There was a fuel smell in the cabin of the car. Gar is parked in an enclosed garage. There was a major risk of fire to the car and the house. There were no warning signs! Problem has been confirmed and repaired at owners expense.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The key in the electronic ignition switch is not recognized causing the car to suddenly throw itself into park while the vehicle is still in motion, at speeds as high as 6 mph, per service bulletin #LI54.25-P-056472. The issue is intermittent and unpredictable and puts the driver at great risk of an accident because the car stops violently and without warning to the cars behind. The car can be put back into Drive and as soon as you start driving again, it will immediately throw itself back into park, which sometimes happens over and over again. This has put me in the position of having entered an intersection only to have my car stop in the middle of the intersection. I've been nearly hit from behind or side several times due to the unexpected and sudden stop my car made when this happened. Despite reporting the TSB to the Mercedes dealership, they would not cover the out of warranty repair because they said it's "only a service bulletin and not a safety recall." This is VERY CLEARLY a safety issue and there are hundreds if not thousands of drivers and cars affected based on internet searches of MB and auto forums.

ENGINE
The crankshaft pulley is a two piece item. When excessive pressure is on it the pieces separate and disable the car. Upon replacing the belt or belt tensioner more pressure is exerted on the crankshaft pulley. Thus it fails and again disables the vehicle. When doing either of the replacement tasks Mercedes fails to check this or mention it to customers. Thus months later it fails and previous belt replacement of belt tensioner replacement has to be done again. This creates a dual expense without fixing the issue the first time. Expense is in the thousands.

Additionally, on several occasions, the door closed independently. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was awaiting a callback. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Mercedes-Benz E300. The contact stated while attempting to move the gear shifter from neutral to reverse or to drive, the gear shifter failed to move. The gear shifter returned to the neutral position. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the power train control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and the contact was informed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V078000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

A Summary of the May 9, 2021, event follows: 6:30 a.m: I Woke up, put on gym clothes and shoes and drove to gym (1 mile from home). 7:01:40 a.m. Turned into the gym parking lot and slowly inched into a parking space. (my Mercedes rides low in the front so I pull in slowly so the block will not scrape my bumper). 7:02:00 a.m. As I pull slowly into the parking space the car stalls and the engine begins revving very loud. I firmly press my right foot (foot was already on the brake as I was inching into the space) on the brake because the car is still making that revving sound. 7:02:15 a.m. The car is at a complete stop for some time. The engine begins revving even louder and surges forward (foot was still on the brake) four feet. The car hits the brick gym building and comes to a standstill. I turn off the engine and sit there stunned. ( A witness signed a statement and said "car was at a complete stop for some time...thought driver would open her door and get out but then the car suddenly surged forward and hit the building"). After getting out of my car and inspecting the wrecked car, I notice the gas cap is open and I shut it. The police show up, and say "no police report" will be made. I have some injuries (concussion, bruises over full torso and legs) but I treat patients with TBIs so self-diagnosed and treated my injuries without seeking additional medical attention. On May 9, 2021, I call CSAA and report the accident. After several conversations with CSAA Claims Advisor Karl Arnold, it appears the car frame is damaged, and repair costs exceed value of car. The building had no damage. I then attempted to access relevant data on the EDR and was misled by the Mercedes Fairfield dealership, Service Unit. I was told by Josh “the data is irretrievable, and you can’t get it”. I asked why would Congress pass the EDR in to law making EDRs mandatory and data belongs to owner, if it is not retrievable? ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
1. Backup camera will periodically display a blank screen when shifted into reverse. System has to be shutdown and restarted to get the camera to work again. Tends to happen on rainy days when camera most needed. No accident has occurred as a result to date. Date of last occurrence is an approximation. 2. Distronic Plus system (Adaptive cruise) will disengage unexpectedly when coming to a stop in traffic or if in stop and go traffic. The system beeps once and a red light flashes, but this is easily missed if radio is playing or driver is distracted. This has almost caused several roll forward rear-end collisions, prevented only by quick driver intervention. Neither issue has been addressed with the dealer since the vehicle is out of warranty.

1.BOTH FRONT SEATS BECOME EXTREMELY HOT AFTER 1-2 HOURS OF DRIVING, EVEN WITH COLD SEAT MODE ON. METAL BECOMES SO HOT UNDERNEATH SEAT, ALMOST COULD BURN HAND BY TOUCHING METAL PARTS. 2.STEERING WHEEL ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS LOOSENS AND STARTS RAPIDLY MOVING RIGHT AND LEFT PROMPTING ALERT ASSIST WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT FREEWAY SPEED WITHOUT ME DOING THIS OR NO LANES ARE CROSSED , IT FEELS LIKE CAR IS REMOTELY CONTROLLED. 3.CAR TRIES TO ACCELERATE AS I AM ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT IN THE CITY PRODUCING SEVERE TRANSMISSION JERKS. 4. ENGINE TURNS OFF AND ON WITHOUT ME DOING IT ( IT IS NOT ECO, IT ACTUALLY COMPLETELY TURNS OFF AND ON). IT FEELS LIKE IT IS DONE REMOTELY. 5.SURROUND SENSORS CAUSE WARNING WITH NO DANGER PRESENT WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY OR MOVING AROUND PARKING LOT. 6. SEVERE TRANSMISSION JERKS WHILE CRUISING SMOOTHLY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS ON FREEWAY. 7. REGULAR ILLEGAL ENTRIES IN MY LOCKED CAR IN MULTIPLE STATES WHILE TRAVELING. SEEMS LIKE SOMEONE HAS REMOTE ACCESS TO MY CAR. TRIED TO ADDRESS WITH MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS IN TWO STATES, NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. I WAS TOLD NOTHING CAN BE DONE. I TOOK CAR TO ARROWHEAD MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP FOR ALL THESE ISSUE. THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE NOR REPRODUCE PROBLEM. ON HOT SEAT ISSUE I WAS LIED ABOUT DRIVING CAR FOR TWO HOURS AS ODOMETER READ 30 MILES SINCE REFUELING.

