- #11662824May 23, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I am submitting this complaint regarding serious and repeated electronic failures in my 2023 Mercedes-Benz E 450 that pose a significant safety risk to myself and other drivers on the road. The vehicle has experienced complete dashboard failures on multiple occasions, including the loss of speedometer, fuel gauge, and gear shift indicators. Most critically, the vehicle recently shut down while in motion, displaying a “malfunction” warning and disabling the electronic steering system. I was unable to maneuver the vehicle off the road, creating an extremely dangerous situation. This vehicle has been brought to the dealership three or more times for the same issue, with no permanent resolution. I believe this constitutes a serious safety defect. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter as a potential recall issue.

Panoramic Sunroof bonding and bolts loose causing constant horrific cracking/clanking sounds due to shifting of glass. Possible frame and airbag damage, possible glass falling, possible injury/accident/death. Can cause issues with airbags deploying and water leaks. Mercedes mechanic said it's the worst case/noise he has heard in any Mercedes. Same make/year/model has been recalled in other plants. Also, walnut trim has faded tremendously.

The contact stated that the transmission was not shifting above second gear. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission control module (TCM) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V078000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

- #11658594May 2, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, POWER TRAIN
The primary failure involved the electrical system and speed control, which posed a significant safety risk to myself and other drivers. The issue first presented itself when I noticed intermittent warning lights and error messages flashing on the dashboard, including indicators for the electronic stability program (ESP), steering assist, and lane tracking features. These malfunctions created erratic driving conditions, including unexpected acceleration delays and inconsistent cruise control behavior. Approximately one week before the vehicle was repossessed, I reported the issue to the dealership and requested inspection. However, I was not provided a definitive diagnosis or service record confirming evaluation or remediation. The vehicle was subsequently remotely disabled without proper notice or opportunity to repair, placing me at risk by stranding me in an unsafe location without functional transportation. This vehicle may have also been equipped with over-the-air control features or aftermarket immobilizers unknown to me at the time of financing. To date, I have not been able to inspect the system because the vehicle was taken from my possession under a disputed contract. I believe the problem has not been properly addressed or documented by Mercedes-Benz, and the vehicle is not currently available for inspection as it remains in the control of the finance company. Prior to this incident, no physical warning lamps were persistent, though the vehicle intermittently displayed electronic system errors, especially during startup or inclement weather. This complaint is being submitted due to serious concerns about vehicle safety, electronic control vulnerabilities, and potential manufacturer negligence. I request that NHTSA initiate a review of the E-Class E450A systems involved in driver assistance, electrical integration, and potential remote immobilization tied to finance enforcement.

When using Map apps through CarPlay, I’ve noticed two consistent problems: Inaccurate Vehicle Speed: The carplay speedometor does not match the the actual speedometer of the vehicle, which seems always 1.6 times higher than the actual(seems to be the metric confusion from mph to kmh). GPS Drift: The location shown on the map is frequently ahead of my actual position, which causes navigation directions (especially turns and exits) to be slightly mistimed. However, when the speedometer is correct, the GPS drift issue would disappear automatically. So I assume that these two issues are correlated. These issues can be confusing and potentially unsafe while driving. I’ve tested other navigation apps on CarPlay and found they do exhibit the same behavior, so I suspect the issue may be general to Mercedes E300 and probably other vehicles. I did a bit of research and found it to be a common issue of Mercedes E300 2017. Please see attached link for the threads from MB forum. https://mbworld.org/forums/gls-class-x167/843643-wrong-speed-limit-detected.html Thank you for your assistance, and I look forward to your reply. Best regards

This vehicle, with 115,000 miles has been discovered to have had the brackets in the subframe for BOTH rear lateral arms rust through and are broken causing a $5,000 repair estimate. The mechanic who found this (42 years as a mechanic) said he has never seen anything like it. This is a car where I had to replace the transmission at 49,000 miles and the control unit at 62,000 miles (over $13,000 in repairs). I saw through AI search that this problem has been reported many times but has not prompted an investigation. This issue should NEVER happen and is a MAJOR SAFETY threat.

Mercedes had a recall for rusty subframe but the rear break lines are rusting out as well and it should be a recall just like the subframe. I have brake line leaking now and it will cost around 2500-3500 to fix per mercedes

Excessive corrosion on rear brake lines. I've never had to replace brake lines on car before. The cost is almost $5,000 out of pocket and I believe this due to low quality products used to manufacture the original brake lines. I believe there should be an investigation into the brake lines as there could be serious injury if they fail.
