While driving at a low speed power steering failed. This happened on two separate occasions once while turning into a parking lot the other while doing a u turn. On both occasions I was almost in a crash. The other vehicle had a slam on brakes to avoid my truck. The message on the dashboard was “service power steering drive with care”. The steering wheel is yanked out of my hands each time it loses power. After the ignition is turned off for five minutes the issue is resolved upon restarting the vehicle.

2019 5.3L V8 engine. DFM lifter failed while towing travel trailer on interstate. Lifter ended up seizing in pushrod and shearing camshaft lobe. This put my family at risk while being parked on shoulder of the interstate. Research and talking to others has shown that this is a common occurrence with these 5.3L V8 engines. Having to replace the engine with no reimbursement from GM

What failed: The automatic transmission on my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom 4WD, 2.7L turbo (VIN [XXX]). It has an intermittent shudder, a stuttering vibration felt through the truck, under light throttle and under load. The truck is in my possession and available for inspection on request. Safety risk: The shudder happens during acceleration and under load, when smooth power delivery matters most, such as merging or climbing grades. I tow a 20-foot camper in the summer, which puts the transmission under heavy load, and a driveline problem while towing raises the risk. No crash or injury has occurred. Confirmed by a dealer: Yes. On XXX, at 44,934 miles, Serra Chevrolet in [XXX] confirmed the transmission concern under GM service bulletin 20-NA-142, which the dealer confirmed applies to my VIN (repair order XXX). The technician performed a transmission fluid exchange as the recommended repair. I will update this report if the shudder returns. The technician confirmed the contaminated fluid from the factory. Manufacturer or others: The dealer submitted a goodwill request to GM, which GM declined, so I paid for the diagnosis and repair myself. No police or insurance inspection, since there was no incident. Warning lamps and symptoms: No transmission warning lamps or messages appeared. The only symptom was the shudder itself, which first appeared around XXX. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have a 2022 Chevrolet Z71 with a 6.2 l L87 engine. The motor blew up for what the recall is for from chevrolet. The crank and all that stuff seized up while my step son was driving it was told to burn Chevalier of rock. Hill, where they said, yep, this is the exact recall problem that we've been having with all these trucks. And the truck still isn't running, right? It's still knocking and making weird sounds and losing power after getting a new motor

Vehicle: 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Component: Powertrain – Automatic Transmission (8L90) Manufacturer: General Motors (Chevrolet) I am submitting this complaint regarding recurring transmission problems with my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with the GM 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. I am concerned about the vehicle's inconsistent shifting behavior, the repeated failure to resolve these issues through service, and the potential safety implications of unpredictable transmission performance. My truck has been taken into the shop multiple times because of transmission-related concerns, including hard shifting, intermittent and inconsistent shifting, and transmission shudder. Despite these repeated service visits, the problems have continued. During one of the repair visits, the transmission wiring harness was replaced. However, the shifting concerns persisted. I was subsequently told by the service personnel that the hard shifting and intermittent shifting were “just how the transmissions on these are.” I do not consider this an acceptable resolution to a recurring mechanical and drivability concern. I was also informed that GM introduced updated transmission fluid intended to help address the transmission shudder, but that I would have to pay for the fluid service myself. I have been left facing additional expenses for the revised fluid, a potential torque converter replacement, and other transmission upgrades despite the repeated repair attempts and the continued existence of these problems. My primary concern is the transmission's inconsistent operation and the possibility that unexpected or severe shifting behavior could affect the driver's ability to control the vehicle safely in certain driving situations. Depending on the circumstances, unpredictable shifting, hesitation, or abrupt engagement could create a hazardous situation when accelerating, merging into traffic, navigating intersections, or driving in congested condition

While driving, the vehicle shifted itself into Park without any driver input and the engine shut off. This has occurred on three occasions, first on May 24, 2026 at approximately 1,000 miles — three days after the vehicle was purchased new. It happened again at approximately 2,300 miles, and a third time at approximately 10,350 miles. Each occurrence happened at less than 10 mph — once while accelerating and twice while decelerating. No crash, fire, or injuries resulted. The vehicle was presented to an authorized Chevrolet dealer for this same defect on two occasions. On the first visit the dealer found no trouble code, could not duplicate the condition, and performed no repair. On the second visit, beginning September 22, 2026, no repair was performed and the vehicle remained out of service in the dealer's custody — 16 working days on that visit alone, 20 cumulative working days across both visits, as of October 13, 2026. A loaner vehicle was provided during both visits. The manufacturer has an open customer assistance case for this defect. The vehicle is not being driven in this condition; if it must be moved, it is moved by tow only. A vehicle that immobilizes itself in motion is a safety hazard to its occupants and to surrounding traffic.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle struck a deer, but the air bags failed to deploy. The air bag warning light illuminated after the vehicle was restarted. A police report was filed. The vehicle was driven away from the crash site. The vehicle was taken to an auto collision center, which was unable to determine the cause of the air bags failure. The vehicle was then taken to an unknown dealer, who cleared the DTC. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