I NOTICED THE SMELL OF GAS IN THE GARAGE WHENEVER THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE MERCEDES DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS LEAKING GAS. THE VEHICLE HAS A METAL GAS TANK AND THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS BUILT INTO THE GAS TANK AND THEREFORE THE ENTIRE GAS TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $4209.65.

WHEELS, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
THE RIGHT SIDE BLIND ASSIST TURNS ON WHEN MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND ALSO GIVES FALSE WARNING LIGHT AND SOUND WHEN THERE'S NO CAR. THE RUN FLAT TIRES BLEW OUT AND DIDN'T WORK. THERE'S NO SPARE TIRE SO I CALLED MB SOS. I HAD TO CALL THEM 4 TIMES TO GET THEM TO SEND THE TOWING TRUCK. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 45 MINUTES BUT IT TOOK OVER 2.5 HOURS IN THE DESERT SUN OUTSIDE OF LAS VEGAS.

MY 2012 MERCEDES E350 HAS OIL CONTAMINATION OF THE WIRING HARNESS. THE OIL HAS ALSO DAMAGED OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT INCLUDING OXYGEN SENSORS; PROBES AND ECU(COMPUTER) THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE DAMAGE. MERCEDES-BENZ HAD HAD RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST BUT THE RECALL DID NOT EXTEND TO THE 2012 MODEL YEAR. THEY NEED TO DO ANOTHER RECALL FOR THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD, AS THE CAR COULD STALL IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
WHEN DRIVING ON AN OPEN 2 LANE COUNTY ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING ENGAGED AND FULLY STOPPED THE CAR FOR NO REASON. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ROAD, I DID NOT HAVE CRUISE CONTROL ON. THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED AND BEEPED. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND, SO THANKFULLY I WAS NOT REAR ENDED, BUT THERE WERE NO IMPEDIMENTS IN THE ROAD TO CAUSE A BRAKING EVENT.

MY 2011 E350 SOFT CONVERTIBLE TOP IS LEAKING HYDRAULIC FLUID FROM THE PISTONS AND THE FLEXIBLE TUBING RUNNING THROUGH THE SOFT TOP ROOF (DRIVERS SIDE) TO THE LOCKING MECHANISM WHICH SECURES IT TO THE WINDSHIELD IS DEVELOPING A SERIOUS KINK THAT WILL LIKELY FAIL SOON AND LEAK FLUID INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. DEFINITELY A POOR DESIGN AS THE LINES DO NOT HAVE A FLEX JOINT AT THE HINGE POINT TO ALLOW FOR REPEATED BENDING DURING OPERATION OF THE TOP. I BELIEVE IT TO BE A BAD DESIGN / PREMATURE FAILURE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM PAID FOR MY MERCEDES BENZ.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON 12/12/2021 AND TWO WEEKS AFTER THAT, THE CAR HAD WARNING MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD "COOLANT TOO HOT, STOP THE VEHICLE" ON THE HIGHWAY -NJ TUNPIKE. IT STARTED SLOWING DOWN ON ITS OWN TO BELOW 20MPH, NEARLY KILLED ME WHILE I TRIED TO PULL IT OVER. THEN THE DEALER SERVICE SAID IT HAD DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP. THEN LAST WEEK 4/13/21 - 4 MONTH,ABOUT 2800 MILEGE ON IT, IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL., JUMP START DIDN'T EVEN WORK. SO I WAS STRANDED AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. IT GOT TOWED AND THEY SAID IT HAD DEFECTIVE BATTERY. SO HOW MANY DEFECTIVE PARTS THIS CAR HAS. IT WILL KEEP BREAKING DOWN AND THREATEN MY LIFE ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE I COMMUTE EVERY DAY IN THE NIGHT TIME. THEY SHOULD TAKE THIS CAR BACK AND REPLACE BUT THE DEALER REFUSED BECAUSE IT HAD PROBLEMS ON DIFFERENT PARTS AND FIXED. BUT THIS VEHICLE IS PIECE OF JUNK AND A RISK TO NOT ONLY MY LIFE BUT ALSO O THER DRIVERS ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT DOES THINGS ON ITS OWN WAY, I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR AT ALL.
