- #11581965April 9, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
My vehicle will no longer start and after inspection from a mechanic, it was determined that the fuel pump was the cause. There was no indication of any issue besides not starting. I am now being told by my local dealership that they will not have replacement parts until the fall and they are unable to provide a loaner during this time, leaving me without a vehicle for an unknown amount of time.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Steering system, it is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While driving at highway speeds, the steering is sticking and requires effort/driver input to keep the car straight. While making correction, the steering seems to take additional force to get it to respond. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No

Steering wheel has some resistance when trying to correct while driving. Steering is 'sticky,' making it difficult to make minor adjustments while driving. Each time any move is made with the steering wheel, it is like it has to 'break free' from being stuck. This happens almost all the time over 40-45 mph, regardless of the driving mode. My concerns were confirmed by a mechanic shop in my area who acknowledged the steering issues and also other family members. During the last time making periodic revision on my Civic I mentioned that and no action had been taken by Honda dealer. As more miles I drive the issue grava-te, making har to keep the vehicle in the lane as above described.

CVT Fill Plug Pops Out or Leaks. My car is 2015 Honda Civic. There is already a recall for Honda Civic 2016-18. I saw this issue yesterday April 6, 2024 and reported to Honda Dealership (Norm Reeves Honda, Fort Worth, Texas). Honda dealer mentioned this is a known problem. There were no warning lamps or symptoms.

The paint began flaking off in dime size chunks after a car wash. primarily around the back windshield but also around the gas door cover. I brought it to a body shop to be checked on. They said this was a common thing they see in civics from 2017, and it is a manufacturing defect.

While driving the steering is “sticking” and feels like there is tension while driving on a straight road and trying to keep the the vehicle straight. The tension in the steering wheel is overcome while trying to keep it straight causing the vehicle to jerk in that direction. You must react in the opposite direction to avoid collision which causes it to jerk in the other direction. It happens at all speeds and most noticeably at 40+ mph making it very concerning to drive and difficult to control the vehicle. My concern is that the vehicle will lose control completely at some point due to this issue.

The steering often feels "sticky". The effect is most noticeable at highway speeds, where I need to make lots of small corrections to the steering, but I can also notice it on back roads. When I try to turn the steering wheel by a small amount, it won't turn, so I need to apply additional force to overcome the stiction. Once I apply enough force for the wheel to "break free," I end up overcorrecting, and I need to turn the steering wheel back in the other direction, at which point I encounter the same problem. This issue makes it difficult to maintain my lane while driving. This problem has not been confirmed by a dealer. I took the car to a dealership due to a recall on the power steering system, but they told me my vehicle was not affected and they didn't replace anything. I made another appointment to look into this issue and asked that a technician be available to I could demonstrate the problem. When I arrived, no one was available to look at the vehicle, and the service advisor told me I had to pay $175 before they would try to diagnose the problem, despite the fact that the vehicle is still under warranty. I haven't had the vehicle inspected by police or insurance representatives. However, I am happy to make it available for that purpose. There were no warning lights/messages that indicated a problem with the steering system.

I recently brought in my car to Rousch Honda. They told me that my vehicle needs a new EPS rack costing $5000. My car has 95151 miles on it. After driving for about a half hour on the highway, I get a sticking steering wheel. I can move it but it takes slightly more effort to keep it straight. When it happens it occurs intermittently. Sometimes it happens often. Other times it doesn't happen at all. I think there should be a recall so that it doesn't cause an accident where people over correct and lose control.

Brakes failed on vehicle almost causing me to collide with vehicle in front of me. Brakes Plus in Tempe checked Brakes and found them to be good. All the lights on the dash flash when attempting to start the vehicle. Vehicle will not start sometimes. The vehicle also leaves the lane when going over potholes and bumps on the road and handles badly.

Steering wheel “sticks” when making long sweeping left turns at any speed or when making small steering corrections at highway speeds. Steering wheel requires an extra amount of effort to move causing over corrections. At highway speeds it results in the appearance of erratic driving. The “stickyness” increases with heat, generated by both increased running time and higher ambient air temperatures. My vehicle has 86k miles, the issue has gotten progressively worse since around the 45k mile mark. Seems very similar to the issue that has resulted in a recall for the 2022-23 civics. The quality of Honda vehicles seems to be in a downward spiral. This issue is a major safety concern.