I have a 2022 Chevy 2500HD diesel with 28,500 miles on it that recently went in for inspection. It FAILED the inspection due to the rear brake pads and rotors. These components are so bad that the rotors failed at less than 30k miles on them. Anything that has to do with a brake system puts everyone on the road at risk. The problem was repaired by the dealership at an astronomical price and other issues. No warning lamps or anything, in fact the brake pad wear sensor still read almost 40%.

GM Corporate Legal has formally denied a repair for a known design flaw (TSB 18-NA-383) that has caused progressive structural corrosion and water intrusion underneath the cab carpets near vehicle electrical routing since 2024. The certified GM technician explicitly identified GM Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-383 as the governing bulletin for this exact issue. The technician’s diagnostic notes state word-for-word: "...i inspected the truck and the rear window is leaking i can see water stains on the window and the head liner has a big water stain. the floor is not rotted out but the rear of the rockers and the cab corners are rotting and bubbling under the paint." This proves the structural rot is being caused from the inside out by a factory defect, not environmental road salt. I have a duplicate large packet that I sent including +15 dated photos to GM corporate/legal back in August.

I am reporting an engine failure on my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine, following completion of NHTSA Safety Recall 25V-274 (GM N252494000). The recall was performed when my vehicle already had over 150,000 miles. At that time, GM performed the oil-and-cap remedy rather than replacing the engine. Approximately 9,000 miles after the recall repair, at approximately 193,000 miles, the engine began making knocking noises and subsequently required replacement. There was no low-oil warning that we observed before the failure ( both in the vehicle nor on the app) and we were not aware of any oil leaks. The vehicle had also been serviced by our local mechanic approximately 3,000 miles before the failure, at which time the mechanic advised that an oil change was not necessary. I am concerned that this failure may be related to the connecting-rod or crankshaft defects identified in the original GM recall and that the recall remedy may not have adequately corrected the problem. I am requesting that NHTSA review this complaint as a possible engine failure following completion of Recall 25V-274 and consider it in its investigation of post-recall engine failures. This vehicle is currently at a dealership waiting for an engine replacement. In speaking with the service manager at this dealership, he agreed that this was related to the recall and actually said to me that he felt that by replacing the oil with the heavier oil (as recommended by the recall), is probably the what caused the engine failure.

- #11770545October 12, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, STEERING, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
While driving approximately 30–40 mph through an uphill left-hand curve, the steering suddenly became extremely stiff and very difficult to turn. I do not recall seeing any warning before I noticed the steering becoming stiff. While trying to control the vehicle, I noticed “Service Power Steering” and “Service ESC” warnings approximately 1–2 seconds later. I cannot say exactly when the warnings first appeared because everything happened very quickly and I was focused on trying to control the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway onto an adjacent lawn and traveled along a steep hillside beside the road. The driver-side mirror struck a curve sign and broke before the vehicle returned to the roadway. The vehicle also bounced while traveling off the road, and there is additional visible body damage. I do not yet know whether there is hidden steering, suspension, underbody, or other damage. A passenger was in the vehicle and witnessed the incident. Shortly afterward, while taking the passenger home, the steering again became extremely stiff and I again noticed the Service Power Steering and Service ESC warnings. Because the steering problem occurred twice, I parked the vehicle and have not driven it since because I do not believe it is safe to operate. The vehicle has not yet been professionally diagnosed or repaired and remains available for inspection. I have opened a case with the manufacturer. There were no known steering problems before this incident. The vehicle had an alignment performed earlier the same day

My 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8 has exhibited abnormal engine behavior since shortly after purchase, well before GM announced the engine recall. Symptoms include extremely loud intermittent metallic lifter/valvetrain noise during cold starts, persistent rough idle, and noticeable engine vibration that causes the truck to rock back and forth after warming up. Paradise Chevrolet and Bunnin Chevrolet subsequently performed GM's prescribed PicoScope inspections, and both reported passing results. The oil-viscosity recall remedy was also completed, but the symptoms remain unresolved at 47,133 miles. I am concerned about potential internal engine damage and the possibility of sudden engine failure or loss of propulsion. Given NHTSA's investigation into L87 engine failures following recall repairs, I am requesting further investigation into the adequacy of GM's recall remedy.

