In May of 2023, my house burnt down. We were in it at the time when the smoke detector went off. When I opened the door from to kitchen to the garage, I saw flames shooting up at the front of my car. The fire was so intense at that moment, I knew all we could do was flee the house. I grabbed my wife and we ran out the front door. You do not have a recall listed for my vehicle, but Hyundai lists two. The first one listed can potentially cause a fire. Both recall maintenance was performed on my car. I sincerely believe that the car was the cause of the fire. Since it had been sitting in my garage for approximately four hours, the engine wasn't hot. I had it regularly serviced at the local Hyundai dealership. There were multiple fire investigators, including one from Hyundai. Here is the recall information. The driver side door fails to open from the outside. I'm not sure if it is available for inspection, as I've tried to contact the Hyundai dealership I got it from, and they haven't gotten back to me. This is a safety issue because it causes me to have to walk around to the passenger side door and either climb over, or reach over and partially open the driver door then get back out and walk over to the other side again. I live in a big city and as a woman I don't always feel safe having to take extra time to get into my vehicle. It's also a safety issue because if something goes wrong, someone can't open the door to get to me. A dealer friend of a friend looked at the door and confirmed something is wrong with the latch cable, and also said that it would cost up to $1500 to repair. This is the only person who has inspected it so far. It looks like I'm not the only person who has had door issues with Tuscons which is why I'm here. There was no warning at all. I drove the vehicle to work with no incident and then when I left work I found I could not open the door anymore even after locking and unlocking a few times. This was back at the beginning of March 2024.

Hi, I am an owner of 4 Hyundai vehicles and all had the steering wheel coupler failed before 100,000 miles. 2 sonata and 1 Elantra coupler was replaced under the 100,000 miles extended warranty but my 2016 Tucson with 80,000 miles is not covered. All Hyundai and Kia vehicles have this problem. Why only some models are covered and not others? The problem is the same across the board. I think Hyundai should be compel to honor repairs on all models for this common steering wheel coupler problem and not on selected model.

The connecting rod bearing failed. The dealer has the car and has not provided me with detailed documentation as I have requested. I was traveling ~70 MPH on [XXX] in Maryland when the engine threw a rod. I could control the braking and steering, but had no ability to accelerate. I was able to magically go across 3 lanes of traffic and exit the highway to a safe resting place. I had the car towed to Porter Hyundai in Newark, DE. They inspected the engine and sent documentation to Hyundai. Prior to the event, no warning lamps were on. The "check engine" light came on as the incident was occurring. While driving, my vehicle suddenly lost all power and didn't respond to the accelerator. The "check engine" and "hybrid system failure" lights came on, jeopardizing my safety and that of other road users. The car overheats significantly, to the extent that the air conditioning only blows hot air. This situation forced me to pull over on the highway shoulder, creating an additional risk for everyone involved in traffic.

While driving our 2015 Hyundai Tucson on [XXX] outside of Sanford, Florida, [XXX], at 70mph, the car unexplainably lost all power and my husband had to veer into the right lane while avoiding traffic at high speeds, and pull onto the shoulder until the the car came to rest. This affected his safety, the cars in the right lane, the cars behind him, and his safety on the shoulder. When he tried to restart it, the engine light came on and he immediately drove home. The following day, we took it to our regular mechanic. After inspecting the vehicle, he told us our engine was completely “shot”. We called the Hyundai dealership in Daytona Beach, Florida. The engine light was on, so we paid to have it towed. The dealership called a couple of days later and after INSPECTION, stated the engine was seized, but it was under warranty. Later, we received a call saying it wasn’t under warranty because a KDSD “RECALL” was never completed. We had no idea what he was referring to, as we never received a RECALL notice regarding the KDSD. THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL ON A KSDS SYSTEM. ONLY A SERVICE CAMPAIGN THAT WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF. Therefore, the engine was a total loss and would not be replaced. THERE WAS NEVER A PRIOR INDICATION FROM ANY WARNING LIGHTS OR SYMPTOMS. Upon investigation, I learned that Hyundai was aware of this problem in 2018. Our vehicle was in for regular service on [XXX]. After reading many of the TSB Memos, Their Service Campaign began on [XXX]. We never received notice regarding this campaign. Nonetheless, as our car was in for service IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018, they should have made us aware, and performed the software update then and there. The software only warns the driver that there may be a problem. This update doesn’t improve THE ENGINE which is defective. It is abhorrent to me that they are still putting lives at risk. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ENGINE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 55

There's a known leak with oil in the engine, this was brought to the dealers attention and they said it was a known issue however no fixes were avaliable. While driving on the highway without warning I lost accelerator access. The car wouldn't go. The engine started knocking and would not propel forward. It was advised after diagnostics were done that two of my cylinders lost compression and therefore the engine was blown. They said this is a highly known issue with Hyundai Tucson 1.6T engines. I've lost money, time and work behind this ordeal.

My car randomly will not reverse; it's happened a few times, I was alone or with my 5 year old the first time, and next couple of times I've had witnesses (husband and a friend) and this last time I was alone but I took a video. Sometimes my car feels like it has no power or like it's in the first gear struggling to make it past that (it's an automatic but that's the best way I can describe it). Three out of my four doors stick and I have to pull multiple times to get the door opened, even though it's unlocked. I find these issues, while not outright dangerous, can be a hassle especially when I'm in a parking lot trying to reverse into a spot or out of a spot. It's hard for my 8 year old to get in or out of the car cause her door sticks. I feel like when my car is driving sluggish, that I am going to get hit by another car.

