engine repair and we are demanding from Dodge to have help with repairs. We had and have a record of regular maintenance completed on this vehicle and is in immaculate condition.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the ABS light was illuminated. The contact stated that the braking distance was extended while depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, the traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and it was determined that the control module had failed and needed to be repaired. The contact inquired if the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V287000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and the dealer confirmed the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V287000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC) nor covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the parking brake and check engine warning lights illuminated. The messages "ABS Unavailable" and "Traction Control Unavailable" were displayed. Additionally, the speedometer was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced, but the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. Driving under normal conditions, truck had been running perfectly for the 3 months I owned it. Coming down a hill on the freeway, lights started blinking on the dash, then making a knocking noise, lost pressure (all control) of gas pedal, then white smoke from drivers side, then grey smoke, then completely engulfed in flames within 5 minutes of dash blinking. Complete loss of engine bay

ABS light came on a long time ago and I have been unable to get it repaired due to availability of the part and demand due to so many owners having an issue with this ABS module failing. This is not a wear and tear part, this module should not have failed when it did. I see there have been recalls on other Ram trucks and 2016 has been left out. This issues is present for so many owners and is a safety issue.

The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), and the vehicle was taken to a local dealer and the vehicle was repaired under the recall; however, the failure occurred, and tone wheel became delaminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the vehicle had already received the one-time free repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.

Subject: Ongoing Power Steering Malfunction – Safety Concern I am writing to report a recurring and now potentially permanent issue with the power steering system in my vehicle. The problem began approximately 2 to 2.5 years ago. Initially, it was intermittent — the power steering would occasionally fail at low speeds, then resume normal operation. During these incidents, the dashboard would display a warning message: “Service Power Steering.” Over time, the issue has become more frequent, and in some cases, the failure occurs immediately upon startup, before the vehicle has even been driven. I first brought the vehicle to a local repair shop, where I was advised that the power steering unit might need to be replaced. They also mentioned that the problem could be related to a known defect involving contaminated components. However, after checking the serial number, I confirmed that my vehicle is not included in the current recall for this make and model. Next, I took the vehicle to a Ram Chrysler dealership. They were unable to replicate the issue during their inspection and advised me to bring the vehicle back on a tow truck if the problem occurred again. Since then, the issue has returned multiple times. I was previously able to temporarily clear the fault by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminals, but that method is no longer effective. The failure now appears to be persistent and ongoing. This is a serious safety concern. A sudden loss of power steering — whether at startup, low speeds, or while driving — poses a significant risk to both myself and others on the road. I plan to return to the dealership for further diagnostics, but I believe this issue deserves broader investigation and may warrant an expansion of the current recall. Fuel level sensor failed. Truck will randomly display false fuel levels. This causes the fuel level to be unknown leading the potential of running out gas and being stranded. Dealer says fuel pump needs replaced and is in the process of doing so. Dealer also stated this is a common issue on the Ram trucks.

STEERING
Power steering will turn off randomly while driving. It makes it very hard to turn and is extremely dangerous to drive. It is a safety hazard for me, my family, and anybody on the road nearby. The problem has happened multiple times with no warning. The power steering will work fine for a period of time but randomly cut off. Vehicle was brought to a dealer but they are unable to replicate the issue while the steering is working. Upon further research, this seems to be an issue with many trucks of this make and model. The part to replace it (electronic power steering assembly) is on back order or out of stock due to so many of these trucks having this issue. Again this is extremely dangerous and deserves a recall at minimum.

There is a current recall for ram 1500s with faults in their Abs systems, which causes their ECS system to disable itself. My 2017 vehicle has been experiencing this issue since purchase in 2019. I have tried to get ram dealerships to diagnose this issue several times, but each time they say that they cannot recreate the fault. My goal in filling this report is to get my vehicle added to this recall.