- #11770577October 12, 2026ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
On my way home to [XXX] from [XXX] around XXX, my 2021 Chevy Silverado with 84,xxx miles with the 6.2 L engine started to make a popping sound. I checked my dash for any error codes and there were none. The oil pressure, temp, and transmission temp gauges all read normal. I stopped and topped the gas tank off with premium gas and checked the oil level, which was good. I was able to limp the truck back to my house. The next morning when I started it, there were error codes and the engine was still making the popping noise as well as a louder knocking noise. I started researching the symptoms, called two local independent shops and concluded the DFM system that shuts cylinders off to conserve gas has failed and caused the lifters to fail. I was told the failed lifter could and probably did damage the cam shaft(s). If I kept driving it, the camshaft damage could cause complete engine failure and more safety consequences. One shop quoted $5000 to replace lifters and $8000 if the camshafts were damaged. The other shop was similar, but offered a rebuilt engine for $12,000 because the lifters, camshafts, and new GM crate engine were all back ordered with no ETA from the local Chevy dealership. After weighing my options, and needing a truck, I decided to trade in my damaged truck. I contacted the GM concierge on XXX and was told to call back when the dealership had my damaged truck and could diagnose it. On XXX I called them back and they said they wouldn’t help because I traded it in. I had no plans to trade it before the engine failed and took a substantial hit on the trade in price that GM should have helped with to cover their faulty DFM system that caused the lifters to fail, which the dealership confirmed was the problem. They said they wouldn’t know if the camshafts were damaged until they took it apart, which they decided to not do and send it to auction instead. Vehicle has died multiple times, seems to always be 10mph or less so far, stopping or just taking off, the time taking off it felt like I hit something and it died, I had not hit anything, the other times were slowing down and it just dies and seems to shift possibly and dies I have to put in park and start, not a good scenario on a hill with cars behind you. Took to the car dealership in Conway (Superior Chevrolet). They had it for a few minutes came out and told me they knew of an issue as they had 3 others in for same thing but don’t know what’s causing it. Nothing documented, sent me on my way and didn’t seem to care much. I asked if they found out anything if they would call he stated I needed to check back in with them for updates.

Intermittent complete loss of all audio output on a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD (VIN [XXX], purchased new XXX). When the fault occurs, the vehicle produces no sound of any kind for the entire drive cycle. This includes the audible turn signal confirmation, the seat belt reminder chime, door and key chimes, and the audible alerts for the driver assistance systems (forward collision alert, lane departure, blind spot, park assist). All audible warning capability in the vehicle is lost simultaneously. The failure is intermittent and occurs without warning. It has recurred on multiple dates, most recently XXX during normal highway driving. The dealer performed a global reset per GM's instructions; audio returned, then the fault recurred approximately two weeks later. The reset provides temporary masking, not a repair. This is a known, unresolved GM defect. GM bulletin PIT6406 has covered this condition since XXX replacing two earlier bulletins on the same symptom, and has been revised approximately nine times through XXX. It remains classified as "Preliminary Information" rather than a finalized TSB. GM's own text states engineering is still investigating and instructs that the customer continue driving the vehicle in the interim. The bulletin covers 2022-2026 Silverado and Sierra 1500/2500/3500, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon. GM has previously treated this same failure mode as a safety defect. NHTSA recall 16V084 and 16V422. Safety consequence: this is a heavy-duty truck used regularly for towing. When the fault is active, the driver receives no audible indication that a turn signal has been left on, no audible collision or lane departure warning, and no seat belt reminder. The vehicle gives the driver no indication the audio system has failed until a warning is needed and does not sound. Operators have no way to know their audible warning systems are inoperative at any given moment. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was driving the vehicle at around 50MPH after leaving a set of traffic lights when the engine lost all power and a series of warning lights came on. I pulled over safely to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to a local vehicle mechanic shop. On investigation the engine had seized and a number of internal components had failed. The engine/vehicle I have owned since new and had approximately 103000 miles on it at the time of the incident.