UNKNOWN. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction regarding Hyundai Motor America. They have told us our car is subject to catching fire and not to park in in our garage or near other dwellings. We have contacted them numerous times and they keep pushing off a date for repair. Now they say, “maybe June.” Isn’t there a timeline for this? For a car to catch fire, 8 months seems excessive to me. The Consumer Protection Division of the NHTSA has indicated that I should contact you to let you know that I wish to continue this case. The information they gave me is below: Re: Hyundai Motor America****** File No: [XXX] Thank you for your help. The trim on the driver's side rear door flew off while traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour. Luckly no one was behind me. I was able to retrieve the trim piece from the highway and it was determined to have been placed improperly on the car. The trim was not able to be replaced due to damage when it was run over by several vehicles. The warranty says it's covered but the trim has been on back order for a month.

- #11580406April 1, 2024ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I believe that this car is a lemon. Ever since we bought it we have problems with the engine not performing right. I have got the engine system cleaned multiple times one at the dealership and one at Valvoline Oil Change facility. The engine still didn't run smooth. I would always get the oil changed on time and the vehicle has never been in a accident. Now just yesterday the vehicle while driving on the highway just stalled and wouldn't accelerate past 60mph. Now the check engine light is blinking and all of the lights on the dash are on. Also lately sometimes the forward collision lights will come on and other warning lights and sometimes they wont. Another light that intermittently comes on are the auto hold and epb light and this has been happening since we bought the vehicle. I have taken into Hyundai and they basically were like yea sometimes that happens. I have not gotten the new check engine light checked but I am sure that it is something serious because the car won't accelerate past 60mph. I have read on other discussions that there are many problems with Hyundai engines and believe that I am victim to very poor quality manufacturing in this engine. I also have a 2013 Toyota Camry with 180,000 miles and haven't had one problem with it. This car is a lemon and would like to have some help with this please. I have also made a complaint with Hyundai under their drive train warranty.

I am writing to report a serious issue with our 2017 Hyundai Tucson. As the first and only owners of this vehicle, we have diligently maintained it through authorized dealerships. However, in May 2023, while driving on the highway, the car suddenly lost power and would not accelerate beyond 30 mph. There were no warning lights or indications prior to this incident. My wife managed to pull the car to the side of the road and slowly drove it to the dealership. Despite having only 30,000 miles on the odometer from personal use, we were shocked to learn that the engine had suffered significant damage due to low engine oil. Notably, we had recently serviced the vehicle at the same dealership just a few months earlier. The dealership informed us that the engine needed replacement, but the process took nearly a year. During this time, we were left without our vehicle, causing considerable inconvenience and financial hardship due to renting replacement vechile . We find it concerning that an engine failure occurred despite our regular maintenance and adherence to authorized service centers. We kindly request an investigation into this matter and hope that steps can be taken to prevent similar incidents for other Hyundai Tucson owners. Additionally, we urge Hyundai to address this issue promptly and transparently.

The heating system doesn’t work - have yo run at settings well over 80 yo get a modicum of warmth. Each time I took in, they’d give me a loaner and each loaner had same issue. Hyundai corporate claims that’s how it should be. Alerts keep resetting to off when car is turned off. That way since I bought car and never fixed

We purchased a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon in April 2023 with 79 k miles. Realized after a short time that it was consuming too much oil. Started doing some research and found that this has been a problem for many Hyundai/Kia engines. We were checking the oil often and topping it off as needed plus, oil changes at 3000 miles. There were no check engine lights on and no leaks of fluids on the ground, no loss of power. Fast forward to March 2024. Driving down the interstate on a trip the engine just shuts off. Luckily my daughter was able to make it to the shoulder without getting hit by another car. The vehicle would not restart. I started looking for someone to tow the vehicle a State Trooper stopped to assist her and her passengers. Vehicle was towed. Mechanic charged the battery, checked the terminals, tested the alternator, and the belt. All were good. No idea why it just shut off. After charging battery for an hour, she was able to limp the Tuscon to the nearest dealership. The vehicle started losing power going uphill and regained speed on the flat areas on the way to dealership. The Hyundai dealer diagnosed the issue as leaking valve seal, oil soaked ignition coil causing the misfire which then started to plug up catalytic converter and fouling the spark plugs. I told the service person I will be contacting Hyundai and she said that the diagnosis did not qualify for the engine replacement and the estimate to repair was $5600. While we were there we checked into trading in. We paid $16,000 in April 2023 with 79k miles. March of 2024 Kelly Blue Book says it’s worth only $8300 (93k mileage) and they offered $4000 trade. Loan balance is $14,000. This incident could have caused my daughter and her passengers (one was an infant) to get into a horrific accident on the Interstate with traffic driving 70 mph. Now we are dealing with this economic hardship. My research shows many of the engines of various models of Hyundai and Kia’s are failing. No current recalls!

I was driving home from work and heard knocking sound come from engine. No sensors came on to alert me of any problem. I pulled over and checked oil. There was no oil and it was not due for oil change for another 1,000 miles. Oil is always changed between 3-5K miles. Took it to Gettel Hyundai dealership where it was purchased. They are unable to explain what or why this happened. Took claim out with Hyundai as there is only 60K miles. Hyundai and dealership offered no help because warranty had ended. Just told me it needed a new engine for $8K. Hyundai corporate denied claim also citing lack of service. That is not a valid reason and makes no sense. We provided every paper receipt showing diligent oil changes and required mile maintenance. They never bothered to do an engine oil burning test. After researching this online there is a well-known problem with these engines burning oil. There was no oil leaking. Why did NO sensor alert me there was no oil? This seems like a major safety concern. Hyundai is refusing to take responsibility for this problem and needs to address this properly. This car engine should be recalled.