Steering has been an issue with this car from the start, when driving at highway speeds the car never drives straight. No matter how straight I keep my steering wheel, the car will still start to drift without correction- which is usually not an issue, but the civics steering has little to no resistance (firmness) so it turns very easily, thus making it nearly impossible to avoid overcorrecting. The sensitivity adds a huge fear factor for me as well considering how hard it is to control this car to begin with, if you dont manage to over steer yourself, the extremely high sensitivity settings of the steering wheel will almost guarantee an over correction... which is nonstop (and a huge distraction!!) until you arent moving. I couldn't imagine it would be easy trying to regain control under these conditions if God forbid I end up losing it.

- #11581397April 5, 2024AIR BAGS, STEERING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
This was a single car incident (no other cars involved). The car was going on the 270 degree curved onramp to enter the highway. Lane Keep assist (LKAS) came on at or near the end of the onramp which caused the vehicle to head from the inside part of the lane/curve towards the left side of the onramp lane/curve and toward the left side retaining wall. Driver attempted to course correct but steering was not responsive in time and the car hit the left side wall completely disabling steering. The car came off the left wall and went across the onramp lane and struck the right side retaining wall before coming to a stop. Airbags did not deploy. Seatbelt may not have locked/tightened at impact with the wall either. LKAS initiated the move into the wall, the steering was stuck/non-responsive or perhaps slow to take driver input. Multiple previous reports to the dealer about steering being problematic were each unable to confirm a problem and this vehicle was not considered part of the existing potentially related recall. The LKAS is believed to have engaged with flashing warning just before crash. After the crash, the driver seatbelt "red X" shows on display, a LKAS error shows on display, and a supplemental restraint system error shows on the display.

- #11581217April 4, 2024FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP:CONTROL/DRIVE MODULE
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 MPH, the vehicle stalled, and no warning lights were illuminated. The following day the contact stated that the brake lights were flashing, and the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was jumpstarted, and several warning lights illuminated. In addition, while the contact was driving at unknown speeds the steering wheel jerked to the right and the contact had to maneuver the steering wheel with excessive strength. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the contact was informed that the failure was not associated with the recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a faulty VSA modulator, and it was replaced. The contact stated that after the repair there was a decrease in vehicle performance, a high-pitched sound near the gas tank, and the engine shook violently when the accelerator pedal was depressed, especially while driving at approximately 60 MPH or more. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated forward when the brake pedal was depressed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that a particular diagnostic code was not shown for the parts to be ordered. The failure mileage was approximately 51,990.

We bought the car new and it currently has 22,000 miles on it. Throughout its lifetime, the steering has been "sticky" in that the driver is unable to keep a straight line or turn without the steering temporarily binding. This requires more force to be applied to the steering wheel and causes an overcorrection. It is unnerving and dangerous to the driver and to other cars. The local Honda dealer has been unhelpful in diagnosing or even admitting the problem. No warning lights indicate a problem.10

unknown.. Steering feels sticky while at highway speeds. Normal Speeds feel fine but once you’re up to 55-70 Mph you have to force the steering wheel back to center after making a slight turn on the highway (lane assist is off).

2022 Civic Sport with 28k miles but problem started just around 18k. While driving the steering wheel sticks and extra force is needed to change directions. When driving straight and it gets sticky i have to turn to the 11 or 1 position to get it unstuck constantly. Its worse on hard curves, correcting the wheel is very dangerous and i have been scared a few times im going to overcorrect and hit the rail. Dealership cleared me of the steering rack recall and when i asked "why is my wheel getting stuck then" the response was " you're lowered and have oversized wheels that could be it". My springs only drop 1.4" and wheels are 18x8.5 +30 offset so they do poke out a bit but this problem started about 2 months before my new wheels were put on.

The transmission abruptly failed while traveling down the interstate. With zero prior indications of an issue, drive train power was lost abruptly on all four tires. I was able to safely pull off to the shoulder with my hazards on and come to a stop. Two mechanics confirmed no other issues in the vehicle other than the transmission breaking for no known reason. They presume it is software related and do not recommend I replace the transmission. Therefore the car is totaled even though it is in perfect condition other than the transmission failure.

Sudden loss of acceleration. CVT Transmission failure. Vehicle has been single owner and properly maintained, only 72K miles on it. There have been no issues with the transmission up to this incident. Pulling out of a parking lot the car revved and seemed like it wasn't going into gear. Car came to a complete stop in the middle of the road and could not move in any gear. We had it towed to the garage and they confirmed that the transmission oil was completely burnt and that the transmission needed replaced, which they agreed was completely premature.
